  • BRILLIANT

  • NICE. I SUPPORT BROTHER

  • king crimson, mahavishnu rochestra, SBB, Yes... It's very important to save prog rock ! So we must to support @

  • listen to Ozric Tentacles and Melting Euphoria on the youtube very underrated prog rock and they are like Mahavishnu orchestra inclined towards eastern mysticism.

  • i have every respect for robert fripp but he does remind me of my old history teacher, he's sort of an anti-rockstar

  • Why are you replying to me? I dont think I've left a comment here???

  • Oh I dont know, I wouldnt mind being married to Toyah.

  • I think of of Toyah as a smokin' hot version of Yoko.

  • at ease, mars volta has already saved it

  • Hey you prog poser, that's "The" Mars Volta :-)! I will say this about The Mars Volta, they are certainly original.

  • I wan't trying to be a technical dick, but i know every little detail behind their concept albums and have followed them back since the beginning of atdi

  • @fkappreciative What about bands like Spock's Beard, Phideaux Xavier, Coheed and Cambria and Porcupine Tree?

  • also, you are correct about being a prog poser, I'm only familiar with the more mainstream prog bands such as "The" (lol) Mars volta and king crimson, would like to find more good stuff but it's hard to come by these days and that's alot of digging.. suggestions?

  • Hey, Fripp is allowed to be a good househusband if he wants... he'd BETTER be, with that sweet hot thang he married.

"Prog" never went anywhere. It's always been around. During the 80s it resided on college radio and in punk and new wave. During the 90s it was there in the background. It's still here... although most of the bands called "prog" now don't interested me that much. Give me analog or give me death!

  • I like more ambient, dark psychedelic prog stuff around today like Tool, Pain of Salvation and Porcupine Tree. The more technically proficient bands out there who call themselvs "prog" are good too, but don't truly define Prog in my mind.

  • hey man im with you.But my true prog love is bands like King Crimson,Pink Floyd ,Hawkwind or Mars Volta, u know jazz influence and as for neo-prog I like muse and Mystery Jets as well as some by coheed and cambria...and of course I like some tool...although i don't define it Prog-Metal, but hey Im not in charge here lol.

  • Meh . . . Tool is actually the definitive example of what prog should be in my opinion. But then again it's just an opinion. Speaking of which, I heard Tool's guitarist Adam Jones teamed up with Bob Fripp recently and layed down some really awesome tracks. Hope that sees the light of day at some point!

  • I've seen Crimson twice recently and was impressed. I was, however, very disappointed when I went to see Fripp's solo "new-age" music tour. The music was okay, it's just that in 3D, Fripp is a narcissistic jerk. He had a Q&A halfway through the show and basically dissed everybody that had a question. He was absolutely rude and insulting. Many folks walked out on him in disgust. I'll never spend a nickel on him again.

  • Amen, Gare. I was a fanboy of KC's 70's period and was thrilled when Fripp came to my area on the Thrak tour in '95. I was shocked when he spent the entire concert hiding in the dark at the rear of the stage. He is the musical equivilent of a prom queen cock tease.

  • Maybe he's just sick and tired of people treating him like a god and is simply showing his fustration.

  • Maybe. I'd like to believe that. But I get the feeling that Fripp gets off on the worship of fans and gets off again by crapping on them. He certainly does all he can to play up the mystique. "Please, refrain from flashe photographie during the concerte. The artiste's craft requires complete concentration." Is he a musician or a trapeze artist?

  • Flash photography is a distraction no matter what performance you choose. It's not just a distration to trapeze artists.

Seriously, would a surgeon be able to perform an operation with cameras flashing him and blinding him?

Can a musician focus on his instrument with people flashing cameras without notice? The photographer's not gonna ask a musician to stop and stay still so he can get the best shot...so any flash is bound to disorient a musician.

  • Oh....kay. This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. Playing guitar, even slightly tricky bits like the ones Mr. Fripp is known for, is not surgery.

I don't take issue with the prohibition against flash photos - I find them distracting as a member of the audience. I take issue with Mr. Fripp for sitting at the rear of the stage with no lights on him.

Playing golf well takes incredible concentration. Would it be okay for Tiger Woods to hide behind a screen when he played?

  • It's about people have different preferences. You would be surprised at how insecure people are to photos.

I'm not really defending Fripp, but realize that people have different beliefs and preferences.

Some people choose not to talk at all during shows. Springsteen, on the other hand, can talk for minutes before playing

Frank Zappa for instance, was one of the only artists I know who actually kept reminding audiences to calm down every now and then, as it might block potential fire exits.

  • Gentle Giant! I prefer the Canterbury Era of prog but Symphonic is great too!

  • There are great prog bands today in all the world:

Venezuela: Pig Farm on the Moon, Raimundo Rodulfo,...

    Israel: Trespass,...

USA:Glass Hammer, the Tangent,Niacin, California Gitar Trio,...

UK: Oliver Wakeman, Nolan & Wakeman, Magnum,...

Sweden: the Flower Kings, Par Lindh Project,...

    Japan: Hiromi, Ars Nova,...

  • You forgot two really prominent USA prog bands around today: Dream Theater and Tool.

As for Sweden; You failed to Mention Meshuggah, Paion Of Salvation, and Opeth. I'm sure there are more, but y'know . . .

  • Thts metallish...

  • And yet, still very prog if you give them a listen.

  • Ok but that's maybe the problem with new-prog artists, they are forgeting the jazz feel, and making metallica and rush influences...Hey I like it...but not massively.Too much metal bands, and less Neo.progressive rock, the only Prog Rock is getting alternative, and people are beginning to dislike it.

  • rush! :D

  • Sure prog is alive and kicking in Europe, the Americas, Japan. Never saw so many bands and labels and magazines. But the public remains tiny. The times are changing... and the 70's far away!

Thierry (Acid Dragon magazine & Silver Lining's) singer)

  • But never forget the 70's man...Thats the essence and birth man...

  • The only thing that can save PROG, is the consciousness, that the world exists of more then the already known borders!!!

PROG was, is and will be always part of the system.

Not the King but it is as important then any other element in music - like every human who can think of it - or not.

    oh, and very funny video

    :)

  • Progressive rock is not gone. There still exist several pockets of this genre in the world. Like Half Past Four from Toronto, and Magenta from Cardiff. Veneto West Records from Marina Del Rey is a progressive label, experts at finding today's prock bands. Also, I agree, if Fripp wants to stay home with his wife and wash dishes, then let him, by god, the man has worked for over 30 years making the best music ever, cut him some slack, he deserves it.

  • Not henpecked. It is called cooperation. Does your mum do all your dirty undies still?

  • Robert Fripp can do whatever he pleases, thank you very much. It doesn't make a hill of beans' difference; progressive rock has been on the skids since 1977, IMO...but it will NEVER die. Listen to the new Mew record! or Mars Volta! Prog isn't going anywhere, so Fripp, carry on with whatever it is you do! A pioneer deserves it.

  • Yeh but prog in the foreground of Rock media and popularity is unfortunately over for now. I wish progbands would get to play on late night TV like the bands that suck doggy doo. FRIPP is a progGod. I agree, he can do what ever he wants. He playing is incredible

  • Umphrey's McGee is the savior of Prog!

  • Haha, I found this because Fripp linked to it from his diary. He finds it to be "A bona hoot".

  • Well, maybe not a cook show. Maybe something worse

  • My point EXACTLY. Fripp on a cook show = disgrace to a genre.

  • I have this....it is from a BBC series about prog (4 episodes with the most influencial prog bands) I think too it was cozy to see fripp and his wife!!

Prog on!! ....and check out www.metrognom.com

  • The other video is Larks' Tongues in Aspic Part 1, with "Birdman" Muir on percussion.

  • very good...wher was the second clip from?

  • Prog rock is becoming a ghost style...

    Let'S save our prog.

  • Prog has changed and gained a huge underground audience over the last 10 years, especially in the "brutal prog" category. As for Fripp, I'd really like to see the rest of that video with his wife.

  • Was that Toyah Wilcox with him there?

  • yes that was toyah mrs. fripp wilcox there

  • BTW, I hope Windows Vista's sound themes by Fripp whips some llama's ass FOR REAL lol

  • I wish Fripp would reunite with the '72 band...I miss the mellotron.

  • Ozzy Osbourse fans should be MORE worried....

  • BINGO! ;)

  • The Mars Volta, Dream theatre and MAny bands to come shall Save Prog-Rock

  • I think you might have missed the joke.

  • LOL. That was amazing.

  • Fripp is still cool.

  • jajaj un video divertido, pero eso de salvar el prog le toka a Dream Theater
