A whole lot of money was made in this country by illegally firing unions and giving tax breaks to the rich, not exactly the work of productive individuals.
@AndroidPolitician The unions were probably not doing their job and were dismissed for good cause. If a worker is doing a good job and producing for the company's bottom line - you promote them, you give them a raise and you take care of them. Only the weak, incompetent and lazy are fired. I wonder which of the last three the union was.
Even if you're using some philosophic definition of "union" where it means unanimous consent, that the fact that people are getting together to make a union is still "attempting to unionize".
Congrats Mr. Lawyer like it makes a difference if a not yet certified group of people get illegally fired for attempting to unionize or firing an already formal union. The chilling effect is still there as are the greater tax cuts for the rich.
@AndroidPolitician I wasn't writing about economics. I was writing about YOU.
"firing an already formal union."
You still don't get it? People that can't add 2+2 certainly can't do calculus, and people that can't grasp the most fundamental logic errors stand no chance at complex theories.
( I even cut you some slack. Unions can NEVER be fired. They don't work for the company. )
Oh my bad, but it's also partly your bad as well. Under the Wagner act, it's illegal to fire people attempting to form a union.
Here's where it's your bad: you can fire unionized workers the difference is they get a fair trial which doesn't exist in non-unionized workplaces. In a non-unionized workplaces you can basically fire anyone for anything at anytime but magically workers have rights under a union.
The speech within the novel is brilliant. But this audio version of it is terrible; the reader sounds weak and awkward, stumbling over passages, sounding as though they were mumbling while reading some bland no-account article in some local newspaper, monotone and virtually lifeless, instead of sounding consistent and with a firm authority of conviction.
@cosg9531 Personally, the reader caught my attention with his voice. I took away a "matter-of-fact", or "you should be listening to this for your own good" feel from the reading. Regardless of slight stumblings in the reading this is an admirable effort by lymphomasurvive to spread this brilliant message!
And today's college graduates are by and large completely and totally brainwashed in Socialism by professors who live in a world of theory and are incapable of succeeding in the real world.
Ayn would be disgusted with our current situation as well as those policy makers in government, both republican and democrat, who perpetuate our enslavement to the Federal Reserve Bank.
Man, thanks but for that to have any effect at all you need to take the audio from the audiobook (torrent) and re-cut it over the images. Let me know when you do.
Gold is the only physical substance in existence that has God's name in it. You need only remove the "L", which sounds interestingly like the word "hell". And this little gem of semantics only takes place in OUR language.
If Obama is impeached and convicted, all his accounts should be frozen down to the amount of $5,000, and he should be offered a job in a healthcare facility--an orderly or food service worker, since he's so fanatical about healthcare. I know, I'm mean; I'm sure he'd rather be executed, but I'd rather give him a chance to succeed in the real world. Who knows, he might work his way up to I.C.U. supervisor. I wouldn't interfere with his progress.
i know. its good that youre sharing this but read it as if you're reading poetry. lose the monotone...otherwise good job for positng this. One of my favorite speeches of all time.
This is a great speech and a terrible reading. This is awful.

Nope they were fired for attempting to unionize which is illegal.

Workers that are attempting to unionize means that there is no union.
You can fire the workers attempting to unionize, but can't fire a union that doesn't exist.

@AndroidPolitician I never made any comment on termination procedures. I can't be either good or bad on that matter, another logical error.
No back to your original post.
"A whole lot of money was made in this country by illegally firing unions"
No one, anywhere, at any time, has ever made money firing (legally or illegally ) anyone ( union or non-union).
The fired workers produce nothing for the employer.
