I love this city Madison (Wisconsin), I lived here in 1998 May - Aug, lived in an Apartment near Fordem avenue, all those four months was really good, I am still carrying the good old sweet memories, I used to often visit the monana towers and the city, when I watch this video, I felt as if I were in Madison
I have lived in Madison all my life and it's amazing sure our winters are like the abominable snow man pissed on our city but other than that it's Great it the only place were people haven't ever ridiculed me for
WOW !! guitarristaeluli so where have you all traveled ?? I have been in Austin tx, to Ann Arbor mi, to Toledo to Deroit, to Boulder co, to Athens Ga, to Ashville NC, Chicago, Milwaukee, Dallas etc etc etc etc. Madison is JUST as unique as they are !!
We also have a HUGELY important film festival, one of the best in the US, and directors choose to debut independent films here all the time (remember that little movie called Slumdog Millionaire? 500 days of summer?) great, and important, directors visit during the festival also. And our film archives are very important too.
We also have wonderful art fairs and our farmers market is great. Madison has more than stuck up idiots think.
Madison is a great place, I live ther. We have great theater, right near the American players theater (one of the best acting troupes in the US), we live by ski resorts and the dells, house on the rock, state parks. It's truly beautiful.
P.S. Our college is actually very good and very hard to get into, it's a shame it for a rep as a party school
This really isn't about the Farmers' Market. It starts at the Square where the market is, and then walks down State Street. So the square would be at the back of the camera.
..... what the fuck are you talking about. how can you live in madison and never have seen the capitol ...or state street...or the overture center... or the orpheum.
lol ohh, the reputations madison has. UW is indeed a party school with lots of drunks but i don't think the rest of madison outside of the university is full of drunks. lol haha
I have lived in Madison for 3 years and compared to Minnesota, California, and Indiana (yes I lived in all those states) Madison is the best, I am a student in high school and I am an out gay student and for once people have no problem with it
Madison is my PhD thesis advisor city! I've been there 4 times, and I hope to return next year. I ALSO LOVE MADISON! This video is from the Saturday morning fair!
There is nothing about "wannabe", even if madison wannabe is something it wants to be a madison. and madison is different like any of those cities you mentioned.
Just an observation but Milwaukee is mostly blacks and there is trash everywhere. In Madison however it is spotless in the city were primarily white people live.
"MAD CITY"!!! I really hope I can go to college there and get out of stupid boring conservative Virginia! I love Madison, such a beautiful diverse city.
I remember Madison having great music, restaurants, theater not to mention tons of bookstores to wander through. There must be something you find interesting!
Have you been to American Player's Theater? Expand your horizons, do something you wouldn't normally do..lol you might find that you like it.
I would never realized that Madison is the best city if didnt travel a lot. There is always something going on in here! subscribe to "Isthmus" newsletter, they load you up with events and promotions every weekend. Most of them are totally free.
I could list 100s places to check here and around from Memorial Union and Overture events, all those street fests(Willy,Monroe,Orton Park, not to mention Mifflin) to House on the Rock, Door County.
Exactly! Not to mention the Elvjieum (I know it's probably spelled wrong...LOL) even Mineral Point is an interesting little town. I always look forward to my visits to Madison. Sadly they've been to few lately.
How long have you lived in Madison? Do you remember something called Festival of the Lakes? It was supposed to be an annual thing but I believe it ended up only being one maybe 2 years. I'm trying to remember when Stevie Ray Vaughan played there. It was at the fairgrounds by the coliseum. Does anyone remember that?!
Never heard of it. I've been around for about 6yrs. It was something like Lake Fest, but I believe this not what you mean, since its named after Lake Radio (Classic Rock).
This would have been in the late 80's. SRV died in '91 I believe, so it was way before your time in Madison. But thanks for responding. And thanks for the clips of Madison. I really need to get up there more often, I can't believe how the city is changing and growing. On my way up to MN a few years ago, I was so surprised how built up the East side is now.
Oh, not a problem at all,Im in love with this town, so enjoy walking around with camera. Was kinda busy lately with building local blog service in here and as soon as its up n running, will post lots of madisons views and scenes. Fall is here, beautiful, warm and long!
Cool, I look forward to your new posts. I used to live in Edgerton on the Rock River but I worked in Madison right on the square. I've pretty much decided to move back one day. I love Chicago which is where I grew up and live again but not a day goes by that I don't think of Madison. I was up a few weeks ago but only as far as Stoughton to go to a funeral. I noticed the trees were already changing.
Yep, trees ARE changing and its seems funny to my chicagos friends but we have "Fall Report" here on TVnews, where they show the most beautiful places around here )). I spent couple years in Chicago, lived on Sheridan next to Loyola Univ., right by the lake, nice place... but studio was like (lets see) 100 sq.f or somthg like that ))) and parking....(((
The fall reports are great. Fall is my favorite time of year I miss Madison and the state most in the fall. My cousin lives off of Sheridan on the lake in Evanston (he works at Loyola in fact on Pearson) he's got a big apt, that comes with big rent, But his front yard is Lake Michigan so....
He makes fun of me for living in the 'burbs but I tell him at least I can park in a driveway and not 3 blocks away.
I love Madison so much. The Farmer's market is so great. I couldn't go the first time this year, because of other things I had to do, but I usually go there every Saturday.
really? I thought I recognized the music from Art Fair '06... well, anyways, there's nothing quite the same in California. I'd like to see the Farmer's market again. It's a shame you can't walk your dog there anymore, I used to bring mine all the time.
Art fair on square and off square is actually this weekend, will try to find better camcorder to post it here. cameras not really working in this case...
Chicago has he Gold Coast art fair but nothing beats Art fair on/of the square. Hey, do they still do "concerts on the square"?! I used to love those. I worked for AT&T at 44 E. Mifflin right on the square, across from the Blue Marlin. I was up there last summer visiting friends and I can't believe how the square has changed. And I was somewhat dismayed that there's a Starbuck's on the square now, it just seemed wrong somehow...lol. Thanks for posting and keep the Madtown vids coming.
I agree with butterfly... I grew up in Madison, took it for granted and moved out to Southern California almost a year ago... I still get homesick to tears. I agree with the 60's vibe, too.
I'm a FIB by birth, cheesehead by choice...lol. I'm back in Chicago and I love it, but my heart belongs to Madison. Whenever a friend from NYC came to visit we'd always wander State st get some Babcock's Ice Cream and sit by the lake. He used to say that State St. looked like an old Hollywood movie backlot.
I love Madison, truly a unique and beautiful city. And the fact that it's still somewhat stuck in the 60's is one of it's charms. I miss living there but will be back someday!
