  • this is just wax stimulacra :|

  • Homie check the date this video was posted.

  • like the dentist on isle of misfist toys, yadadayadayuntess, avalanche, quit gritting, tweaking , ormakinfg thsose who do so do so! anyway of course he knows

  • ok bro ill do it

  • the latin flavor on the 2nd and 3rd record was weak, fake wannabe latin music imo... the flavor wasn't really there... I just got done listening to this record three times and holy shit. To me, THIS is the Mars Volta's 2nd record heh... just fuckin mindblowing front to back

  • no man frances the mute was fucking incredible. amputechture was kind of weak. i think goliath might be better than de-loused.

  • amputhecture wasn't weak at all

  • i apreciate amputechture more now that iv given bedlam some good listens. and i also finely got to see them live and i absolutly love bedlam.

  • amputechture was by far the best

that album sends me into outer space

  • what was the first album you heard?

i found out about them after they put out francis but i thought de loused was better for a long time. and than amputechture was such a dissapointment after digging so deep into francis. its so random over-produced sounding. its a lot like deloused where everything is perfect. and bedlam is just a blast from start to finnish.

but deloused and francis are still my fave

  • Bedlam Is The Best By Far But after That Frances The Mute Kicks Ass Also

  • First I heard was Frances the Mute.

But I prefer De-Loused and Amputechture.

  • Except that The Mars Volta doesn't strive to make good latin music, they strive to make music.

  • I don't think you or I know that definitively, and I never ascertained such a thing. So, I'm afraid I still stand by what I said...

  • frances teh mute was absolutely amazing.

  • i think the problem was (now dont quote me on this) but i was watching an omar interview and he said he wants people who help give ideas to what he writes and be more into what they are doing and he said and now we have thomas and our style has changed and something along the lines of that is a good thing. i dont know if you can understand that very well..but yeah...john didnt contribute enough.

  • holy shit awesome vocals!!!!!

  • Can't you just be happy that there are bands out there who have the courage and vision to release such contrversial and excellent material? Its not your job to judge, just fucking listen you ingnorant ass. [if you agree with me, that wasn't meant for you]

  • @LuminaireDivided fuck thats a good comment motherfucker.

  • Wax Simulacra Idle Tooth.....

  • damn! and if I were jus born Yesterday!

  • There previous stuff was alot more reliant on atmospheric build up and was more listenable, there were select moments of sheer unbridaled chaotic madness, as opposed to bedlam that just seems to focus on the sonic assault extreme intensity aspect of their music. They need to pull it together again.

  • I'm not too keen on alot of their new material, I mean some of it's brilliant, but I don't know I feel like Bedlam is less mature than their previous stuff if that makes sense.

  • I love Pridgen but still I can't compare him to what Jon did on Drunkship of Lanterns OMG:D

  • so true

  • I'm so glad they picked up a drummer that could fill johns shoes. Don't get me wrong theodore is one of the greatest drummers of our time. But this guy is pretty fucking sick!

  • won guitar center competition at age 9, youngest sponsored person in Zildjian history (400 years). Hes an amazing drummer/musician. Sick as shiitt

  • some creative dudes.

  • I miss theodore, but I suppose this will do

  • i am so incredibly excited for this album. I could just spit...

  • As for Pridgen, I'm very happy he's on board and hope he stays with the Volta. Looking forward to his input, he's not only got great rythm, but it would seem he's more musical than a lot of composers in the charts right now, especially interesting considering he's a drummer!

  • definetly. being a drummer and being a music student, you have to work extra hard to work on compositions because you dont have a melodic intrument. as for your comments on deloused im just starting to appreciate the mars volta and that album is definatly more accessible for me than any of their other albums

  • You're clearly a fucking pussy drummer.

  • Lol...OUCH!!!!!

  • I love all the Volta's albums and the Tremulant EP, but in different ways. Deloused is seemingly the most accessible if you haven't listened to them before. Frances is the most poetic and lyrically brilliant, Amputechture is a rather unfocused mush but has some exceptional moments and is still one of my favourite albums. Bedlam is shaping up nicely and I'm glad to see it is once again very different (perhaps not as much as the difference between Frances and Ampu though).

  • great comments amarezero, nice to hear comments on their music by someone who's obviously listened to it all and not just opinions about their performances which aren't always the same as studio albums. I love their total abandon when they're live, this band is original. like this track too, they never disappoint

  • Appreciated, thecat69meow :)

TMV are far and away my favourite band (followed by Radiohead) and I have a tendency to fully through myself into things I like.

There performances are really different, but I think they're also improving in recent years. Going to see them live in March :D

  • amarezero :) the fan's passion is what keeps bands going, these are by far probably the most passionate band around at the moment, love them too. saw them in 2003, enjoy ya gig in march, lucky you !!!!!!!!!

  • Buenismimo Los Volta. (fernando from entre rios, argentina)

  • Are you really losing faith in The Mars Volta because their drummer left? I'll give you that Jon was borderline Legendary. But in the real scheme of things, are Omar and Cedric going to allow someone drum for them that doesn't enhance their play style? Seeing them in 1 week in Burlington, VT, i'll be sure to post soemthing after.

  • thomas pridgen IS legendary too

  • understatement

  • you seem to share the same knowledge about them as me im very interested in ur input and cant wait for ur post

  • i really love amputechture, to me it was a musical masterpiece from start to finish it flowed incredibly and had moments that just blow you away.

  • I agree. I'm impressed with the way each album has, in my opion, outdone each other. They're all still great, though. Unlike with a lot of other bands, I can't place any of their discs as a least fav.

As far as drummers, Thomas is good, but I STILL miss Jon. I just always FELT it when I watched and listened to him play...

  • I still FELT like WOAAAHHHHHHHH.

Thomas Pridgen is just as bad ass so shut up. The Mars Volta progress whilst every other band, yes EVERY other band, even Tool, digress into bullshit.

  • Hey...

You're quite the belligerant ass, huh? Why don't YOU shut up. You're not the only one entitled to an opinion...

  • Tom is an amazing drummer, thats an objective fact. But does his style and skill really fit in or compliment The Mars Volta? i dont really think so. Jon Theodore was a bit of a dick, but that drumming on Frances the Mute was amazing. I think its a lot easier to jsut bang away than actually show restraint and compliment evertyhing else.

  • Tom hahhahaahaha.

  • yeah i sorta agree... im still having to adjust to TP's non latin flavor... but what do you mean about JT being a dick? im not saying he wasnt, not saying he was, i just literally want to know if youve read or heard things about him, like whats your source on that... ive also heard that JT is getting together with Zac de la rocha or kim thayil or someone like that for a project, but that was awhile ago, so maybe it didnt happen

  • well to begin with, he was the one who decided to quit TMV.. and if I recall well, i think he also said to them that making Bedlam in Goliath was a shit, that he wasn't going to mess with that fucking ouija thing (but i'm not sure if it was him or the sound guy...)

  • on wikipedia it said he had to quit due to financial problems or something

  • who are we talking about? i'm sorry, but my comment is like 10 pages before this one, so i'm not really sure... is it Theodore?

  • yea

  • No. Omar fired him because he "wasn't happy playing live" and he was bringing the rest of the bands mood down.

He's still a good drummer. One Day As a Lion was pretty cool.

  • i agree but i think his drumming on this album is amazing for this sound they were going for. what sound that is idk but jon did do an AMAZING job on Frances which is a totally different sound from TBIG

  • @elcispunkyoxo does any1 here realize it doesnt matter because omar composes everything? except i think on deloused. and yes, they're both amazing drummers because they're able to play the crazy shit that's written, but we can't tell which one's better from tmv recordings because its too controlled by omar. live maybe when they improv we can judge a little. and in other bands they've been in where they compose their own shit, then we know.

  • @canthinkverywell Omar writes the stuff yes, but the sound of the drummer is so much more influenced by the drummer's personal style (much more than a guitarist). And plus the band is soo loose that at times they're free to play whatever. You can definitely tell the differences between Jon and Thomas even though they don't necessarily "write" any of it.

  • @Theblob516 well i agree that when they're "loose" you can judge but that would only be live. and on the records you'd definitely notice differences in style (drummers of different styles tend to be louder, softer, more syncopated, maybe the types to put an accent where it doesnt really go) but probably not much difference in technical skill. i think the only times we can really judge them is live and in different bands, but it shouldnt even matter as long as volta albums kick ass

  • when is the release date for the new album?

  • the twenty'gayith of janu'gay, two thousandgay

  • Pridgen is freakin' amazing.

  • itll be the same as all the others in that itll feel alien at first, but after a good listen it wont leave the cd player for a month. evolution is the key, fk cookie cutter pop style albums

  • wow

uh did your parents have the same parents?

  • well, that blue tone of the image fits PERFECTLY to the song/album imo

    nicely done

  • Looks better than Amputechture for sure. I agree they can't repeat the same thing every time, but De-Loused was my favourite. Frances was stellar too, but some bits were less listenable, while I could just start up De-Loused and listen to it all, there were some bits I wanted to skip. Amputechture was definitely listenable, but it wasn't nearly as good as the other ones. This looks better than Amputechture, at any rate, can't say much more for now.

  • THE DRUMMIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG

    AARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    i dont play drums

  • Keep this in mind when trying to scrutinize any narrative or melody that seems approachable in their work and simply enjoy the ride.

I can only commend a band that continuously challenges and pushes their audience as much as their music.

  • THE DRUMMING!

  • If then it is - incoherent, dislocated, unfathomable then......GOOD! At it's most very basic it represents the complexities of the human psyche. Of any human experience of the post-modern world. That is to say fractured, decentred, schizophrenic.

  • sweet lord the drumming

  • If the Mars Volta repeated Deloused for every other album they've ever made they'd be the same as any other band! Instead they continue to expand and explore the themes that they find interesting/inspiring. With this said it is redundant to view their work as succinct, compartmental songs or even albums. Instead view their work as one continuous expression.

  • yeah but...

    what about the drumming?

  • I Think Francis the mute is the best Album they've produced so far. very latin, very hard, crystal clear.

  • very much 6 minutes of fucking birds chirping

    dlitc plz

  • tweep tweeep tweep twep...... tweep. god im stoned wtf am i listning to again.. tweep tweep .. tweep

  • dude, same thing happens to me every time

  • HAHA funny but i do like frances. i was a big deloused fan forever but eventualy i got bored and i still think frances is the best. amputechture isnt nearly as good as either of them tho still a great album. i fear they may have peaked with frances. but who knows, icky thump was a shock if i ever heard one.

  • frances will be one of the albems of this centuary one that everyone will look back on in time and just say wow.. so its pointless comparing to that album as i dont think much else from any band will live up to it for a long time. but this new cd does sound alot better than amputechture am looking very much to listning to the whole thing

  • I think Frances And De-Loused are incomparable masterpieces.

  • i agree with everyone except i believe that delaused was miles beyond frances.

amputechture was awsome, a musical masterpiece. and as for this album, everything ive heard from it has dissapointed me. they sound WAY different than they used to, and i dont like it.

its okay, but i think they've peaked with amputechture.

  • everything i've heard from this new cd i've really liked, moreso than amputechture, but i'm not saying amputechture was a downfall or anything because i loved it too. the new cd kinda scared the hell out of me with the whole plot of things and how goliath is a spirit they are contacting through a ouiji board called the soothsayer. fuck that ouiji shit, it scares the hell out of me now. but i don't care i'm goinng to buy this cd for sure.

  • I love everything from this cd so far, the new sound is amazing. I think it could be the best cd since de-loused. I wasn't a fan of amputechture at all, too slow moving for me. but frances was very good.

  • That's another great thing about everything I've heard from this cd; The speed of it brings a lot more intensity. De-Loused is my favorite by far, but The Bedlam In Goliath is sounding great. Man, what I would do to meet up with Omar sometime. I love his quintet he got's going on.

  • loveing it

  • i personally think that drummer is very good but the only time i think his playing worked for the song was the intro and the outro.

  • This drummer makes me forget all about JT. And that's something.

  • aaaaaaaargh what the fuck

  • ummmmmm this guy maybe fast and all...and the double kick patterns are super easy...

    JT owns this guy hard....

    JT > most drummers alive

  • Nope...sorry...Jon is not on Thomas' level, at all...he's nice, but people make Jon out to be some sort of drum god, he's not on that kinda level

  • thats because you're horrible at drums and don't understand what you're listening to

JT > this clown by a million miles

  • I find the floating trebelly guitar over the whole thing is annoying and totally unecessary. Its like an alien throwing up for 3 minutes

  • Listen to it under the influence of a hallucinogen. you'll understand, trust me.

  • woah why are people dissin the new drummer, i think hes pretty good, it seems as if hes influenced by some metal music cause he gives him that type rhythym goin, but thats just my opinion

  • Why are you old fans so afraid of the band evolving? You may not like it...but at least they're being true to themselves and their artistic vision.

I guess I'm biased since I love everything they've done.

  • exactly. some people just don't understand that the mars volta is a progressive band. its inevitable that they're gonna change and evolve over time. the whole point of this band is originality and being unique. it wouldn't be original and unique if all the albums sounded similar.

  • if they ever make drum hero they got to put this in it awsome

  • there's some kind of windows xp advice sound around 1:10 ?

  • lol hahahah "DOOT"

  • any one think cedrix voice is too high in the this and the last one?? me's do

  • its cuz

all the food cedric been eatin'

    is constricting his larynx

i'm making this all up as i go

  • tom p kan can.

    !!!!!!!

  • Yes the drums are a bit bold, but it will only disrupt my enjoyment if every other song on the album is also drum kick smothered.

Otherwise this is pretty new and kickass :)

  • i dont like the new mars volta, after deloused they all went to shit, i liked francis the mute but it was nothing compared to deloused

  • I totally agree.. i dont know what happened

  • De-Loused is my favourite album of all time. I find it strange that I don't remotely like anything they have done since. I still follow the band but to me, they seem like a completely different group of people than those who made De-Loused.

  • too bad they were too drugged to do a single song right live

also i fuckin love the new shit

  • new drummer- different sound =(

  • i feel like ive lost a child.

  • the guys from Thrice recommended these guys and im glad they did. good stuff.

  • i'm glad they like good music.

and i'm glad you've finally seen the light.

but get deloused in the comatorium and listen to it first.

  • crunkship etc

  • Mars Volta is hands down the best rock band out there Thomas pridgeon is the icing on the cake.

  • Behind Radiohead, theyre probably my favorite band of all time. so sick. i wish jon was still there though.. maybe pridgen will be able to win me over

  • I'm a fan of their sound in general. This is definitely a twist on their sound. I'm undecided about how I feel about the changes in general, but I am favoring the new drummer, I just don't know if they'll ever be as strong as Deloused. I think that record will go down as an all time great...or at least it SHOULD

  • completely agree about the album Deloused. It's a great peice of work. Produced well and just great songs were written. The interludes were tastefully done and weaved through the songs realy well. It wasn't as overproduced and over written as their more recent albums I feel.

  • I dont know if im the only one to notice, but every Mars Volta album that comes out isnt as good as the last.

  • you are right... but i think this album is going to be better than Amputechture.

  • i dont know about the new mars volta maaaann. i was expecting bigger and better things

  • Love this song. I honestly cannot wait until the album is released in its full glory. Got tickets to see them live in March iswell :D cnt wait.

  • to me, theodore was like a bonham style rock drummer playing jazz, while pridgen is a jazz player playing rock. either way, they're both monsters although i do have to lean towards theodore as i grew up on bonham. saw tmv in 06 in melbourne australia and they blew my mind. cassandra gemini made me lose my shit! saw em again a year later with pridgen and still blew my mind. can't wait for new album! tmv are the best and the most interesting band on the planet.

  • btw its mainly a double kick roll. its standard beat

  • thomas made this song boring, its pure show off, hes playing for himself, not for the song. no way pirdgen could play along frances the mute. jon made its the most amazing of theyre albums

  • I hate frances the mute lol. Those interludes made me sick. Deloused was the best mix of talent and playing for the song out of all the albums i think. The best written songs as well in my opinion. The drumming was good though on frances the mute, I just didn't dig the way the album was made and flowed.

  • the mars volta is brilliant no matter if Jon left and Thomas came.

    They are still number #1

    new song is awesome :)

  • i personally think that thomas is better than jon, but they both have their own styles, and that made them way different drummers. still, they contributed a lot to mars volta...

  • this song is boring to me. it is kinda pridictable...evan after hearing it just once. i can hear what he's about to hit before he does....I could never do that with jon..ever... you cant follow the guy..what jon does cant be taught.

  • this new drummer follows omars guitar rhyth a bit more, I guess thats the reason

  • Plain and simple...Jon couldn't handle this tune...this was made for thomas to spazz out. To me Jon would have made the song boring

  • very true. the fact that they are actually letting the drummer control the whole song just shows that they have more confidence in thomas than john.

  • arguing about music is fucking stupid. you like it or you don't.

  • i'm not arguing about liking the music or not.

im just commentating on the fact that thomas is a better drummer than john.

ive liked all of the mars volta cds, regardless of who the drummer is.

  • Listen to dvstyler.........fuck people

  • and yes, they do give grades for music majors...

  • teh shit

  • fuck that, jon would have hit a heavier groove. i know it. I have never FELT a drummer's music like Jon's...I'm a guitar player, and he's one of the only drummers I could just listen to them drum alone.

  • dude, if you are a serious drummer. i'm talking college major quality, you would know that thomas pridgen is simply better than john. sorry. now for grooving its up to your preference, but if they got grades for their skills, thomas pridgen would get an A, and john would get a B-

  • HAHaha! There is no double bass pedal, thats how sick he is. You know this is just a small freak out in the enormous album to come. Without record companies it would be one track.

  • why would it be one track? they make progressive music. doesn't mean their self indulgent idiots. them putting it into one track would make them...as i said, the most unintelligent people in music to date. having tracks in an album and how their arranged is one of the most important parts of creating a story. and dont give me any of that frances shit. that was 6 tracks, not one.

  • hate to break it to ya..it was one song. Listen to the interviews.

  • Who cares what they do... it's their band. As long as they are doing what they want it's still the same kickass Mars Volta.

  • I beg to differ

  • The new drummer has really messed this song up for me. Where is the rhythm? Jon Theodore needs to come back.

  • Couldn't agree more, he seems more bothered about double bass pedals than about groove man. Long live Jon!

  • Dude...thats ONE PEDAL!!!! Thomas doesn't use double bass lol

  • Haha, yeh, that is one pedal. Good ear Shaizerss.

  • Even if it is one pedal, which I don't doubt. I have seen drummers play with one pedal like that before, it's not that impressive. Instead it becomes boring and pushes the Volta towards metal esque music which really doesn't take my fancy.

  • Dude...this song needs Thomas' prowess. Jon can groove...but quite frankly his drumming would made this particular song really boring. When Thomas needs to groove he does. But they brought him in because he can stretch out like few drummers can

  • dude nobody knows that jon was only in it for the money. thats why he was kicked out.

  • This Wax Simulacra and not tooth thing

  • Theses new songs are bomb

    I fuckin love The Volta

and yes the will go down in history

  • tmv will go down in history JUST like the doors..

  • TMV will fry your brain if you see them live, I saw them with System of a Down and both bands are awe inspiring, but TMV are more like the Doors. Cedric seems to be possessed by something, maybe Jim Morrison, I don't know for sure. He goes into convulsions and crashes to the stage floor just like Jim, even their political views are alike. See them live you won't regret it.

  • when u saw them live, was everyone slamm dancing at system of a down, and then all the volta fans stopped when TMV got on? cause i wanna go in '08, but i dont wanna get my rib broken again, lol.

  • The crowd reacted differently to the two bands. SOAD's music tends to drive the crowd into a frenzy because of it's pulsating beat and blasting guitars, TMV is psychedelic, they put you into a trance, but you don't get violent and start shoving and pounding on your neighbor. Should not be a fractured rib fest. Unless the guy next to you has a psychotic episode from smoking too much crack.

  • oh my god this is getting me pumped about the new album. anyone know when the release date is. i heard it would be before 2008

  • It's January 29, 2008.

  • yo if you have the mp3 i will like give u the best sex ever, canu send it to me?

    aim = seven2eleven1

  • Meh, song is alright. Too much post-processing on Cedric's voice, IMO.

  • Sorry guys Gmail wants to be a total... umm lets just say cant send over gmail if you really want songs umm mail me your MSN and I can transfer over that I guess. :/ sorry guys. :S

  • Holy CRAP is right.

  • Holy crap!

    This...SOUNDS AWESOME!!!

  • wow, Thom's drum sound sounds much different than the sound he has when he plays live. It's kinda sounds like Jon's sound. Another marsterpiece from (cheesy I know) The Mars Volta.

  • Okay... Okay if anyone wants the mp3 of Goliath and Aberinkula tell me and I will ummm not send them too you at all (Yes I will :D)

  • how did u get them?

  • I am sorry to inform you all that due to copyright infringements I will not be able to post the other two songs Goliath and Aberinkula. Sorry everyone that I couldn't brin you these orgasmic tunes.

  • I HATE YOU!!!! Not really though...but I do wish I could have heard those songs.

  • uhm, you should like send them to me... ill put you on the heros section of my myspace :O

  • Tres, tres, bombin, especially the video, whoever filmed it was awesome!

  • very steady hands... lol

  • went to the Berkeley show in February saw them perform this song it was awesome!! whose going to the new years show?? costumes required!!

  • oh man this is soo fucking awesome.
