  • I would have to say that a true actor is not a performer in that way.. Before I go out on stage I go through a process of becoming another person that is on the same sacred primitive level as neurosis. A true actor feels every emotion in full effect or it IS bullshit. Neurosis helps me get to that place

  • @ivilai3d fuck off dude! Great music is never rushed or created in a year or even 3 years and plus they just enter the studio so fuck off!

  • Ok, your goal is to create music, so where the hell is a new album??

  • I always loved this band but on the numerous run ins I had with Von Till he has been such a prick and a "Rock Star"... didn't know he thought like a hippie for real either

  • hey his teeth aren't knocked out in this one. i wonder what happened.

  • Since birth i've been listening to this band...And I'm still not sick of them.

  • 6:36 shitty crowd....

  • pure.

  • GREATEST BAND AROUND...

  • the song at 3:34 is not crawl back in

  • @Bisaflor82

They fucked up a bunch of times, they called falling unknown stones from the sky

  • @Bisaflor82 I noticed that too

  • man, what an interview! they have GREAT things to say. it's too bad their music does nothing for me. it just makes me feel stagnant and miserable. i've heard them since the early 90's, and many of my friends worshiped them (Scott Kelly lives in the same town we do). love a night of them live... but can't listen to them at home. drains me.

  • @caseyforever That's cool though, Neurosis is definitely something that isn't for everyone. When I first saw them live I was somewhat dismayed by the bleakness and repetition of the music, coupled with the images being projected. It was like the evil twin of psychedelia without the hippie love and sunshine. I didn't know what to think, I was disturbed. Then I loved them. But I get you though. I've tried to get into the Swans but I just don't like them, but still respect them for their influence

  • THE REALS ROCK STARS ...!

  • much respect for neurosis

  • I'm not a metal fan, per se, but I think I have an ear for genius when I hear it. These guys are genius. I wouldn't say that about any other metal band.

  • @shadowheart52 meshuggah

  • @pulsating123 fuck yeah

  • Wow! I'm surprised this was actually sent in SVT, which otherwise is a shitty Swedish channel with cheesy programs (with a few exceptions.)

    Great interview!

  • 6:30 - 6:50 - most bands can't understand this nowadays.

  • I thought I've stumbled on a band so deep (Neurosis) that it had no cretinous & primitive fans. After reading some of the comments here, I thought wrong.

  • @breakmillion Life is just one big dissapointment after the other....

  • your mom is sucking right now.

  • Shut up faggot. They are better now.

  • Is it me or is 3:35 NOT Crawl Back In?

  • what is the song at 3:09

  • @Deathmaker2354 "Eye"

  • At 6:22, this video shows why Neurosis is one of the most important bands ever.

  • Neurosis is godlike. and btw, I'm trying to grow my beard just like Scott Kelly's in this video :-)

  • There are many bands and many genre's of music, but only one Neurosis, and they'll always be in a class of their own. Music but much more than that.

  • Scott Kelly have started to look a bit scrubby on recent years. He looks very different now from what he does in this video...

  • Yeah, its somewhat sad, I really worry for his health, both mental and physical.

  • life has a way of taking its toll on people.

  • I dont, thats what age does to you.

They look like mountain men nowadays.

    full of soul.

  • Just saw Scott front row @ a shrinebuilder show. He looked fine.

  • totally, keeping in mind, they're playing shows and on tour when these interviews are taken (the "scruffier" ones in particular) and no one looks good when they live in a wee van :)

  • True Masters

  • he looks a bit like johnny knoxville

  • The Gods of modern music. This is where we are today music

  • Then you must be remedial if you didn't understand what I said.

Creativity is what makes an artist, not monotony.

  • "Crawl Back In" is really "Falling Unknown". Come on!

  • Wow lots of brilliant commentary on the nature of music performance, and writing music.

  • Neurosis are genius, true artists, masters of their music. This is a band who can make their music burn into your brain.Take "a sun that never sets" The first time I heard it I almost went into a trance..........WOW,Incredible musicians.

  • The real essence of pre genius flows through each one of these guys' souls...

  • Thanks so much for posting this.

  • Thanks for posting! I love Neurosis. I very much like how honest their music is. They put so much in their craft, and I really appreciate the music they create.

  • I just got a Through Silver In Blood today. Great piece of art. This is a magnificent band, great musicians who sadly enough, their music in my opinion is very underrated and does not get the recognition it deserves. It just goes to show you how true these guys are to themselves, just doing what they love... if thats not inspiration for ya, god knws what is.

  • i really liked neurosis before viewing this interview, their music, the emotion, the raw fuckin power... after this... holy fuck. SO much respect to these amazing musicians. absolutely what musicians are suppose to be.

  • can you see the look on scotts face in the live clip of locust star its like he is in his own pycholigical trance and hes spewing this energy out on the crowd

  • Out of the dozen or so times I've seen Neurosis live, there have been 4 occasions where Mr. Scott Kelly has intentionally smashed his forehead into a mic or mic stand, bloodying himself. This is a man dedicated to the intensity of his craft. My guitar hero.

  • Ive never seen them i would give anything to see them

  • Just saw these guys on Saturday at the Scion Rock Fest...fucking amazing. Best show I've ever seen, and so damn LOUD!! It was actually loud enough that I had trouble breathing (I know that doesn't make sense but it's true). I wish Mastodon would have played before instead of after them, though; it really wrecked the mood after the Neurosis set

  • the best band ever.

saw them the first time at iguanas in

    tijuana mexico,opening for mr bungle.

a few weeks before souls at zero released.

i still havent gotten over that show.

am bleessed to call them brothers.

hope to see them again one day.

  • this is really fantastic interview with them, thanks man. They come across as really intelligent, which im sure they are.

  • It's so rare to find musicians who can take themselves seriously without sounding pretentious. I probably wouldn't like heavy/brutal music at all were it not for Neurosis.

  • It's an obvious choice but through silver in blood is still the best album for me, heard it when i was 15 and was totally blown away, never heard anything like it, im 27 now and still listening to it loads. Pain of mind is a close second favourite.

  • scott kelly is the johnny cash of metal

  • Haha I was just thinking the same thing earlier today.

  • sweet, lets give it up for the phenomenal band shall we

    \ooo/neurosis\ooo/

  • I bought "Given to the Rising" a month ago and ive been listening to it over and over again for days. Absolutly awesome. I learned about them and High on Fire after I started listening to Mastodon. My three favorite bands.

  • If you like them you should checkout Rwake, they are on the same label (Relapse).

  • If you love Given to the Rising, I recommend that you go out and pick up copies of A Sun That Never Sets and The Eye Of Every Storm in the next twenty to thirty seconds.

And yeah, Mastodon rules. I actually got into them through Neurosis. Scott Kelly does some totally kickass guest spots on Leviathan and Blood Mountain, too.

  • ill have to get them off the internet, theyre not exactly easy to find where i live. (and ill check out Rwake)

  • ...In addition, intellectual and with immense integrity! Awesome.

  • Intellectual metal musicians. Refreshing, no?

  • Well they're not playing thrash metal so they're automatically built with some shred of intellegence.

  • I think that's a bit unfair. I LOVE thrash as well as experimental metal, et;al. For instance if you want an example of intelligent thrash listen to a few Dave Mustaine interviews. The man is quite well spoken, whatever one may think of him personally.

  • Where can I see that video of ''A Season in the sky'' features in the video?

  • It´s actually the video for "From where its roots run",for some reason they put a different song over the video.

  • I've been listening to neurosis for a few days straight now, trying to get into it, just not being able to break that surface for some reason. after watching this interview, i think it'll happen. profound respect for these guys.

  • Yeah it took me about a year to totally get into them and fully understand what they were about, now Im neck deep and loving it.

  • at 5:17 is the most violent piece of music you'll ever see and hear. the masters. no bullshit here.

  • von till from 6.23 - 6.54: one of the reasons why i love this band so much!

ive seen them yesterday and it was just like he says here. no performance, just music. i was standing in the front line and i could physically feel the energy of the stuff they were playing (i bet everyone in the audience did). amazing band.

  • I totally agree with that...

  • Absolutely! I second that.

  • pure art and metal.

  • I really hate ALL Neurosis ripoffs, but these guys have always remained one of my favorite bands. thanks alot for this great interview man.

  • Great video thanks for posting

  • Do you hear what he's saying? He is talking about the FEELINGS and EMOTIONS they wish to express through music. The in between parts that are challenges to them. These guys are ALL about EMOTION and FEELING! WOWFUCKINGWOW! What else can I say about this! AWESOME!

  • One the best bands in recent years next to Swans.

  • Ive got to agree about that.

Why arent there more bands in some way influenced by me I find strange

  • seen this interview countless times. still sucks me in.

    best band in the world.

  • Saw them in a tiny bar in Reno, Nevada, and it was a religious experience. The energy they put into just completely consumed me and I'm sure everyone else there. We didn't "see a show" but were affected by something that happened TO us. It was a real experience.

  • i herd this album is badluck to have is that true Neurosis Short Wave Warfare?

  • Agree, its always interesting to get the story behind the art.. it makes it even more interesting.

  • Thank you Kim for posting this...I enjoy listening to their interviews almost as much as the music..It is refreshing to see this much thought and intelligence put toward music..

  • brilliant band

  • great interview, hail neurosis!

  • i met him on the festival hellfest 2007 in france!!!he's so nice!!!and so is the rest of the band!!!

    i love their music...so brilliant!!!!!

  • Lol... they list "Falling Unknown" as "Crawl Back In". Good interview, though

  • well over a decade listening to them....and it hasn't gotten boring, whatsoever.

  • so fuckin' inspiring....thank you!

  • at one point, there is a video to A season in the sky... Does anybody have that clip? I can't find it anywhere, and this is probably ma favourite Neurosis track...

  • i know its on here somewhere

i found it recently ill try to find the link

  • Well, actually it´s just the clip to Where it roots run from the A sun that never sets DVD with the audio from A season in the sky.

  • grrrrreeat.

    thanks ;]

  • Neurosis is at the top of the evolutionary lineage of heavy music (and art). This interview builds the case from merely obvious.

  • Hell yes. Not to mention they're heavier than anything I've ever imagined.

  • Neurosis is fucking brilliant. They are true artists and musicians in that they weren't satisfied with being one thing. They felt that they had to continue to expand and evolve even after they had accomplished the sound they were searching for, and they did.

  • The reason steve sounds intelligent is because he is. He went to one of the top private catholic high schools in California. I know cause I graduated with him and if your an inspiring musician or huge fan of Neurosis I must tell that Steve brought his guitar to school he plugged it into one of those headset/amp deal and practiced every lunch and break we had. He practiced EVERYDAY and I mean EVERYDAY!!! I am glad to know him from those days and am happy for his succes.

  • Scott and Steve are so powerful live. Neurosis is my spirituality and has been for 15 years. Best wishes and positive vibes to the Neurot family.

  • you're right pelmebass, it's "falling unknown"

  • I'm pretty sure the song they play for A Sun that Never Sets is Falling unknown, not crawl back in... otherwise it's awesome.

  • These guys are true artists.

  • We are lucky to have a band like this in our time. When you hear people tell you that music sucks nowadays, you must point them to Neurosis. How refreshing to have a band that stays true to music as an art form. They have evolved so much and yet maintain an unsurpassed level of credibility in a fickle musical generation. I could only dream of reaching the plateau that they are on.

  • I love how rabid we Neurosis fans are. A true musical community. Neurosis is by far, one of the greatest living bands. I defy anyone to say otherwise.

  • neurosis will always have my respect they are true to their music, hope the new album is as good as the rest.

  • A very good example of what music should be. I'm not talking about the style, because that's not what I mean, they could be jazz, blues, rap, whatever, their heart would still be in the same place.

I've always figured they were underrated, because bullshit bands like rage against the machine are out there alover MTV, and you barely see anything on neurosis, but after this interview, now I know why. These guys can be huge, but they are where they want to be, and I have a huge respect for them.

  • I agree with you to some point. The only ones they need confirmation from are themselves, and that applies to everyone. But some loudmouths just won't ever get it...

  • Dude, Rage Against the Machine? Why did you single them out? That's fine if you don't like them but there are incredible horrible bands more worthy of scorn(Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc.). And they aren't "all over MTV", they just recently got back together and they were never MTV darlings to begin with.

RATM has a serious work ethic not unlike Neurosis anyways

  • I agree with you

  • nice interview, these guys are true legends. however when scott k. said that they'd toured everywhere, that's shite. we've been waiting for as long as we've been fans and that's at least 12-13 yrs or more. hurry up lads! big continent, southern hemisphere, between africa and sth america, below asia, above antartica. no, not new zealand. fugg it...

  • Goosebumps. I've been a fan for over 11 years, but have never seen an interview. Everything i feel when listening to their work, their vibrant spirit, their honesty, all of it they've just confirmed and amplified. thank you for this interview.

  • I have to agree, The Eye of Every Storm does it to me everytime.

  • Great band from Oakland CA.!

  • hot diggity dog. Legends, that's all I have to say......legends!!!!

  • a really inspiring interview , thanks for posting

  • Honestly, when will you ever hear a band this good actually criticize their own work? Jesus, these guys are still my heroes, after all of these years.

  • WOW!!!!

  • great video - probably the best heavy band ever. also, i loved the 'evolution of neurosis' segment. that was freakin' sweet

  • hope they come to finland for the last time before "stopping" touring

  • That was a terrific interview. One of my favorite bands ever.

  • Neurosis is the best band in the world. No doubt.

  • thanks man, very good interviev!

  • musikbyrån is my fav tv show

  • GOD DAMNED AMAZING!

  • strength of fates is an amazing song. in my opinion, through silver in blood is one of the darkest albums ever made. dark in an amazing artistic manner, truly an incredible album

  • I couldn't have said it better myself

  • here here

  • AWESOME fuckin vid

  • This was great, really confirmed my ideas and thoughts around these guys. My respect for them was justified and continues to be

  • so does that mean no more touring...

  • No, they will still do shows, for example the Roadburn festival in the netherlands

  • Neusosis music is amazing but the clean vocals suck, very weak

  • I agree with you there. Those vocal are a bit boring. But I like their other softer singing....for example "Strength of fates"

  • Love this, great to see an interview.

  • thanks a lot mate. really enjoyed watching this.

and still.. they don't reveal much, teh bastards ;)

  • Scott Kelly - my hero, my friend

  • This is totlay awesome never saw an interview with them yet, saw them live a lot, if anyone can help me to tickets for the roadburn fest in april I would be very happy

  • My God. I've enver seen any kind of interveiw with them, ever. THANK YOU!

  • you're welcome, interviews with Neurosis are a bit hard to find

  • This is the single most incridible, in depth interveiw i've seen of a band, tell me, Anyone know what channel this is? I've seen a DEP/Messhuggah Interveiw with Jens & Benjamin from the same channel

  • Its SVT 2, the national channel #2. A long time ago Sweden only had 2 channels; SVT 1 & 2.

  • Refreshingly eloquent and forward-thinking.

  • If you didn't know,you know now!

  • Thanks man. My fave band.

  • thanks for putting this up
