  • These videos helped me alot on doing my clutch job on my Talon..Thanks a bunch man..

  • Is it hard to convert an awd talon to a 5 speed? I cant see it being harder than rebuilding an engine! I can get a 98 buts its an auto.

  • @Matsci101 If you watch my latest video, the shifter install works pretty much the same way except you can use ALL factory bolt-in parts and they'll fit. I put a DSM shifter in a Colt. I've also installed a clutch pedal from a manual-transmission car, and I'm modifying the brake pedal to fit.

You will need everything from the gearbox to the back of the car because the gear ratios are completely different. I'd save the trouble and keep digging until you find a 5-speed.

  • This is a stock car and only has 68 thou on it. Its so hard to find a 5 speed, and the only ones I find a fwd with auto. So I figured I need to look further. The parts are there for sure!

  • @Matsci101 Heck with it man! Look up levelten dotcom. Click the Mitsubishi logo. Problem solved. LucasEnglish is layin' down 9's and 10's with a turbine about as big as a big16g with an auto 1g. I don't know who did his transmission work, but a lot can be said about a well-built auto trans. There really isn't much difference in price when you consider what a race built manual costs. It's far more consistent if you want to win money bracket racing. ;)

  • 100 % he can rebuild this vehicle from ground out with his eyes closed !

  • o and v3 dsm link

  • Now I m thinking about waiting til i get some more money for a lsd..I m not sure were to go from here I just purshased a forced performance hta68w/open dump, 680cc 255pump, coil over ignition, ets front mount, act2100w/flywheel, evo3 intake and some other goodies but I m afraid I will destroy this stock7bolt..You seem to be the dsm man to me on here so please share your wisdom!

  • great vid for noobs like me!!! I just received flywheel and clutch for my 2g fwd after watching your vids i now have the confidence to do this GJ man

  • @ClocksR1 It's time to turn that confidence into experience!

Work smart man! A lot of that shit is really heavy, but you can doo eeet!

One thing I didn't cover was removing and installing the flywheel. Mitsubishi has a crank alignment tool that braces off the lower control arm to hold the crank still from the timing side (if the engine's still in the car). There are cheap equivalents, expensive ones, too. Crankshaft just has to stay put while you put 98 'lbs on all of your flywheel bolts.

  • @ClocksR1 Found it. Go to ebay. Search 4g63 crank tool. It works on 7-bolts and helps you properly-torque your new flywheel on. (ツ) b

  • nice

  • Very nice video! Very well explained and putting the torque specs in the video makes it even better. If every diy video was like this, everyone could be a mechanic haha

    keep it up man

  • would this be the same for a 1g

  • @dsm712 The crossmembers are different, and a 2g has 3 mounts on the trans-1 on the engine... while 1g's have 3 mounts on the engine and 1 on the trans.

Otherwise, everything else in this entire video series applies to the 1g.

  • I'm trying to get my transmission mated back on my engine on a 97 Galant, which is really similar to a dsm, so do you have any tips for doing this? I don't really understand how you are using the long bolts as "guide bolts." I also left the crossmember on but maybe this is just making it harder?

  • @FrancisTheGook Did you use the alignment tool when bolting your clutch plates onto the flywheel?

The guide bolt thing... All it does is line up the bell housing to the block. If you have those lined up, the only way it can fight you is if the clutch disc is not aligned. It could be rotated so that the splines aren't lining up. In that case, try to turn the crank a tad from the crank pulley side. If it still doesn't line up, something's wrong with the clutch alignment.

  • @Jafromobile

Thanks for the tip with the transmission, I finally got it in and bolted up! Now I have one more problem, my passenger side driveaxle isn't snapping into the transmission completely. The snap ring seems to be fine, but it just won't go in. Any way to resolve this?

  • Thanks man! you sir saved the day for my hahah

  • Man love this video u male it so easy, how long it take. i wanna be like that good like u man.

  • @Fmiguelify I can install a transmission in less than 2 hours without breaking a sweat if nobody's filming. If someone starts filming, 4 hours... I can't give away all my secrets. :P

...and actually it IS easy, just lots of steps. They're all right here if you have an AWD 2g.

  • 4:47. the demon awakens. lmfao!!!!!!!!!

  • fixed the clutch peddle but where does the gear oil go? on transferre case and transmission

  • @john1990andterri It's in the 7th video in this series. I cover the full AWD driveline fluids draining and filling.

Also known to YouTube server as video # JjlpuCdQkh8 but if you can't find it, go back to my main channel and scroll through the vids. You'll see it. :)

  • hey i have a 1st gen talon 6 bolt motor clutch fork snapped and took trans out and back in now but peddle stills goes to the floor does anyone know why its doing this please let me know thanks

  • stop: using metric bolts on a dodge! And stop mixing foot-pounds with metric bolts. Believe me, I made the same mistake a couple times and it has bitten me!

  • I'm not allowed to click on my ads... but I swear I want to click to play Angry Birds online so badly right now... and I don't know why. I'd better not click.... this is so difficult...

  • Dude I love u vids!!

  • Amazing work! You provided lots of cool little hints to help me out with my 97 GSX. Thanks a lot.

  • greeting jafro. i finish installing my new act lighten flywheel, act street disc, pivot ball, and clutch fork. now i can't get my car into gear when the car is on. but when it is off it goes into gear fine. i bleed the system, adjusted the master all the way in and out and still no help. any idea on what to look at next???

    thanks

  • @theredejvtec Wow, that's hard to gauge from over the internets, but there's only a select few things that could be wrong. Always start with the basics.

Do you still have the clutch accumulator on your car or have you bypassed it w/a SS clutch line?

Are you getting full-actuation of the clutch fork? Where is the fork lining up in the fork hole?

Back the rod all the way out until we get it working. It moves more fluid. You can also raise the pedal by adjusting the clutch switch.

  • @Jafromobile answer1. ss clutch line- answer2. yes and fork is towards driverside- answer3. i haven't tried the clutch switch but I doubt that will help. if all fails i might have to redo the job. thanks jafro i'll get back to you if i get it fixed.

  • @theredejvtec

You have to chim the pressure plate against the flywheel mounts!

  • @mazpr2025 i think you're right. I redid everything by myself, same process and everything but for some weird reason it just work. The only think i did different was tighten the flywheel more and made sure the pressure plate was moving okay. Thanks for the help!

  • jaf you should encourage recycling like the kitty litter let the cat use it first then use it for spills.....lol

  • Is it wrong that I check YouTube.com daily for no other reason than to see if Jafro posted a new video?

  • I can't wait to see this run again!

    ProjectCarTV

  • I don't even own a DSM but enjoy your videos for the attention to detail and general ideas to use on my own car. Great stuff!

  • you should do a how-to on bleeding the clutch system.

  • I had the same coolant temp. sensor wire break off during my transmission/engine removal. Do you have a list of cars that I could find a replacement to snag off?

  • @cal64us Nearly all OBD-II Mitsubishi-powered cars built between 1994-2003 use the same coolant temperature sensor. So that goes for anything with a Mitsubishi powerplant. That connector can be found on Hyundais, Mitsubishi, Eagle... from the Eagle Summit, Talon, Vision... Mitsubishi Expo, Galant, Eclipse, 3000GT, Diamante, a few Dodge's, and even some Caterpillar forklifts. Look at the connector, then walk a junkyard, and you'll lol. Won't leave empty-handed. Suspect all that have a 4gxx.

  • Great vid once again my friend. I gotta stop slacking and get to filming as well. I have a bunch of goodies for my 2g this coming up season and I hope I can catch all of 'em on "tape."

  • @jjrock5 coming up season?!?!?!? It's already started without me! Track opened yesterday and I'm waiting for UPS to bring me my #%^* fluids. They hit their warehouse Friday. I was here all day yesterday going tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap...

    You'd better get rollin'!

  • Another great vid man, you gotta gettem up faster !!!

  • @Doubi19 heheh. I wish I could do this for a living. It doesn't pay.

I'm editing 1080i HD from tape for the sake of quality, but the converse end of that process is time. I had a ton of audio problems with this one that took a week to resolve, and had already re-used the tape... so I had to just work with what I had. It takes 4-5 times longer to edit than to do the job, and hours of moving stuff around to setup shots. This camera is enormous and so are the file sizes.

    But yeah, I hear ya!

  • nice videos! ive seen every one of your vids at least 2 times!

  • lol Caboose is guna rub his butt on ur pillow for stealing his litter
