wonkymom what kind of SUING RIGHTS do you think that 12 year old girl has since the amusement park admitted human error? I would think they would have to pay for ALL of her medical bills including physical therapy but I am hoping she gets MILLIONS. That park by all rights should have to completely liquidate all of it's assets and give her the money, that girl will likely have physical handicaps for life so she should be set for life too.
FYI, the ride operator didn't raise the platform high enough to raise the safety net, which caused the 12 year old girl to free-fall onto solid ground, paralyzing her for life! Ooops!
Quite a thrill is right. But I would not let my kids try it. Too risky, and not just the net issue. Looks easy to dislocate something, break something, or who knows what. Over-protective Mom here, but I'd rather be this way, than taking chances just for a thrill.

@platefullofbacon The operator was neither a female nor a teenager, and the ground crew, not the person on top, is responsible for raising the cage to the proper level. However, I used to work at Extreme World, and I can't understand how safety protocol was so blatently disregarded. While both the owners and the operator (if the operator is who I assume) are very kind people, human error on the part of the "dropmaster," to an incredible degree, was responsible for this horriffic accident.
@platefullofbacon at the park I work at you have to be 18 to operate a ride, the person at the bottom of this ride was the attendant, that is what I am, and in most cases like this one the attendant is supposed to give the operator a signal that tells the operator that the ride is all set to go. According to a lot of the news articles the attendant did not give the signal yet and the operator released the girl without the signal being given. And like people have said the operator was 33
@platefullofbacon It's kind of offensive that you keep saying stupid teenage operator because not all teenagers are reckless and irresponsible. I am very good at my job and though I do not have to operate the ride yet I am always on the look out for everything to make sure all safety precautions are taken. Not all teenagers are "stupid"

Intelligence typically doesn't change significantly over the lifespan, so even though teenagers occassionally do stupid things, they are not inherently stupid people. In the event that people were indeed stupid as teenagers, they would remain that way as adults (actually, maybe teenagers are dumber than I thought.)

@brockaloupe Come to Wisconsin! It's beautiful about 2 months out of the year. LOL I do have to say though. Wisconsin Dells is a great place to vacation. If you ever get a chance, go there and spend a week. You'll have a blast. I usually go to Chula Vista in the winter and spend a few days in the indoor water park.
