@101FantasyBoy I believe the crashing of 1507 computers was a reference to a guy named Kevin Mitnick, *I* heard he was -supposedly- only 12 when he used Social Engineering. Ironically enough, Mitnick was arrested in 1995, the same year this film came out.

But that being said, yeah, most of it, and the terminology used in the film as well is pseudo-hacking, to be kind. Like when they're enthralled with the "28.8 bps modem"! And the sad thing is most people were probably like "wow, they sound like they know their stuff". lol

The most unrealistic thing is how they made the game Wipeout look. Oh how I WISH it was really like that. Still a fun game though.

The cyberpunk culture depicted in the film is quite realistic if you were a teen in the 90's, growing up in a big city. I had friends exactly like the ones Dade had in the movie, especially Cereal Killer. As for the hacking stuff... it's not as unrealistic as everyone says. Keep in mind that no high speed internet = no NAT routers for the most part. Hardly anyone even ran firewalls, and early Windows OS's were pocked with vulnerabilities. Hacking circa 1995 was MUCH easier than now.
