I believe that people want those departments because they have been conditioned over 2 or 3 generations to expect them. Paul is trying to educate people that when government gets involved in running every part of their lives, and despite the best intentions, they make mistakes. I don't know about his uncle's farm, but the point I'm sure is that we don't need the government to ENFORCE what we do or don't do to our bodies. You're an adult; educate yourself and drink the milk if you want.

However, I (along with the vast majority of Americans) are quite relieved (and generally pleased) to have food inspection, minimum safety standards, emergency response, national parks, highway system, etc. This is beyond "conditioning" -- this is the preference of having an impartial and public good/service available for all and without question or consequence...

Bush may have lowered the taxes, but he expanded the size of the federal government immensely. Taxing corporations will only lead to more outsourcing which is one of the big problems in the country. Taxing businesses = more restrictions for business, which does nothing but hurt the economy. Exec checks comes from the fear of the unstable economy, not just greed.

Now its 300 to 1, due to the size of the federal government. When theres more jobs, theres more competition for workers, so theres higher wages.

@jemslayer3 I am pretty sure the I Ching did not proceeded the Tao Te Ching JemSlayer. I enjoyed the strategy and tactics in the Art Of War, but I found the philosophy the Tao Te Ching and Buddhism to be more profound. They can revolutionize the way that someone perceives the world. If you we can't change the world, we can change the way we perceive it. Can't under estimate meditation, this is a central practice in each philosophy (intellectual understanding just doesn't cut it).

@jemslayer3 I'm really appreciating the dialogue with you. :) The direct translation of Buddha is to "be awake." To be fully present and aware in this very moment. No, the Buddha did not claim, and is not held to be a god, whatsoever. People bow as a sign of respect (common in most Asian cultures).
As far as meditation, I do meditate. Focusing on one's breath isn't as easy as some would think. The mind loves to wander. I also love yoga because it incorporates meditation into physical exercise.

I believe that people want those departments because they have been conditioned over 2 or 3 generations to expect them. Paul is trying to educate people that when government gets involved in running every part of their lives, and despite the best intentions, they make mistakes. I don't know about his uncle's farm, but the point I'm sure is that we don't need the government to ENFORCE what we do or don't do to our bodies. You're an adult; educate yourself and drink the milk if you want.

@MasterOfSparks You obviously never have taken an econ class. The job market has "sucked" ever since the bubble burst in 08. Bush may have lowered the taxes, but he expanded the size of the federal government immensely. Taxing corporations will only lead to more outsourcing which is one of the big problems in the country. Taxing businesses = more restrictions for business, which does nothing but hurt the economy. Exec checks comes from the fear of the unstable economy, not just greed.

@MasterOfSparks I've know TBOAS. Its valid but you obviously havent read what I wrote. I agree that there should be *some* regulations for business, but currently our government is way too big. If you cant see that, well, I'm not surprised. You cant take the greed out of CEO's. But whats killing the economy is the partnership of the corporation and government. Its the lack of control IN THE GOVERNMENT thats the problem. TBAS, while a valid article, is not enough to explain our current situation.

You have to realize that theres always going to be a top 1%. But, during the days in which the federal government was smaller, exec bonuses were 30 to 1. Now its 300 to 1, due to the size of the federal government. When theres more jobs, theres more competition for workers, so theres higher wages.

Every politician (besides RP) wants to increase the size of the gov because by increasing the size of the government you further constrict the economy. It creates an uneven playing field because only the people at the top 1% GET power and only the people at the top 1% KEEP the power. By restricting the size of the economy, you restrict the ability for people to rise and fall on the social ladder.

CEO's and business owners have always been greedy and always will - its a constant factor. As we tax more, it becomes harder for businesses to create jobs. Theres less production. As the gov prints more money, our dollar becomes less and less valuable. Thats why we're in the shits we are in. Class dismissed.

Paul talks about denying the government the ability to erode the value of currency when they print fiat money. He also talks about stopping the socialisation of debt through bank bailouts; which means that ordinary workers would not be penalised for the recklessness of corporations that would fail in the truly free market he describes.

I enjoyed the strategy and tactics in the Art Of War, but I found the philosophy the Tao Te Ching and Buddhism to be more profound. They can revolutionize the way that someone perceives the world. If you we can't change the world, we can change the way we perceive it. Can't under estimate meditation, this is a central practice in each philosophy (intellectual understanding just doesn't cut it).

@jemslayer3 I'm really appreciating the dialogue with you. :) The direct translation of Buddha is to "be awake." To be fully present and aware in this very moment. No, the Buddha did not claim, and is not held to be a god, whatsoever. People bow as a sign of respect (common in most Asian cultures).
As far as meditation, I do meditate. Focusing on one's breath isn't as easy as some would think. The mind loves to wander. I also love yoga because it incorporates meditation into physical exercise.
