  • But Nintendo had awesome lawyers (mario) lol

  • Nintendo's lawyer was who they named Kirby after, Jack Kirby. No relation to the

    comic book artist

  • @MrAvalerin yeah but some say kirby was named after Jack kirby

  • @errandboy965 They named Kirby after a vacuum cleaner at the time.

  • PWND

    0:42

  • very nice

  • "The giant monkey was stubborn like a donkey. 'Kong' was slang for huge in Japan."

Does that mean (in a way) that Donkey Kong's name mean that he's a huge ass?

  • HAHA! They tried to sue, but ended up losing money?? How the fuck! XD

  • the lawyer they used was named kirby

so kirby was named as a tribute to the lawyer or a parody of the Kirby brand vacuum

shigeru forgot y they named him that

  • Fry: Wait a second. I know that monkey his name is Donkey

Professor Farnsworth: Monkeys aren't donkeys. Quit messing with my head!

  • Fry: Wait a second. I know that monkey his name is Donkey

Professor Farnsworth: Monkeys aren't donkeys. Quit messing with my head

  • EPIC!

  • The animation reminds me of el tigre.

  • I thought they named him Kong for "monkey," not for huge. Considering that all the Kongs I know of a monkeys.

  • stuff2o: he is was called DONKEY because nintendo of america (when they were translating it) thought that japan said Donkey, not monkey. THAT'S why you thought.

  • Ok I think I saw the way of the animation from a tv show,

    Nice one by the way

  • They through a party at the empire state building omfg lmfao XD.

  • lol

  • I thought Donkey meant dumb

  • no ... where do u live cus it may mean something els where u live

  • Umm... The United States. I thought it said that on a video game documentary.

  • this reminds me of fosters lol

  • Awesome Lawyer = one Mr. John Kirby, as a reward for winning the case he was awarded to exclusive rights to name boats after Donkey Kong, also the character of Kirby may have been named after him, but Sakurai doesn't remember

  • Another was Howard Lincoln, as a reward he became president of Nintendo of America.

  • But Nintendo had awesome lawyers.

  • this totally deserves to be on G4

  • kong is slang for gorilla or ape

  • U should make more videos like this. People would love it!

  • haha that was awesome, the way the story was told, the music, animation, colors, EVERYTHING!!!

  • 0:43 owned! XD

  • @EvilCrash3000 best symbolism in video game history

  • I watched it on the DVD. Love love LOVED IT!!! So beautiful. I would love to see an official Mario game with your stylings of the characters. It's such a fresh and fun take on that world.

  • Awesome

  • I loooove Pauline!

  • I'm pretty sure that he wanted to name it "Stubborn Gorilla", but he flipped through a Japanese-English dictionary...

    Donkey = Stubborn

    Kong = Gorilla

That's what it said in the Guiness World Records: Gamer's Edition...

  • LOL!!!! Its Like The Funnist Part Where Nintendo guy hada gun to his head! Not To Mention Mario Smashing Universal KingKong! WHAMM!!!! XDDDD

  • Lmao XD

I had wondered that for a long time.

  • That was funny

  • Well, munchlaxluvr11, Gabe Swarr was one of the storyboard artists for the production of El Tigre.

  • "...but Nintendo had awesome lawyers"

    lol

  • I love this!

  • i really mean it this this is awsome!!!!!

  • Well done!

  • Sorry about the misspelling on the last comment. It was supposed to say "cartoons with you".

  • this looks like something out of El Tigre.

  • I THINK that Gabe worked on El Tige, but I'm not too sure. That could be the reason.

  • That is great! All of your work is great, GabeSwarr! Someday, I want to work on coartoons woth you and your staff members!

  • lol, short 'n' sweet- I love this movie! Pretty funny too, and it was pretty much all true (except the empire state building part, but you admitted that wasn't true :P)

  • I love the kid shaking his hips back and forth!

  • Great video, but the most ironic part of all is that unlike what the video says, Universal DIDNT own the rights to King Kong, and actually used the fact that King Kong was public domain to win a previous court case, which made Nintendo's defense a slam dunk.

Aside form that, the court found that DK wasn't a rip off of King Kong in the first place, but a legitimate parody.

This is all in the book "Game Over" by David Sheff.

  • Great!

  • I hate "awesome lawyers" but this animation is totally cool!

  • Donkey kong > king Kong.

  • The guy with the gun should of had a nintendo light gun zapper.

  • lol! XD i <3 pauline and mario! XD

  • That was cool. You're pretty awesome, Gabe. And congrats for the launch of your Big Pants Mouse strips at Dumm Comics.

  • is this true?? i think so

  • except the party.

  • i thought donkey kong was just mis translated because it was supposed to be monkey kong

  • I luved the credits music.

  • when Miyamoto presented DK's name to Nintendo of America, they actually laughed at him :( but look who's laughing NOW >=D

  • Thats not why it was called Donkey Kong..it was an error on the print becuase it was supposed to be "Monkey Kong"

  • lol monkey kong XD XD XD XD*falls off chair*

  • No, it was called Donkey Kong because (according to Pauline) he's got a massive wanger.

  • WAH?

  • no its not, that is an old rumor debunked years ago

  • and by that, i ment the rumor that the game was supposed to be called "monkey kong" but was changed to Donkey Kong due to a faxing or copying error, thats not true

  • I read that Miyamoto used Kong as a reference to King Kong and Donkey because he was looking for an adjective that meant foolish or just dumb.
