@xDisasterzFear, I'm not asure what the context its, but Moreland isn't offering to shake his hand, he's pointing his finger jokingly, like it's a pistol.
Funny is funny and this is funny, how do you think we got to our black comedy today, If it wasn't for Mantan you wouldn't have the comedy you have now. Honeybee your stupid, know YOUR history. What type of education do YOU have, the shit you say just pisses me off. What would you have done back then? NOTHIN. What have YOU done to promote the black race. He did what he had to do.
im glad they didnt allow black people to continue to ac stupid on tv...we can entertain in better ways then being stupid...thanks to the actors we have today like denzel,jada and will,and so many more they plays great...to represent us.. i like that...

@honeybee33real This may be the most ignorant thing I've ever read on Youtube. How dare you minimize this man's contribution to popular culture - black AND white ?
The Civil Rights Movement killed his career and he was biter about it the rest of his life. He was a wonderful comic with perfect timing. He has a fair body of work, but could have worked for years but producers were afraid of being accused of racism and he couldn't buy a job.; so sad. I love this old routine -works well in this Charlie Chan film. Loved the old Charlie Chan films.
@JonWesley54 Interesting... Who'd think that the movement could kill opportunity? The "official" date of the Civil Rights Movement Act is 1964, which made Mantan about 62 years old. He died in 1973. Most historians agree that the movement "started" in 1955, however THAT would not have affected poor Ben Carter's career, since he died a young man [age 35] in 1946. {sigh}
..Just givin' some history. I hope that someone finds it interesting. I do.
@JonWesley54 It was only because of the likability and the true good nature of performers such as Mantan Morleland that the civil rights movement ever had an opportunity in the first place. It is ironic that such good natured people gave rise to a movement which on 2011 has devolved into a movement that amounts to n=nothing more than thugs at a milwaukee carnival targeting white people for beatings. Let's face it. There is no possibility of a multiracial society now.
Respond to this video... Mantan Moreland was truly a good natured soul. Black America today had nothing in common with this type of person. Black America today has a black president and is rioting against white people,. There have been anti white riots in several cities. The latest as of this post has been NMilwaukee. It is as tragedy but perhaps not too bad. Moreland h=is long gone now. He has not witnessed the rejection of black America of living side by side with white America.
It's sad that racism at the time prohibited wonderful comedians like them to gain greater fame. It's a great laugh-out routine, funny after all these decades.
I still remember these scenes because they were the highlight of the Charlie Chan films and a great comedy routine. These two men were great comedians.
In a fair Old Hollywood, Vaudevillians Moreland and Carter would've had a series of movies for themselves and been bigger stars - like Abbott and Costello and others.
It is nice we at least get a glance of them in these films.
I've heard about Mantan from Spike Lee - he seemed to have a very poor opinion of him. I wonder why? He seems like a good actor and pretty funny.
