  • I believe the amityville horror, but i do think the story was embelished to make it more dramatic and scary.

  • i would love to live there to write a book of what i see

  • this is scary and its real so you all

    shut

  • DAM RIGHT I WOULD LIVE THERE

  • This house is BEAUTIFUL now. I would live there in a heartbeat.

  • @MsDNA100 dream house deluxe.

  • Also, to answer the question, Would you live in this"? Well, for someone like myself who was on the street for two years, I would live anywhere with a roof over my head.

  • @HypocriteSkeleton3 even if u were disturbed by ppl, or spirits or anything, if its true that is

  • The real Horror was the DeFeo murders, and the fucking no life tourists getting the idea from the bullshit stirred by The Lutz Family taking pictures and invading people's privacy afterwards. Ironically, the Cromarty family didn't experience no paranormal in the house. Therefore, The Lutz Family were liars to create a HOAX for money. I must say it was pretty clever, but making money off the blood of six victims and a deranged psycho path in Ronald DeFeo is pathetic.

  • @HypocriteSkeleton3 Nonetheless, the film and book were interesting and fun on a Horror fictional stand point like any other Horror story.

  • Refuring to my other comment all I did (by the way my mother and father were with me - my mother was embarressed) was stand on the sidewalk and take a couple of pictures. But there is no excuse for some of the things certain people do when seeing the house - like uraniting all over the lawn!

  • You have to understand when a house becomes famous (whether the story is true or not) you're going to have people drop by to see the house. It's just human nature. I once visited the house in the summer of 1980. A car with a group of people came by and asked (sarcasticly) Did you see any ghost?

  • is it a true story?

  • Looks completely different from the original. The door is in fact. Ery moveable, if you hit it, it practically falls out of it's frame! The banister is in fact original, so that seems to be wrong. But that was the only truth this woman said the entire video

  • I've been to this house. A few thighs happened that disprove the woman's claims. First, the window was replaced because it was destroyed, you can tell if you see it with better quality, the window

  • 56 people obviously dont want to hear the truth.

  • wait so the Cromarty's knew the Defeo family? Call me crazy but as a child im pretty sure i'd be against my family moving in to my dead freinds house.

  • I wanna live in this house

  • beautiful the daughter nice silk blouse. who through something on the house at the beginning of the video when they walkedd in

  • Comment removed

  • Do they still get the same sort of attention since the remake of the movie?

  • @chewie211171 not really The home was for sale for 950,000 just a few days ago I made a offer on the home (witch was a stupid one that was almost 700,000 dollers less then they wanted) but if you go and stand out by the home the local pple driving by will tell you how it is haha, but what happend in the house was due to what george and cathey where dwelling in trancedental meditation was the cause, what was in that home is gone, it was never the house

  • I really feel sorry for the people who have owned the house since the 1970s. The whole story indeed to be crap, however interesting.

  • I remember the toys r us ghost on this show.

  • i would turn it into a museum and charge for the entrance hahaha cause its the american way all bout the dolla

  • hey i would live in this house throw a huge bash party for kick

  • all of the lutz reports r real so shut up u hav no clue if it wasn't real no one does

  • @MrRainstorm220 how do YOU know it was true. Were YOU there?

  • I man lived in that house for 6 years, not one problem except for tourists causing chaos in that town. The poor town hasn't recoporated from it since the murders happened. The Lutzes were scam artists and already had things going on during their 28 days there. They planned it right from the beginning .

  • Lol

  • as far as the cromartys go, they knew what they were getting into when they bought that house so screw them ....i do believe something happened to the lutz family while there , and the defeos were a mess...dysfunctional at best as a family... my best guess on what really happened is that it was drug related in some way ....i think george and kathy lutz looked like they were on some shit at times as well...who knows, ronnie says he doesnt remember what happened that night and i believe him....

  • its so anyoing coz i believe & then i dont, but surely evry1 else that has or had lived in this house would of ghostly going ons too!!! i now do believe tho after looking into this, that ronnies sisterkilled them all then ronnie killed her.

  • The JREF will pay US$1,000,000 (One Million US Dollars) ("The Prize") to any person who demonstrates any psychic, supernatural, or paranormal ability under satisfactory observation. Such demonstration must take place under the rules and limitations described in this document. An applicant can be from or in any part of the world. Gender, race, and educational background are not factors for acceptance. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally able to enter into binding agreements.

  • I believe the Lutz's about what happened and the house is haunted. Anyway the guy that killed his family tainted the house even more so. What normal person kills his whole family!! thats just pure evil and im religeous and I believe evil can possess someone to do that. That guys whole personality changed after moving into that house!! I deffinitely think something evil in that house made him kill his parents and brothers and sisters. The evil in that house wanted them gone!!

  • Lorraine Warren's words are actually a source of comfort. She claims this is the most haunted house around. And it has pretty much been shown to be a hoax! So if the most haunted house around is a hoax, then we can all rest easily!

  • @SPNWnewswire dick

  • So,just a thought,if as some would have us believe a house can 'live' off negative vibes, surely it should follow that it could also 'live' off positive vibes?! I don't puport to be an expert on the paranormal, not even close, but if this phenomena exists, wouldn't my question be valid?!

  • I would love the goblins of Halloween to be occupied in my house all year long Halloween is my favorite holiday no worries im catholic does any one know if the house is for sale and if spirits still live in the house cause i would love to buy and decorate the house on Halloween cause it wouldn't be a haunted house without spirits on Halloween thumbs up if you support this idea

  • Comment removed

  • Take that Lorraine Warren!

  • The Cromarty family made a small fortune by moving into that house, playing victims, then suing the Lutzs and selling the house. They knew EXACTLY what they were buying and pulled off the biggest scam in the Amityville circus.

  • I don't think it will make much difference who says what about this house.Once the seeds of a puported haunting or demonic possession has been laid then historically this house will always be 'doomed' Two films, numerous books,'experts' in the paranormal/supernatural,they've all helped build this story up,and there will always be those who will believe the hype.

  • Geez people, Lutz was a fraud give it a rest. What may be attached to the house has nothing to do with the Defeos murder or the Lutzs. The house is built on Scacred Indian burial ground from what i remember reading.

  • @Redliner500 apparently that is a myth too,

  • This is great, thanks for the upload. Never knew the Cromities did any interviews. Was great to be in the upstairs room with the famous windows, it all seemed just so normal. Always thought the whole thing was fake and this has made me even more convinced. Fascinating though.

  • See I was right, Only true about this movie is ronnie defeo and the lultz. The rest of the film was fiction because , they said it themself that the house was never demonically haunted.

  • @sweetchiilli It is a beautiful house for sure. There is another of what looks like the same exact floorplan in the same area for sale a couple of streets away I believe.

  • I remember watching this episode as a young boy. Scared the shit out of me. I got to visit the house while in town nearly 17 years ago. While looking at it from across the street, I felt as if there was somebody watching me even though I knew the house was empty.

  • if someone pissed on my front lawn he would get his dick cut off! thats a fact mr bruiser mutha fucka! try it and see!

  • Awsome Video. Really cool to see footage from inside the real house and the Red room. :-)

  • @sweetchiilli Actually the house just sold for $1.5 million. I don't know how many people bought this house, but you can't blame them. It's a great house in a great location.

  • @5277407 - Where did you hear this info?-- When was it just sold?- because I couldnt find any recent listings of this in the Amityville property sales..

  • Comment removed

  • @JimmyD4u69 I live just a few doors down from. It was sold this past summer. Try checking the papers.

  • the house does look creepy .. especially the top two small windows. they look like eyes or something! o_o

  • @IfuckinLuvBillieJoe They're gone now.

  • whats happened in the house YOU LIVE IN,,,WHO KNOWS,,,,yes this house was made public,,we all know what happened,,,now let it rest,,,its a nice old house,,,you cant change what has happened in there by a prevous owner,,,life goes on,,,EVERY HOUSE HAS ITS HISTORY WEATHER ITS GOOD OR BAD!!

DO YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN YOUR HOUSE ,,,,BEFORE YOU MOVED IN,,,probably 100 different people have lived there before you moved in,,what about your house,,

  • @Dolphindream15 I had a discussion about that a week or 2 ago. I moved house about 3 years ago. It's build in the 1930's. Maybe people died in here too. I don't know. My brother commited suicide on the attic in the house where I grew up. There are living new people now. They don't know about what happened there.

  • @Unabomber2 WOW it goes to show unless you have lived in the same house all your life and was born in that house,,,you have no clue as to what has happened when other people have moved into the house ,,,,

its like my apartment its very old yes strange things happen,,sounds I cant explain,,in 1901 and in 1904,,a bad fire had burned all of the downtown area,my place is downtown, its very old,my guess is some one was traped during that fire of 1901 and is still tryin to find his way

  • I wouldnt mind owning THIS HOUSE,,,its a real nice old house,,,you cant take responsebility for what happens in any home before you move into it,,,doesnt matter where you live a house or a apartment,,city or out in the country,,,who knows what has lived there,,a serial killer or a rapest,,,or someone that died in the very room YOUR SLEEPING IN,,one has no clue,as to what really has happened in a house you just have moved into,,

  • Yeah, I know where the blisters came from, lol. They don't call it the red room for nothing, lol.

  • Happy Halloween Everyone and to the Ultimate legendary house in AmityVille.

  • The town should just buy the house and turn it into a horror museum / bed and breakfast of some kind where people can pay to take tours and stay the night....this would keep MOST of the crazies at bay from trespassing or being nosy. Lots of houses with similar pasts have done this and it was very successful...The Lizzy Borden house, and Villisca Ax Murder house are just a few that come to mind... and many more. It makes both tourists and the town happy. It really would be the best thing to do!

  • this scared the shit out me when i was 10..the doll! omg! fright!!!! btw ? why was joe pa investigating this when he was coaching penn state?

  • And on the next That's Incredible, ghostly apparitions and tax deductions, could they be claimed as dependents? Tune in next time, lol.

  • @chairmanofthebored1 The house itself is currently writing a novel called, " 3:!5, and just right for murder" When I entered the house and asked its reason for the book, I got really sick and had to leave. Was sick for 2 weeks and had blisters on my hands. Weird !!!!!

  • "...would you live in this house?" HELL YEAH!

Theres so much douchery going on with this piece from the Cromartys that I literally have to write it off as theyre being bitter. BUT it IS pretty awesome to see inside the home from back in 1979!

I remember watching this as a kid when it first aired and the clips (from In Search of) scared the heck outta me lol

  • i would not care if there were 6 people murdered there i woul live there if i could i dont care. it happend its not haunted people just think it is haunted that made it haunted

  • I just have to say that if you wanted to live normal lives, you shouldn't have moved into such a curious house in the first place. duh.

  • @pinkdogzrule To be fair, the Cromartys moved into the house before Jay Anson's book was released - before the whole thing went totally nuts...

  • @pinkdogzrule So what exactly are the claims on this place? Weren't 90% of them made up? Or am I wrong? If I am do not hesitate to correct me. I am never really sure if its haunted or not. I read the book & saw the movie...but who knows?

  • @Sunnyhaze2006 The book is pretty accurate, but events were moved around out of chronological order. Author Jay Anson did this to make the story more exciting. He also added some fiction (although some fiction may have come from his interviews with people who were a bit mixed up about the case).

The main untruths found in the book: There was no slime oozing from the walls (but there was slime on the carpets and a black epoxy-like substance in the keyholes) and there was no face in the red room.

  • Danny's hand WAS smashed, but they didn't go to the hospital as the book states. Most of the untruths in the book are minor things that Anson probably added to fill-in gaps in the story (like them going to the hospital, or the make/model of the priest's car). People have used these discrepancies to make a case for the haunting being a hoax.

To learn more, visit the website I mention in the description of this video - amityvillefaq (dot com).

  • @FriendshipTown Okay thank you FriendshipTown! :o) I appreciate that. I wasn't sure because the movie was so Hollywood type that its really tough to judge actual events from fake ones.

  • Does anyone know what that thing in the window is when their driving away? it was like a huge thing with glowing eyes

  • @drums42265 the day i`ll be be interested in your opinion i`ll let you know til then keep it to yourself.

  • watching old horror movie is like watching family guy in haloween event.

  • it was proved that sometimes the events can stop by themselves.it happen in few cases in some houses that there was paranormal activities and someday it seemed to stop.who knows maybe its what happen with amytiville.i agree on the fact that ppl made up stories about what was going on in the house.but i believe that there was paranormal activities in this house.

  • @supreet151 I think They are 0.0

  • where can i get a copy of that music in the back around please let me kown its the music sounds like the creep show music!

  • The police should of stopped those people from loitering around the house and patrolled until the word got out they would get arrested or ticked for disturbing the peace or stalking.

  • no i would not live in that house

  • i feel no sympathy for these people, the cromartys knew what they were buying, and so did brian wilson , and the past owners of this property..its been disguised with square windows instead of the quarter moon ones...despite the history its easily a 1 million dollar investment, and if i had the money id buy it and restore it to original condition, the lutz family tried to capitalize on a tradgic situation and shame on them.... as ronald defeo said, "no ghosts or demons, just 3 people and me...

  • no ghosts, that boy's lawyer concocted this story in order to get his client off

  • @freek373 The trial was already over by the time the Lutzes bought the house. Ronnie's lawyer was forced to take the case - he wasn't getting paid by Ronnie, so no reason to spend $80,000 to buy the house and pretend it was haunted just to get his client off.

  • @FriendshipTown they wanted to get him a new trial

  • @FriendshipTown Weber swore an affidavit, saying that they concoted this story, to get Ronnie a new trial , im not saying that nothing at all happened in the house, there may well have been residual hauntings but as for all the crap that the lutzes made up , well i think it was just that - crap

  • @the3aremine1 Did you ever see their mock Halloween party photos in the house in 1979? I agree with you.

  • @ifuseekamy i saw the halloween party pics yeah, have u read the amityville horror conspiracy - it's a good book , you should look it up if u havent already. I think too many people just want this house to be haunted, everyone likes a good ghost story but that was what it was i think , just a story. Also have you heard the Warrens talk about it?? She says the same thing about most hauntings they investigate - this is as close to hell as i want to get - pffft so annoying

    xx

  • I cant decide if this "Haunt ing" is fake or real i mean it sounds like something out of a cartoon like green ozzee ooozing out the walls?but then again im sure the lutz family had many interviews and they kept there story straight and plus why would they buy a $20,000.00+ home and move out of it a month later hmmm...

  • I believe 100% in ghosts but the whole thing was just a publicity stunt.Only thing that could be real was the 'boy at the stairs' photo atleast until someone disproves it.

  • I think the house is haunted by fairly friendly spirits i think that lutzs over exadurated their experiences and the only reason the ghosts reacted to them is because the family was a negative force in the house the new family is a positive force so anything they experience will be benevolent and friendly if they experience anything at all because ghosts most often just want to be left alone

  • It could have been true, the lutz's may have overexagerated alot because they were so freaked out. idk. anythings possible. wether it was true or not, the 2005 movie was very good.

  • no the devil doesn't have to spook someone because he spooked some other people in the past plus they have a lot to do. they don't have the time to sit around in a house waiting for somebody to move into it. If you beat the piss out of somebody does that mean you have to beat the piss out of the next person you see? no

  • At 3:17 is that Joe Paterno Penn State F-Ball Coach?

  • Not all demon like Spirits like to exposed themselves to everyone! If they did, then more People will be turning back to God!

  • when you die you go the lord or to hell. if not a hoax then what is it or what are they or who is it scaring them?

  • when you die you go to heaven or hell. It would have to be demonic so yes you have a good reason to be scared

  • That's one reason why I hate de-bunkers; They'd be "Holocaust Deniers" except the people who feed off that meal ticket are really aggressive. (I don't deny the awful stuff during WW2, please don't hurt me you vicious assassins!) So they go about "Disproving" all sorts of fun myths that spice up life.

And, now, a "Ghost House" isn't a good investment 'cause the "Real Estate" bubble burst, it was used to sell the house for more $ earlier...

  • What kind of people go to a house to pee on its lawn and drive over it with cars on xmas eve? Thats pretty disgusting. I can understand more now why the locals hate tourists going to it. Taking pics outside is one thing but that is another matter all together.

  • @TheVargr i totally agree!

  • @TheVargr Drunk people with nothing better to do.....

  • Dawn killed the family and Ronald covered up for her.

  • @fanofhorror100 That's actually what Ronnie claimed, that Dawn killed the kids and he killed her. At least that's what Ronnie claimed at one point. He has told numerous version of how the murders went down, where he implicated Dawn, or a mob hit man, or an unknown assailant, etc. Hell, he even said at one point his own mother killed the kids! Ronnie DeFeo is a habitual liar...

  • @FriendshipTown he'd get on great with the lutzes then

  • people don't lie under oath? I beg to differ.

  • id wouldnt mind too sleep couple night there, mybe rent a room upstairs, I like that house alot not sure why but it looks cool because its famous,,

  • at 3:22 if you pause it just right a face pops up.........

  • omg!!!!!!!!

  • always fucking rocking chairs

  • how anyone could live there

  • i live in amityville

  • that was a terrible movie

  • @theebadnun - I disagree! I believe the 1970's version to be the scariest movie ever!

  • regardless if this story is true or false.......I used to visit the Whaley House in San Diego quite a bit. (When I lived there) and it was said to be haunted. I never saw anything but I do believe it is haunted. just because I never experianced anything doesn't make it not true. not everyone is going to experence something in a haunted place.

  • @Astraldragon1 I agree tottally the school i used to go to grenville college has merged wityh a school leaving its historic building moreten house behind i found this house scary and the girls boarding house was bang in the middle of it they experienced things that were abdnormale and not righ ti agree its a bad place and is haunted!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The people who live there now probley get the blues on halloween from people around the town I wouldn't live there just for the public stigma

  • This was like the first episode of That's Incredible. I remember seeing the Amityville House on the promo.

  • I remember seeing this episode many years ago with my big sis ,we nearly peed our pants!!!!

  • I, TOO, would get scared when That's Incredible would show/air hauntings/ghosts.

  • @AngelofAnguish, your comment makes no sense. You said you would be scared to live in a house when That's Incredible would show/air hauntings/ghosts. That's Incredible was trying to tell you that the story in the book and movie was a fabrication. Get it? It was a lie!

  • I said, "I would get scared when That's Incredible would SHOW/AIR hauntings/ghosts." I DID NOT say "I'd be scared to 'live in a house' when That's Incredible would show/air hauntings/ghosts."

  • @AngelofAnguish, are you confused? Stop being scared.

  • What I find really creepy is that Mr and Mrs Cromarty look almost identical to the late Mr and Mrs DeFeo especially Mr Cromarty. I saw some pics online and they really do. Check it out sometime.

  • @gettinhitched omg, ur so right!

  • @gettinhitched I got that impression too when I saw my first picture of them on a TV programme one time.

  • I think this whole story about how the killings took place in that house was complete Bullshit!!..You mean to tell me that Ronnie shot and killed all his family members one by one and room by room and no one including the nieghbors heard all 9 shots at 3 am in the morning while some nieghbors windows were open for the fresh summer night air?..and all the victims never tried to get up and help stop ronnie from shooting..there was more people involed that we know nothing about

  • @Midnightryder7 The murders went down in mid-November. No fresh summer night air, so most windows were most likely closed. Plus we don't know for a fact if any of the victims got out of bed. Just because they were found in bed doesn't mean they were asleep at the time.

  • @FriendshipTown On the real amityville horror it said the autopsy showed the bodies were never moved though.....

  • @Slayerfan777 Yes, the bodies were found where they lay when they were shot. My earlier post was responding to how someone found it odd that no one got up *before* they were shot (got up to run away or fight with a man holding a gun). We don't know if anyone got out of bed and was then later told to "get back to bed" by Ronnie...

  • @FriendshipTown The police reports say that there were no signs of the bodies being moved nor were there signs that they were disturbed out of their sleeps.

  • @Midnightryder7 summer night?it was november not summer when ron killed his family!and here is the strange!why the neighboors didn't heard the gun shots?????perhaps ron was truly possesed and not under drugs!

  • @sarantos3 Hi, I think the neighbors did hear the gun shots and they called the police, however, it was too late for anybody to do anything; they were long dead before the cops finally showed up. I know it happened in the wee hours of a cold November morning.

  • @5277407 The police were called by someone in a bar where Ronnie went running in screaming about his parents being shot.

  • @Midnightryder7 there wasn´t neighborghs arround!!! and the murder of that family was real, the fact is that the paranormal activity, I don´t know...

  • @Midnightryder7 back then everyone was on drugs and high ...

  • When the girl was explaining the Red Room, she sounded like she was being held against her will to say what she did, she wasn't very convincing that it was just an ordinary room.

  • Or perhaps she was just nervous of the television cameras and stumbled on some of her words?

  • Well, yes maybe..... I don't know though, to me she sounded unconvincing..

  • CHRISTMAS EVE pranks?

  • Did you know that enraged viewers called after this segment aired to voice their displeasure? They were outraged, and this episode never aired again. People want to believe in the supernatural. They "can't handle the truth," if you will! :-)

  • I thought the public or society, from day one, thrived on "sensationalism?"

  • @lionhearted38 so whats in that video is a lie?

  • When you buy a house that is famous (whether the story is true or not) you have to expect tourist (or terrorist lol) Anyone that buys the house could make money charging people to tour the house. But I guess the town of amityville didn't want their town to be known to habor a haunted house. They didn't for this to happen to them. Amityville is a high class comunity that doesn't want to be known to be a town with a haunted house I guess.

  • That woman annoys me. "Trying to have a quiet evening at home". What did they honestly expect? IMO they're weirder than the people taking pictures. Buying a house where a whole family was brutally murdered and they knew it. That house should be a museum.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh harperusa, I don't mean for everyone to listen to me and bow down to me. Geez. I just think it would be awesome if that house was a museum or a B&B where you can stay, like the Borden's house in Fall River or the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. The Amityville house is too famous to be a private residence IMO. It isn't the only house in the world and the owners could make MILLIONS by opening it up for people to see, like the owners of other famous houses around the world have done.

  • Comment removed

  • you are so brilliant.

  • u know...the one place they don't show on tv is the basement... and that's where the "evil" came from

  • @lolabunny41378 They showed the red room. The one girl said she used to play with Alison and store toys in there.

  • One strange thing is that the front door in this movie clip is NOT the same door on pictures from the DeFeo-investigation.

  • You're right, I just looked at the photos and it's indeed a different door. Hmmmmmmm.

  • @BillyBoysing they maybe changed the door

  • @girlhouse43

I wouldn't have a problem living in the house now. It's a VERY pretty, large house. You can view the house on Google maps and rotate it (or even better in MS 3D maps). The present owners have completely finished off the basement and added an addition to the other side of the house. All 3rd story windows were replaced. There are many more houses in the neighborhood that 'look scarier.' You can't even recognize the house now...compared to the movie...you would drive past it.

  • PS Ronald Defeo, Jr. (the mass murder), David Roskin and Peter O'Neil were each the eldest son of their respective families. Another erie coincidence, or part of a larger pattern? You be the judge.

  • Ronnie Defoe isn't dead. If Ronnie Defoe were dead you would have a pattern as he isn't, adding him to your strange theory is irrelevant. If both of the first born sons that did die had died while a resident of the house you would have a coincidence but David Roskin never lived in the house.

There's nothing there, just two deaths in two families that both lived in a particular house a decade each.

  • Yeah, he did live in the house. The room with the infamous 1/4 moon windows was Roskin's bedroom. There's a picture floating around the net of him laying in the bed in that room. There are also newspaper articles from back when the Cromarty's lived there that clearly state he lived there, along with Jim Cromarty's two daughters.

  • @SimplyRisque

Like most second marriages, Roskin had a room in the house for when he visited. He never actually lived there as his permanent residence and he most certainly didn't die in the house.

  • LOL okay. Then I guess all the newspaper articles where his stepfather and mother were quoted talking about how they leave for work together in the morning and how he lived there, were false.

  • Nothing's happened to the current family (to my knowledge anyway). Plus it's odd the Cromarty's and O'Neills have each lived there a decade and the current owner has been there for 13 years now.

  • BTW the Cromarty Wife's son (David Roskin) died while they were living there between 1977 and 1987. The next family's, the O'Neils who lived there between 1987 and 1987, son (Peter) died in the twin towers on 9/11

  • Correlation is not causation, AR.

Put it this way, the odds of someone dying while I'm at my house in Canada are just as good as the odds of someone dying while I'm in my apartment in the States for work. Those odds also go up every year that I live in either residence.

This is because people die, and over a long period there's a better chance that people will die, it has nothing to do with someones place of residence.

  • Ditto who would want to live in that place with it's hellish reputation and hordes of tourists?

Those people were abnormal in my opinion.

  • all i think is that i would never live in that house not even for loads of money it scares the shit out of me

  • the whole story was made up by the lutz's to make some money.

Ron Defeo started the demon storys for the insanity plea. The family was under investigation for drugs.

  • If the aim was to make money, then why didn't the Lutzes sell the house? Or keep it and make it a tourist trap?

If this was a hoax, then the Lutzes were master con artists - having involved so many people and yet no one has stepped forward to say they were involved in the hoax. Except for lawyer Bill Weber, but his claim was made as he took the Lutzes to court to sue for "his share" - a claim he never did prove.

  • And why did the Lutzes only got a tiny percentage of the profits from the book and movie deals? A master con artist would make sure they got the lion's share.

Jay Anson sold the movie rights, much to the surprise of the Lutzes. Why weren't the Lutzes all over that?

And why create this elaborate hoax only to have it hinge on whether a book became a best-seller? When you really look into it all, the notion that the Lutzes did this all as a money-making scheme just doesn't add up.

  • Yes, Ronnie DeFeo was trying for an insanity plea -- but there was no mention of demons or ghosts or anything else like that during the trial. Ronnie said things like "God spoke to me" and mentioned that he heard voices (supposedly in his head, not demonic).

Years later Ronnie was interviewed by Hans Holzer for his book "Murder in Amityville." During which he talked about the house being haunted. Ronnie later said he told Holzer whatever he wanted to hear because he got paid for the interview.

  • The claim that the family was under investigation for drugs comes from Rick Moran, and he has absolutely NO evidence to back that up. He claims a mysterious informant phoned him up and gave him that info (which was conveniently used as evidence for another of Moran's wild claims).

These claims pointed to Moran's belief that Dawn helped kill the family and disposed of the rifle. But this is untrue, as Dawn was killed by that very same rifle.

  • @FriendshipTown Man this makes my head spin. I heard that Ronald DeFeo claimed a hooded black handed demon handed him the weapon. And one of the neighbors claimed he saw Dawn come out wearing that and getting rid of the rifle. So is it possible that more then one gun was in the house because I believe that Dawn killed the family and then Ronald killed her
