@dbsshadow I find 1st gear hard to get under control. 2nd gear is much easier to control. My GSXR1000 is lovely to bring up in 3rd with a nice slow rise and easy to get under control at the balance point, and 3rd lasts quite a while, but it is high speed. The easiest way for me is take the revs to the surge point, then close and snap open the throttle in 2nd gear. When the screen starts to obscure your view, change up to 3rd with a clutchless shift. Learn clutchless shifting on 2 wheels 1st.
