The Celtics were on their way to building a whole team by the time Bird arrived. Maravich never had such a luxury.
I must reiterate because you keep forgetting/ignoring: this is a TEAM sport. Great players are only as successful as the team surrounding them. Have you ever considered that just maybe the Hawks and Jazz were simply that bad in the '70s?
Also, I hope you know you can reply directly to my comments instead of making me think you're trying to hide.
its sad pistol didn't win a championship before he passed away. I think the next year the celtics, the last team he played for, won the nba championship. That makes it worse.

see when bird came into the league,he took a 22 win and truned it into a contender the 1st yr.pete wasnt that kind of an impact player.he put butts in the seats but he could not impose his will on a game and dominate, and this is fact.if so,his wins and losses would reflect that.
well pete said out of his own mouth that his thing was to entertain 1st and foremost, thats not to say he didnt want to win,but he was not a dominant all around player.i never put him in a 'big man' catagory.you did.i just said his main thing was flash.
my point is that he was a basically only a showman,NOT a complete ball player in terms of defense rebounding etc. he scored and made flashy passes, thats basically it.i know basketball very well.
You forget: he's also a point guard, a position that calls mainly for ball handling and getting teammates involved. If you expect big man type of play from a guy like him, I still need to question your knowledge of the game.
If you believe that, you have no understanding of basketball whatsoever. No matter how great one player is, it's still a TEAM sport. It's not Maravich's fault he got stuck on bad teams; had he joined the Celtics sooner he'd most likely have a ring or three.
dr.j is basically talking about how to use the triple threat situation(shoot, pass,or drive to the basket) once you get the ball

Also, dismissing him as a showman simply because of his scoring and passes ignores the fundamental importance of those elements to winning.

I think Dwyane Wade needs to get a paternity test done on Bob Dandridge! Look at the shape of his face!
Someone get Maury on the phone!

Must have been taped at The Milwaukee Arena
during the all-star game weekend in February of 1977. Ervings first NBA all-star game.
