I did a thesis on male circumcision- comparing it to FGM. It is of course practiced in the USA and among other western nations. But this is also an unecessary surgery rarely challenged in the USA, and with notable prejudice regarding those who do not do it. If you look at circ history, it is only a twentieth-c. practice (among American Christians that is), started for reasons largely related to concern over sexual promiscuity among men. FGM is a bigger fish, but the male circ case exists.

I did a thesis on male circumcision- comparing it to FGM. It is of course practiced in the USA and among other western nations. But this is also an unecessary surgery rarely challenged in the USA, and with notable prejudice regarding those who do not do it. If you look at circ history, it is only a twentieth-c. practice (among American Christians that is), started for reasons largely related to concern over sexual promiscuity among men. FGM is a bigger fish, but the male circ case exists.

I really appreciate your attempt to understand. But since the 1970s, it's been widely understood among pediatricians that neonatal circumcision offers NO significant health benefits. None. Every supposed "benefit" that you can come up with (reduced risk of UTIs or STDs) can be addressed with proper hygiene. If I said that we should cut off a woman's labia (not clitoris) because it would reduce the risk of a UTI by .005% or because it was "cleaner," you'd say that's crazy. This is no different.

Look, I'm not saying that male circumcision is in itself something that isn't bad. I mean yes, men lose foreskin, as well as some sexual sensitivity. But compared to female circumcision, the loss, which at minimum, includes a girl losing her clitoris, her symbol as a female, as well as ALL SEXUAL FEELING, it isn't as extreme or costly. It doesn't benefit the woman at all, where for men, it makes the "dick cleaner" and is a safeguard for certain diseases. In comparison, hands down, FGM is worse.

You're (understandably) appalled by FGM, but you'll probably have your own son mutilated, because you mistakenly believe it "makes his dick cleaner." How does that opinion differ from the Somali's who are convinced that FGM prepares women for marriage? Seriously, before you open your mouth again, get informed.

well since i am so ignorant please explain to me the problems that male circumcision give because last time i checked it doesnt stop a man from cuming and peeing which are the only things a penis can do but what do i know it's true i dont own a dick one thing is sure i'm never going to have sex with a guy who is not circumsized period

WOW. So if a great guy and you were talking, and hit it off, and you dated for a while, and then found out he was uncut, you'd not have sex with him? I agree, FGM is worse because it messes up the function of the area. Whereas male circumcision does not impair that, true. That still does not make it right. Just cause one is a worse procedure does not make the other one just fine by default.

By the way, my last comment was directed at "UnseenBelief" only. I condemn FGM entirely, and I think most people here would agree that male circumcision is just another form of genital mutilation.

I find it funny how some people will attend a FGM protest one day, and then take their sons to a circumcision clinic the next. Gender doesnt matter, Genital mutilation is genital mutilation.

There is NO corolation between male circumcision and female mutiliation (even though they deem it female circumcision).
The difference being 1) Male Circumcision is actually beneficial to males. For example, enhancing their resistance to certain infections 2) Males can still recieve pleasure while having sex. These women have NO feeling whatsoever.
So no, there is a difference between a male circumcision, and a female "circumcision".
Don't EVER compare the two.

It is not AS bad, but that doesn't make it acceptable. Did you know 24,000 of the 20,000 nerve endings in the penis are located in the foreskin? I'm not making this up, a quick look on google will show you that. Yes, men can still acheive sexual pleasure without a foreskin, but they have still been maimed.
Its great that you care about female genital mutilation, but please don't turn a blind eye to the other gender.

I remember hearing or reading somewhere that the clitoris contains 6000 nerve endings, while the foreskin contains over 22,000...not sure how true that is since i cant recall the source, but either way genital mutilation of both kinds MUST END!

No it is not. Their so-called "President" extended his term by a year. Last month the regime tried to complete a voter registration in the eastern regions and the western. It was not successful but the regime and its media claims so.
