Nina's not bad but her glissades are kind of... flailing around everywhere, but then again, I'm not one to judge. I feel like her technique might not have been as good as some others and she's a really good dancer but she might not be suited to this particular piece. I love Paloma Herrera's version, though!
Ella es bastante buena pero le falta un poco de trabajo todavia en la parte de los hombros y brazos y limpiar un poco mas esas glisade y ese jetté pero está muy bien.
There's always room for improvement. Yes, I can see that she's a respected professional ballerina. But I also think that her shoulders are a little too far forward, and that her feet aren't as turned out as they could be. Just my opinion.
Poooosh, I'm totally nonplussed that amateurs would so cavalierly assess a prima ballerina's technique. Any fool can see that Nina has gorgeous feet and shoulders and arms and hands ... and what a smile, such personality, such a treasure. ♥ Nina.
@DrVivianBell amateurs...yes but people know what they like or don't on an instinctive level. I know next to nothing about ballet, I am not ashamed to admit it. That said after watching countless Kitri's this morning on YouTube and I will admit I've been a bit obsessed, I will say that I don't enjoy watching this dancer.
I can't tell you why, I can only say for me she is not fluid. She looks mechanical on some level, like she it dotting i's and crossing t's.
Hmmmm, you have a point about our gut-level responses to art and artists.
Perhaps you'd be better convinced by a younger Nino dancing Kitri? Search "Nina Anashiavili - Don Quixote Act I Kitri's Entrance (Bolshoi)," uploaded by LuoCatherine. I suspect the video isn't as readily chanced upon because of the misspelling of Nina's surname.
What a smile, such personality, such a treasure. ♥ Nina.
@DrVivianBell Yes I do agree that watching a different performance made a difference. Thank you for that advice.
Also I greatly appreciate how respectfully you replied to my post, I appreciate your gracious response very much and I respect that you didn't insult me or put down my intelligence just because I saw this dancer and her abilities differently. My mother would say you have class and I learned something by looking deeper.
@2princess4ever For your information, principal dancers of the Mariinsky and the Bolshoi are all called "Prima Ballerinas", although that title is rarely used in non-Russian companies. The title you are referring to is "Prima Ballerina Assoluta."
Thank You Nina for all the years of assoluta dancing. Here you play with tempos, coquette with shoulders and arms (very andalucian, very Kitri) You had lightning and fire.
@balletboy89 You are crazy, she is an amazing dancer, and she is still dancing now. She's my director and she still takes class, and does special performances. A pleasure to work for, and a very caring dancer. Try to dance for more than 30 years, and than I wont have anything to say to you, until than i would advise to not critique principal dancers.
Beautiful! Every single video of her performing at the end she is always smiling <3 I hope to follow in her footsteps one day <3

As danceiz mentioned, her shoulders irked me a little. Her turnouts, I found just fine, though. Overall, however, this woman is flawless. ♥

I have seen better but it does not mean that she is not good...
Her grand jetes, specially starting with the right leg, she shows the left in the air is
not too stretched out..... But Maya Plisetskaya did not have her technique and she
was a wonderful Kitri as well....
Russians are good at jumping but were never good at turning, or course, with some exceptions.....
I like her...

@DrVivianBell Please. Start researching. She is no where a prima ballerina. A prima ballerina must be told so by a ballet master.

@2princess4ever Research? Dear, perhaps you have been on a different planet. On second thought, perhaps you ought review the annals of the Bolshoi.
