New media is the study and analysis of a prominently used form of technology at any given time. That said, at one point a book was new media, as was radio, as was television, etc, etc.
Unfortunately today new media is taken to prominently mean "digital technology." Which really shows a lack of insight into the field.

New media is the marriage of mediated communications technologies with digital computers.
So technology that revolves digital computers is a relevant to New media.

Those CEO didn't manage to conclude what's New Media because its something neither under their control nor up to their prediction.
New media is owned by the Internet Community. That's you and me. We are all CEO of New Media.
