Great review. I was just wondering though, what were those carry loads you were using? Were they Federals (Hydra-Shok's or HST's)? I'm heard you say that "we feed it a steady diet of high-pressure ammo" @4:21, but I was wondering how heavy are the bullets that you use on the job? 115, 124, 147gr? Also, which police department do you work for? I don't want to sound racist or "regionist" or anything of that sort, but from your accent it sounds like your from Boston or maybe New York.
Renegade 410, what do you prefer between the SIG and the Glock models. Do you see any benefits or defaults between the two weapons? I'm well-aware that most officers either carry a SIG or a Glock. Of course, it's a matter of personal preference. I respect both brands, but which do you like best, sir?
@Mike8901000 I prefer Sig to Glock. I like the way they feel. I have shot both extensively and just prefer how the Sig handles. It fits my hand better and it just "feels" good to me.
In your opinion if your department gave you a choice what you prefer a larger Caliber 40 S&W or 45 ACP? I watch a sad video of an officer killed in the line of duty by a VIETNAM combat Vet although the attacker was hit center mass. God bless you and take care.
@philly4458 Yes, if I had a choice I would carry a larger caliber as my primary sidearm on duty. My choice would be a high capacity 1911 in .45 ACP. The 9mm is not bad as a backup, or for off duty carry if you want to go a little light, but as a service caliber I do not like it.
@Mike8901000 I don't know what you are looking to find out. Being a police officer is one of those jobs that you either really want to do or you don't. My best advice would be to be sure it is something that you really want to do. If you have any hesitiation about it then you really need to consider if you want to make a career in law enforcement.
@maxshp76 If you are asking about a firing pin block, that is either something that's in the firearm or its not. Older fireams usually don't have them and I own a few firearms that don't. Basic safety and a good holster will solve any issues with worries about "accidental discharges". In my opinion there is no such thing as an "accidental discharge" if the firearm discharges and you didn't mean for it to, there is some level of neglegance that has occurred.
@railroadtrash09 I don't plan to change the way I make my videos. Safety is very important, and I will continue to exercise & display safe firearms handeling in my videos. If you don't like that, then all I can say is don't watch my videos.
Hi. Very nice review! Question: I know this gun is made of metal, however description sais it has polymer grips. I'm new to the guns. But does it mean that the only panels on the handle are polymer or is it an entire handle?
Hi. Very nice review! Question: I know this gun is made of metal, however description sais it has polymer grips. I'm new to the guns. But does it mean that the only panels on the handle are polymer or is it an entire handle?
@AsscracksOfdawn All the calibers are good. I wouldn't reccomend one over the other. You would need to choose what fits your needs and abilities. I don't have any experience with the CZ 75 so I really can't comment on it.
@fallout3geek I would say that the P226 is comparable to a Glock 17. Same caliber, and about the same size. The Glock may be slightly lighter. Sig now has flush fit 18 round mags for the P226 and 20 round extended mags, so the capacity is also comparable. I just prefer the Sig. I do not like how Glocks feel and I have had issues with them in the past. I have not shot a P220.
@DAB0690 I was able to choose the Sig or a Glock. No, "most" do not. About 1/3 either issue or authorize Glock, the same is true for Sig, and about the same number allow their officers to choose any sidearm.
Woops, should have watched the vid before asking. I prefer da/sa so when I get a Sig p226 that's definitely what I will get it in. Cheers Renegade and great videos!
@EliteBushido I don't know what it would cost. You would have to contact your local police department, I'm sure they will have answers to any questions you may have about the costs associated with pistol liscenses in your area.
@FlyingPancreas Thank you. There wasn't any significant learning curve for me. Its not my prefered trigger system, but its very easy to use. I was immediately able to use this firearm, but I have also had experience with many different types of handguns before I was issued this firearm.
@Jazz20th I don't currently own a H&K, but I have shot them. I like both. They are both excellent designs. They differ in size. shape and weight, so you may want to handle a Sig before making a descision. I would be comfortable carrying either weapon.
@swissfa18 I don't know where you heard that. The finish on my P226 is very durable. I have had it get banged up and the finish is still perfect. I have no corrosion issues with the finish either, I have never had a speck of rust form on my P226.
@renegade410 not at all, I actually didnt watch your first video(the first video you posted) until after and didn't realize you didnt want to divulge the information. I totally understand though brother.
Are you still using the 15 round mags for duty use or are you able/have you used the new factory 18 round versions? I am curious if they are hard to load when filled to capacity.
I forgot to mention, that gun looks incredibly well-maintained if it's the same gun you've shot thousands of times. Is it the same one? I notice you have nickel controls, did your agency order it that way? Take care. :)
I could carry the 20 round magazines, but I don't like them because they do not fit flush in the grip. I can carry as many magazines as I want as long as I have 2 spare mags on my belt. The only thing is that I don't have very much room on my belt with all the other stuff I carry.
very good summary on the Sig. Between nutnfancy and your review I have purchased my first Sig P226 today! I love the feel and look so far, can't wait until i can get to the range. Thanks again for the information....
You can get the 226 with the .22lr conversion kit pre-installed for about 500 bucks. Do that, then buy a 9mm conversion kit for 400ish. Now you have a good plinking gun and a defensive weapon for the price of a 226 in 9mm.
Swedish police use these as well to some extent. Depending on the size of their hands they get either these or the other sigs, 228, 229 and whatever they are called.
The difference is that the DAK is the civilian version of the DAO. The difference is in the weight in the trigger pull. The trigger pull on my Sig P226 is heavier than the DAK trigger. That's the only difference.
It all depends on what you can use as a shooter. If I had my way it would be .45 ACP all the way. If you can use the .40 effectively and are happy with the capacity go for it.
I have the 9mm because its what my agency requires at the moment. Hopefully that will change.
Does it say where it was made, on the slide and frame? The SIG P226 is pretty much the gun I want as my first handgun, after lots of research. Only one that comes close is the HK USP.
I, like a poster before, have heard lots of bad things about quality control of the new SIGs. If that is a New Hampshire SIG though, then I might get a new one.
I don't know if your department allows it, but Mecgar makes very affordable, quality 20 round magazines for the P226 in 9mm. 15 round for 40/357.
My frame is made in Germany and the rest is made in the USA.
I have not heard any problems with any new Sigs. If you call Sig they will be glad to help answer any questions or concerns yoou might have. They were very helpful for me when I had questions about the P239, before I purchased mine.
Great video! The same malfunction happened to me a couple of times but I found out it was my fault. I was keeping the slide release depressed with my grip.
I haven't heard of any issues with the new Sig P226s. The only recent issue was for the P238 and Sig corrected that problem immediately as far as I know.
great review of the sig 226 pistol. it was very informative and help me in choosing which firearm to use for on-duty purposes. ive always been interested in this gun and your video helped alot.
thanks for taking the time to make this. The Beretta 92 is a real hefty handgun, if you've ever used it...are you NYPD? You mentioned the high-cap magazine restriction (no more than 10 cartridges, excluding .22 rimfire). NY still has their state assault weapons ban (mirror of the federal one from 1994 - 2004). thanks again!
I don't mean to be a jerk or anything but your earlier comment said you couldn't find one for 450 but I found one for 470 at a local gun store and it is in near perfect condition
If you found one for that price that's great. My experience is that Sigs hold their value fairly well. I haven't seen any for that price unless they were in less than perfect condition.
The other point with that is it really depends on where you live and shop. Some places the firearms are more desierable and in less supply, so the price goes up.
As I said, I just have not seen it, doesn't mean that they aren't out there.
It all depends on your needs. I have a couple of videos on choosing a firearm. Those might be helpful in determining what type of firearm you may want for recreation or home defense.
I personally am not a fan of Glock. I don't like the way they feel, and I have, in the past, had issues while shooting them.
If you are asking me if I had to choose a Sig or a Glock, I can tell you that I have already made that choice and its Sig all the way. That's just me.
The Sig P226 is not made in 10mm or .45 ACP. As far as I know there are no current Sig models that are chambered in 10mm. The .45 ACP models that Sig makes are the P220 and the 1911.
You may be able to find a used, beat up, old Sig P226 for $450, but I highly doubt that you would be able to find one in nice condition for that price.
It is not missing the decocker. I explained that this is a double action only version, so there is no need for a decocking mechanism in this version of the Sig P226.
The best is really a subjective opinion. There are many very good hollow point rounds on the market. My suggestion would be whatever brand that you shoot the best with. I know its expensive, but I think you should try as many different brands and loads as you can and determine which you shoot the best with.
I don't have a lot of experience with CZ pistols. They seem to be fairly popular among the civilian market as I do see them in just about every gun shop I go to. I don't know of any Law Enforcement Agencies in the US that use them as an issued sidearm. Wish I could help out some more. I will ask around and see if anyone I know owns a CZ and get some feedback. Thanks for watching!
NYPD allows you to choose from 3 guns all have to be 9mm and DAO.The Smith & Wesson was very popular because it's easier to pull the trigger and looked nice. The Sig had a bad reputation for getting rust on the slide and the DAO trigger is very hard to pull and gets bad scores at the range. The Glock NY trigger is over 12 pounds which also causes many shots to be pulled low.The Sig is a great gun but the DAO is really for liability most cops are not shooters & hate guns.
That's interesting. I don't have any rust issues with my Sigs. The trigger pull on mine is long, but its not a big deal to me. I don't have any problems putting rounds on target. I'm a shooter and I definetly do not hate guns. I guess that means that I'm not like most cops, and that's fine with me. Thanks for your comments.
My dept only allows the Glock 19 for duty.I see you have DAO.I would have chosen a 10mm Glock 20 if I were you because the caliber is perfect for Law Enforcement.
My agency only allows the Sig P226 and Glock 19 for service weapons. If I had my choice I would be carrying a high capacity 1911 in .45 ACP. I don't really like Glocks. I have personally had to may problems with them.
Thank you. I did in fact choose this over a Glock. I could have carried either for duty and I chose the Sig. I don't really like the way Glocks feel in my had, so I do not own any.
It took me a while to buy a Sig-Sauer P-229/9mm. But when I did, it was unbelievable. The handgun was flawless in the shooting range. It was so well-made and precise, all empty 9mm shells will land on the same area. The 1st I purchased was a used model for only 600 bucks. The 2nd one was only 450 dollars. This pistols are very accurate. I'm not affiliated with any law Enforecement Dept. This pistols are top-notch and I would recommend them to anyone wanting to buy a good handgun.
I don't know. It all depends on your wants and needs. Take into consideration your ability to handle the recoil of both rounds. Also the 9mm version can take a 15 round flush fit magazine. while the .40 S&W only has 12 rounds int he magazine. I hope this helps.
I'm getting ready to purchase my first firearm and I'm really beating myself up trying to decide between the Walther P99 and the Sig P226 (.40 S&W, regardless). What are your thoughts on the matter?
Both are very well made, reliable weapons. The P99 is lighter with its polymer frame. The Sig is heavier being made of metal. I would suggest at the very least go and get a feel for both guns. See what feels better in your hand. I can tell you that A LOT of law enforcement and military personel use the Sig and I think that is saying a lot about the gun. But take into account all of your needs before you make a descision. Check out my video "What gun is right for me?" for some more help.

I don't know if your department allows it, but Mecgar makes very affordable, quality 20 round magazines for the P226 in 9mm. 15 round for 40/357.
AmyLeesPetWookiee 2 years ago
My frame is made in Germany and the rest is made in the USA.
I have not heard any problems with any new Sigs. If you call Sig they will be glad to help answer any questions or concerns yoou might have. They were very helpful for me when I had questions about the P239, before I purchased mine.

Great video!!! I own a Sig p226 and a p220 and they are great guns.

Great video! The same malfunction happened to me a couple of times but I found out it was my fault. I was keeping the slide release depressed with my grip.

The Sig does seem like a very good pistol. I was debating whether to get a Sig or a CZ.
esh325 2 years ago
Sig does make very good firearms. I don't have any experience with CZ so I can't compare them.
renegade410 2 years ago
I heard they have a lot of QC issues with the new Sig's. 1000$ is a bit expensive for a pistol, considering you can get a steel framed CZ for 500$
esh325 2 years ago
I haven't heard of any issues with the new Sig P226s. The only recent issue was for the P238 and Sig corrected that problem immediately as far as I know.

I don't mean to burst your bubble renegade, but you're probably from either NY or Boston judging by your accent. lol
Good vid by the way.

I see no decocking lever on your sidearm. I'm guessing it's a DAK double action only system?
Czar169 2 years ago
This is a Double Action Only version of the P226.

Nice video, you say you can easily conceal it in a T-Shirt. I was intrigued by how exactly did you do that?
Peter1992t 2 years ago
Thank you.
I have a couple of holsters that make it fairly easy to conceal. My favorite way is with a small of the back holster.
Thank you for watching.
renegade410 2 years ago
Hey Renegade,
Just wondering what kind of holster you use for small of the back with the 226.
I would like to get a leather holster, but I haven't seen one for the 226 in that position yet.
Thanks.
mariolopresto 2 years ago
Check out Galco Gunleather.
Almost all of my holsters are Glaco brand. I think they are great. They make a small of the back holster for the P226.
renegade410 2 years ago
Nice vid, you gave a great overview of the gun.
I also love your NE accent! I'd love to hear you say, "I'm gonna watch boyds up in New Joysey with the boys, who have quarters in their shorts!".

Not a problem, I'll be looking forward to future videos from you.

great review of the sig 226 pistol. it was very informative and help me in choosing which firearm to use for on-duty purposes. ive always been interested in this gun and your video helped alot.

Thank you.
I'm glad that I could helk you in making an informed descision. The Sig P226 is definetly a great choice as a duty weapon.
Thank you for watching.
Stay safe out there!
renegade410 2 years ago
thanks for taking the time to make this. The Beretta 92 is a real hefty handgun, if you've ever used it...are you NYPD? You mentioned the high-cap magazine restriction (no more than 10 cartridges, excluding .22 rimfire). NY still has their state assault weapons ban (mirror of the federal one from 1994 - 2004). thanks again!
generfeld 2 years ago
Thank you for watching.
I'm not going to say where I live or work.
I do not own a Beretta 92, I have shot them in the past. They are very nicely made firearms.
There are still places that restrict mgazine capacities, and certain types of firearms, the State of New York being only one of them.
Thank you for watching and commenting.
renegade410 2 years ago
I don't mean to be a jerk or anything but your earlier comment said you couldn't find one for 450 but I found one for 470 at a local gun store and it is in near perfect condition
Piercebrosnanvagina 2 years ago
If you found one for that price that's great. My experience is that Sigs hold their value fairly well. I haven't seen any for that price unless they were in less than perfect condition.
The other point with that is it really depends on where you live and shop. Some places the firearms are more desierable and in less supply, so the price goes up.
As I said, I just have not seen it, doesn't mean that they aren't out there.
renegade410 2 years ago
Would the P226 be a good choice for a first handgun (for sport shooting and home defense)?
zcm007attack 2 years ago
It all depends on your needs. I have a couple of videos on choosing a firearm. Those might be helpful in determining what type of firearm you may want for recreation or home defense.
renegade410 2 years ago
In terms of reliability and ergonomics, do you think the Glock is superior, worse, or the same as the SIG P226?
kevinrocks2323 2 years ago
I personally am not a fan of Glock. I don't like the way they feel, and I have, in the past, had issues while shooting them.
If you are asking me if I had to choose a Sig or a Glock, I can tell you that I have already made that choice and its Sig all the way. That's just me.
renegade410 2 years ago
Was my choice at least ^^

Is there a 10mm or a 45 ACP version?? and is there any way I could get this for around... lets say $450 ?
agumon12 2 years ago
The short answer is no.
The Sig P226 is not made in 10mm or .45 ACP. As far as I know there are no current Sig models that are chambered in 10mm. The .45 ACP models that Sig makes are the P220 and the 1911.
You may be able to find a used, beat up, old Sig P226 for $450, but I highly doubt that you would be able to find one in nice condition for that price.
renegade410 2 years ago
I just Bought a Sig p226 for $731 in CA. Oh, why is your sig missing a decocker?
narckison1 2 years ago
It is not missing the decocker. I explained that this is a double action only version, so there is no need for a decocking mechanism in this version of the Sig P226.
renegade410 2 years ago
what is the best hollow point .. for sig p226 40 cal.
thetigertony 2 years ago
The best is really a subjective opinion. There are many very good hollow point rounds on the market. My suggestion would be whatever brand that you shoot the best with. I know its expensive, but I think you should try as many different brands and loads as you can and determine which you shoot the best with.
renegade410 2 years ago
Are cz pistols good pistols? Not a whole lot of departments in the states use them but in the czech republic they are a big deal.
alpha9mm 2 years ago
I don't have a lot of experience with CZ pistols. They seem to be fairly popular among the civilian market as I do see them in just about every gun shop I go to. I don't know of any Law Enforcement Agencies in the US that use them as an issued sidearm. Wish I could help out some more. I will ask around and see if anyone I know owns a CZ and get some feedback. Thanks for watching!
renegade410 2 years ago
NYPD allows you to choose from 3 guns all have to be 9mm and DAO.The Smith & Wesson was very popular because it's easier to pull the trigger and looked nice. The Sig had a bad reputation for getting rust on the slide and the DAO trigger is very hard to pull and gets bad scores at the range. The Glock NY trigger is over 12 pounds which also causes many shots to be pulled low.The Sig is a great gun but the DAO is really for liability most cops are not shooters & hate guns.
boostimalaka1 2 years ago
That's interesting. I don't have any rust issues with my Sigs. The trigger pull on mine is long, but its not a big deal to me. I don't have any problems putting rounds on target. I'm a shooter and I definetly do not hate guns. I guess that means that I'm not like most cops, and that's fine with me. Thanks for your comments.
renegade410 2 years ago
My dept only allows the Glock 19 for duty.I see you have DAO.I would have chosen a 10mm Glock 20 if I were you because the caliber is perfect for Law Enforcement.
boostimalaka1 2 years ago
My agency only allows the Sig P226 and Glock 19 for service weapons. If I had my choice I would be carrying a high capacity 1911 in .45 ACP. I don't really like Glocks. I have personally had to may problems with them.
renegade410 2 years ago
Did you choose this over a glock because of the feel? Or is it like the price and spec, too?
oblivionlova23 2 years ago
I prefer the feel. Also I felt that if it is good enough to be used by US Special Sorces then it isa good sidearm to carry for duty use.
renegade410 2 years ago
Good review. Would you chose this over a glock?
oblivionlova23 2 years ago
Thank you. I did in fact choose this over a Glock. I could have carried either for duty and I chose the Sig. I don't really like the way Glocks feel in my had, so I do not own any.
renegade410 2 years ago
Do more people chose this over a glock in your department? Sorry for all the questions.
oblivionlova23 2 years ago
If I had to guess I would say its probably about 50/50. I don't know exactly though.

666wang 2 years ago
should i get 40. or 9mm?
CovertOpsProductions 2 years ago
I don't know. It all depends on your wants and needs. Take into consideration your ability to handle the recoil of both rounds. Also the 9mm version can take a 15 round flush fit magazine. while the .40 S&W only has 12 rounds int he magazine. I hope this helps.

I'm getting ready to purchase my first firearm and I'm really beating myself up trying to decide between the Walther P99 and the Sig P226 (.40 S&W, regardless). What are your thoughts on the matter?
mam04x 2 years ago
Both are very well made, reliable weapons. The P99 is lighter with its polymer frame. The Sig is heavier being made of metal. I would suggest at the very least go and get a feel for both guns. See what feels better in your hand. I can tell you that A LOT of law enforcement and military personel use the Sig and I think that is saying a lot about the gun. But take into account all of your needs before you make a descision. Check out my video "What gun is right for me?" for some more help.
