  • Out of all the Russian folk music I've heard throughout my lifetime, this one is DEFINITELY my all-time favorite. (I first heard this when I was in middle school, it's been 25 years since.) SOOO free-spirited and yet, SOOO full of life and gusto!!! Thanks for uploading. Though I'm not Russian, but one-half of me is Polish, Slovak and Ukrainian, MNOGOYA L'ETA (many years) !!!!! ;-)

  • I remember this song from Tetris for Mac 128K and I am damn glad that I found it finally.

  • does anyone know what this song actually is about?

  • @msgr33nday Basically about a merchant , selling fabric, haberdashery, books and other small things. It's a story about the love between a peasant girl, and a young peddler. They meet each other in a rye field at night where he has promised her a good deal on the goods he carries, but she is not so simple and does not take any of the goods which he offers her. What is the point, she figures, to have all that without him ? She takes only a small turquoise ring, as a memory.

  • @MusicOrCoffee thanks a lot for this detailed description! cool. makes me like the song even more =)

  • Now i understand why MiG-21 was called "Flying balalaika" :D

  • Oh, my crate is so full,

I've got chintz and brocade. Take pity, oh sweety, Of this lad's shoulder

I will, I will go out into the tall rye, I will wait there till the night comes, Once I see the dark-eyed lass, I will showcase all my goods.

I paid no small price myself, So don't bargain or be stingy, Bring your scarlet lips to me, Sit closer to this fine lad.

The foggy night has already come, The daring lad is awaiting, Hark, it's her! The desired one has come,

  • Because teh theme from Tetris is made from this:P

  • LOL, I figure it out =^-^=

  • Comment removed

  • The Theme from Tetris is based on this folk song.

  • Naproxenum, the creator of Tetris used this song as the theme. That is why you think it sounds the same.... Oh ya, Tetris was originaly created it Russia which would be the reason for using this song.

  • the song is called "korobeiniki" not korobushka. the song is about a peddler ( or rather a type of peddler referred to as korobeiniki) and his interaction with a customer; Katya.

  • It can also be called Korobushka. It's in two lines; "Oy polnym polna mоya Korobushka" and "Oy legka legka Korobushka", but never once is Korobeiniki actually spoken, which is why some people call it Korobushka. But if there is only one correct name then yes, Korobeiniki is it.

  • thank you for the information/ correction, it is appreciated very much...yes, korobushka is also valid, as it means "little basket"or "peddlers pack", which is what the Korobeiniki carried their wares in. again, thank you for that.

  • TETRIS!!!!!!!!!

  • Well yeah. Since Tetris is a Russian game (was still the Soviet Union by the time the game was developped if I'm correct) it's kinda normal to have russians songs in it !

  • Its the only melody known to russians^^
