As you are well aware; kicks intended to strike a foe above the breast plate are really for tourney or Hollywood. In downrange CQB/CQC situations, the more effective blows are to the mid section. Solar plexus, groin & areas about the legs. The point is to incapacitate opposition QUICKLY. This puts them into conditional readiness for a QK.
