I think you can be a huge fan of an artist and still appreciate the talent that goes into a cover. I don't think he takes away from the original at all. I like to see what people can do with something, not to improve on it (because that wasn't necessary) but to put a different spin on it. It just takes an open mind to appreciate different kinds of artistry. And if anyone can arouse the younger generation's interest in MJ (who may not have otherwise been curious about him) then all the better

yeah, they can. Clay Aiken actually wrote his own song and performed it on American Idol before he lost to Ruben (sp?). The music isn't the same as the lyric anyway. This was dubbed as "his" version of Billie Jean. It wasn't. It was Chris Cornell's. He could rewrite the parts to any song to make it different, but he didn't because he can't do that and be any good at it. By the way, it's not his version.

When the judges fawned over him praising him for HIS arrangement, he should have said that it wasn't his arrangement, it was Chris Cornell's. The other people who need to give credit where its due are those who keep acting like David Cook is some musical genius when he's an average rock singer who sang someone else's (and that's the important part)arrangement.

Like a hard rock version of a britney spears song, for instance. however, david cook didn't arrange this song. chris cornell did. i listened to it to see if it was any good and its not as good as it could be. the problem is that he's not giving Chris Cornell, who arranged the song, proper credit for it as far as i've seen.
