  • did you have any engine heat issues?

also how was the braking for your car? I find my 335i brakes to be really sensitive and difficult to heal toe with.

  • Running at the Willow Springs big track does not require a lot of braking. Turn 3 is where you do most of the braking, dropping down from 100 + to about 60 in turn 3 to 4.The street of willow is harder on the brakes. Running there I found that the stock brakes were fading. One time on the track the reduced power output indicator did come on. It happened on a hot day in the standard traction control mode. It is recommended to run in the DTC mode which allow some slip. Full off loses traction.

  • man, the balance of the 335i is awesome, nice and flat through the corners

  • Are you running with NASA? I'm surprised you're allowed to run with the Gtech..my last run they made me take it off...must be a '09 update or something...anyhow nice vid.

Camber plates made a world of difference for me at the track (that and sway bars)...really reduced tire wear, just be careful not to add too much camber, you'll burn the inner portion on fast tracks like Willow faster than the outer shoulders..

  • In answer to your questions...I'm running with the Open Track Racing group. No sanctioned events, just having fun. They dont complain about the Gtech. I bought a 1999 M3 which I have installed a roll cage, 6 point harness, Sparco Evo 2 racing seats, camber plates and Oil cooler. Still has stock engine and suspension.

  • Nice, I can't decide if I want to keep my current car - strip it and make it a dedicated track car or just get a new 335 and have another dual purpose vehicle. Pros and Cons to both, especially with a limited "track" budget. 1.2Gs with just slicks is pretty impressive, especially for stock suspension...plus 335 actually has some torque...does the open diff in the rear ever become an issue (traction wise?)

  • Nice Ride, I'm looking to get rid of my daily driven track friendly EVO for another dual purpose comuter/track day car. The bang for buck factor is really high for the 335. Your tire wear seams really excessive, but I'm only comparing it to a set of RE01's which last me at least 3-4 track days easily. Must be the added weight and compound...any hint of brake fade with those R Comps on there? Any oil heating issues? Just wondering for future plans....

  • The tire wear on the 335 was high due to riding on the outside edges even with the maximum -2 degree camber. Needed at least -3 deg in the high speed turns with the soft tires. I got the best wear on used slicks with near -4 deg on the M3. The problem with that is it can snap into over steer. See the M3 videos on my page. I only had one time where the 335 reported the reduced output. It was due to the traction control on and pushing it continuously into activation on a 100 degree day.

  • Yeah, I watched the spins...have you tried changing the roll center and reducing the camber (should offset the snap hook while maintaining proper steady state geometry - assuming you're not running massive horsepower and generating power-oversteer - should aid in better wear as well)...you might try a softer rear bar setting / springs to get a little more rear bit.

  • window down? i thought it was window up? what if you crash lol

  • It is the requirement of the group that we run in to have all movable windows down. The reason is, if you crash, the emergency crew does not have break windows to get at you.

  • The reason that you can't hear the engine is the windows are required to be down on the track and the wind noise dominates. Its easer to hear the other cars Im gaining on than hearing my car. I'm trying some augmented mics to see if I can get better sound.

  • LOL, you replaced the heavenly sound of the engine by meatloaf...

  • Im def taking my 135 to willow springs although i'm gonna suck compared to that...

  • Nice drive - the Cayman wasn't being driven on a good line at all - he should have let you past much earlier, he was holding you back!

  • nice apex'ing

  • nice vid. automatic? dont see any paddles and i think i say ur hands off the steering wheel once.

  • It's a 6 speed Manual with lots of toque (300 lb-ft from 1500-5000RPM). I run in 4th (top speed 143 MPH) from turn 6 up to turn 3 and drop down to 3rd (top speed 110 MPH) entering turn 3 and run to turn 6 and shift back to 4th. I hit about 120 MPH in the back straight and 130 in the front.

By the way, when I'm in front, the Cayman can't keep up with me. We are running in the Blue Group of "Open Track Racing" so you are only allowed to pass on the front and back straights.

  • Nice, i traded my 05 STi for a 07 335i coupe steptronic w/paddle shifters, any mods done to it? i'm guessing its stock since u said 300 tq. Awesome, it just threw me off cause i think i saw u shift once, but barely any lag so u dont need to compensate as much with gear change

  • The car is stock except that I am running OZ ultraleggera wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, 235/40ZR18 on 18X8 front and 265/35ZR18 on 18x9 on the rear. The bad part is I'm going through my left front in one track day, right in about two. I'm waiting on camber plates that are on back order. Hopefully with the camber plates I will be able to get a few more track days on a set of tires. The Pilot Sport Cup tires want to have major negative camber

  • Nice vid, but you shouldn't have added the music and let us listen to that amazing soundtrack of an engine. as a side note, way to keep up w/ a Cayman!

  • +1 buddy
