@meade916 No worries. I'll put some subs to work in there eventually, but there's a LOT of prepping to be done first. Got to take care of that factory radio in the dash, that stock battery and wiring under the hood, all those flimsy door & roof panels... Fun times!
I can't tell you how excited I am about the how to videos ... I'm starting from scratch myself ... I have my enclosure plans it should be done by the end of the week . I will keep pace with your vids with my install if i can ... MORE MORE MORE !!!!
@trainwreck60 Well, I'm actually glad to see this update generate so much excitement. All the more reason for me to make headway. There are a few aesthetic and mechanical issues that I need to address before I get started with the audio stuff, but there are definitely plenty of potentially informative (and hopefully entertaining) videos on the way.
I've always followed you and Jessica over the years, what ever happened to the vehicross? Last I seen it got shipped away.. Did the new engine cost too much? Looking forward to the new vids and I think you should show off by putting together something that rattles teeth fillings on a budget that most can afford..whatever you do I am sure it will be great!!
@freespeachrulez The VehiCross (as well as the setup in it) was just too unconventional for most people to be able to relate to it. The vehicle, in and of itself, just got to be too much of a bother so I got rid of it.
@jeanious2009 That's not really a question that I can answer. Depending on the application, available internal loading volume, and the mounting surface, a 12" sub may work someplace where a 15" sub simply will not. Other places, a 15" sub might be more adequate. As for the original Stroker, aside from it's dual concentric spider design, there's really nothing particularly special about it. It's actually better suited as a PA driver than a modern car audio sub.
@HexiBase I wish I had your help building a box but I think i will be able to manage. I just bought some new tools. I will send you the link when Im done.
@annarbor84 Well... Maybe "how to" isn't the best way to describe some of the upcoming videos. A "how to" video shows you how something ought to be done. I tend to do things my own way, which at times is difficult to endorse, let alone recommend for others to do. For instance, you would DEFINITELY not want to see me with a router.
@HexiBase ..... well, we did see your router with that friggin 2.5" radius bit. I'd love to see exactly how that went down, but I doubt your camera would like it very much.
I'm quite curious how the hell you do wood bending, though... one of your boxed from your site you did and I'm genuinely curious. Besides, as long as you put a disclaimer in front, death-defying router usage is good for views!
Awesome! I cant wait to see the process that you share compared to the "Professionals" that post videos for "Cookie Cutter" sound systems. Almost as exciting as boobs. \ ,,, /
@knoccoutP187 Me too. Hopefully the upcoming rain season will cool things down enough to where I'm comfortable working out there for several hours at a time, and filming everything as I go.
@Ziggetyzag26 Yeah, ever since the old VehiCross hair trick videos, I've been concentrating on the science behind the install. Now it's time for some more "proof of concept" material.
i'm likely wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was a VW golf.... just looking at how much room you have and the shape of the headliner.. it reminds me of the golf my friend has.
definitely looking forward to videos.. your content is always entertaining and informational. keep it coming pete.
@HexiBase i saw a few comments below that you mentioned this build would be an example of what can be done with an ordinary compact SUV.... i can only think of a few with square roofs like that, and i'm quite excited about all the options i can think of.... and, ya know.. more videos from you in general.
when i bought my '87 cutlass from an old lady the first thing i did was putting an AQ sub in it. The subwoofer was making the steering wheel move up and down.
@MrBigbassify You mean the black VehiCross. Nah. Too high maintenance and not enough people were able to relate to that particular body style. The aim for this new setup is to constitute more of a general reference as to what can be done with an ordinary compact SUV.
@HexiBase oh my bad, I got the DDZ9518`s. They`re BADASS subs! Wish I could get an PWK design box to get the most out of the subs, but you`re hard to reach these days.
@HexiBase oh my bad, I got the DDZ9518`s. They`re BADASS subs! Wish I could get an PWK design box to get the most out of the subs, but you`re hard to reach these days.
@berniebp87 If you've filled out the project assessment form on the PWK Designs web site, I should have answered it within a matter of days (unless you've miss-spelled your e-mail address.) Give it another try.
@HexiBase Allright! I`ll get back to you on that in a couple of weeks, gonna switch car now so have to wait until I know what kind of vehicle I end up with, Thank you very much for the reply.
DDZ !?! Very very nice :) Ive been wanting more car audio videos from you . I am about to blow up my car (having trouble cutting wood for the wall). Im subbed, so tuned in to you're newest videos !
I can't wait to see this build man, and nice big butt ;) hah I'd like you to make some "How To"s so I can show them to locals that have no idea how to even wire an amp. O.O More Woofer Vids! :)
@racerboi3x I was 17 self taught knowing how to wire a amplifier. There is pleanty of how to's out there and information. He is beyond that stage and why go back to the 1st steps when he is on the 1000th step teaching brand new ways to make your system sound cleaner and louder. Very nice sub btw
@twiztid83222 I self taught myself at 12, I've been working with car audio ever scence I was 10, I'm 16 and know alot more than most local shops, and people don't watch what I teach and Pete will explain things much better. Its pretty sad when a 16 year old teaches 30+ year old shop workers what to do.
@racerboi3x Oh yeah... I've seen some installs that looked downright hazardous. I'll see about devoting a segment in one of the upcoming videos to talk about electrical safety, proper grounds, and suchlike... Especially since the amplifier powering this new setup is going to be rather hefty.
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY I LOVE YOUR WOOFER VIDS, oh i have a problem with my jbl 12. its 1200 watts and im olny giveing it 150 rms but i smell the coil, i can under stand that i smell the coil overpowering it but its 300 watts and doing harm to my woofer. what can i be doing wrong.
@realgangsta14 if your listing to tones or bass songs that are non stop movement for the woofer it can cause it to heat up and make your coil/glue smell. You also could have the gain up way too high causing extra heat. Try tuning by osc/dmm/ear
You also shouldnt have the bass dials up all the way on your deck. Just going to likely cause more distortion.
@twiztid83222 well the type of song im listen to mosty are the lowwwwwwww note songs like the dream luv for girl chopped and scrwed lots of oj da juice man and guccimane. i have a seriors low note addiction. my gain is all the way up so i am doing wrong. but am i really damageing my sub.
@realgangsta14 Your just getting too much heat to the coil and parts that it cannot cool down with those type of songs. If you like lows I would deff upgrade in your subs and try a different amp. Try craigslist to sell your system. Your box could also be too large and port tuned too low, that its basicly like free airing it and it will not handle well at all.
@realgangsta14 Well, you know the old saying: It's not the power that kills your speakers; it's distortion. There's a bit of truth to it, especially if you're sending straight DC signal to your coils for several hundred milliseconds at a time.
arent the new btl's motors like that?

Hey hexibase, whats your favorite subwoofer (12" or 15")?? What do you think about the Cerwin Stroker 12's and 15's (1st gen)?
