Hey, these two, but particularly Tony Crane (the dark haired one) were very good looking and not wearing too badly these days, considering they are over 65. This is a cracking song. It didn't do too well in the charts, but then, the best music never does.
saddest moments of music history sam cooke dies buddy holly dies elvis dies hendrix dies john lennon dies george harrison dies people compare jutin bieber to micheal jackson time magazine call justin bieber the prince of pop micheal jackson dies james brown dies
This song came out in the summer of 1966, when I was 15 and I loved it from the first hearing and still do. I don't remember the Who version. The flip side is called "Love will continue" and my vinyl version from that time is well and truly knackered and distorted so I no longer play it but I will never forget it. My boyfriend of that year would instantly know it was me if he ever read this comment so I won't mention that his name was Gavin.
to be honest, this cover pretty much ruins the song. cheesy organ, static drum line, poppy tambourine...the who's version has about ten times the energy that this version has.
did davey jones and the lower third ( aka david bowie ) do a version of this? There is a memory of this somewhere when I used to see him at the winter gardens in Ventnor isle of wight when he had a summer residency in 64/65, and he announced this was his new single - cheers
Blimey - someone reads this! He definetly used to sing this every week - we saw him about 6 times whre he played everyweek throught the summer season. I could never find it in his discography so maybe nver a realease - but I never forgot the song. Don't know If I should say but he used to bang a well known island girl groupie who, I believe, claimed quite a few famous scalps incl a certain mr MJ!!! - Cheers
@hawkmoon03111951 I`m afraid you are wrong . The Who`s second album was released in the UK in Dec 1966 ( recorded Sept - Nov 1966 ) . And this song was given to The Merseys by Kit Lambert who also produced it and as he had also produced The Who`s album he obviously had access to the song before Dec 1966 .
@45rpmSINGLES You're quite right. Don't know why I put 67. I bought the LP when it came out. Who Sell Out came out in 67. It was still too early for David Bowie in 64 65. Bowie did cover the Mersey's 'Sorrow' on his 'Pin Ups' LP.
it's missing something. Substance I think.

Lucky you to have seen The Lower Third! Bowie never released a version of it but it is of course possible that he covered it live.

@heezergeezer That's too early for this song. It was on The Who's second LP, which was released at the end of 1967.

Thanks for uploading this song. It's v interesting to hear a different version, but I think the original by The Who is still the best.
