You must be gay then. You typed in "Shrek the musical on Broadway" And watched this video. I guess your gay then? No your not gay, your just a fucking dumb ass. That's what you are.
It's a surprisingly great show. Everything is put together well from the sets to the costumes. The cast is AMAZING, they really bring the characters to life in a way that's faithful to the movie (first one only) and yet seem original. The songs are a lot of fun, and sometimes even beautiful. As for the story, it's mostly the same as the movie, however we get to see some of the character's backstories too, which makes it more interesting and funny. I had such a fun time at Shrek, I even went 2x.
what an awful commercial.. but the other bootlegs on youtube prove it is worth the money.. Who I'd be is absolutely fantastic!! and Freak Flag seems like the song that everyone will be singing in the streets after the show.. I cant wait to see it
Yes, Sutton is an amazing actress, so incredibly gifted and nice, but Christopher Sieber doesn't just stay on his knees the entire show. He dances, sings, and is downright hilarious. They are both VERY talented actors.
ive heard the music fo the show and it actually is better than it sounds. the costumes are great!! but i agree on rather seeing billy elliot . dying to see that show and in the heights.
Is this musical any good? We're going to NY this summer, and we're allowed to choose three shows that we'd like 2 c. I'm putting my vote in 4 Billy Elliot, but my younger brother wants me 2 check if Shrek ended up being any good as a musical.... I know I'd c it just 4 Sutton Foster!
You have to see In The Heights. Absolutely amazing. Billy Elliot is awesome too. I heard Shrek is super sucky, though. Although its up for a Tony. Wait until the Tony performance and then decide.
I wasn't sure if I would like Shrek either, but I LOVED it! I even saw it twice, and I'm normally not the kind of person who sees a show twice. Sutton Foster, Christopher Sieber, Brian d'Arcy James, Daniel Breaker and the rest of the cast were outstanding, the songs costumes and sets were great and I just had a wonderful time overall.
I was sceptical at first, but I listened to the soundtrack and I think Shrek seems to work surprisingly well in musical format. I found myself laughing despite not seeing it, and there were some songs which gave me that tingley feeling where something really amazed you... so yeah, I really wish I was able to go to Broadway and see this. My only hope at the moment is that it comes to the West End and I can afford to travel all the way down to London to see it ^^; Or I win the lottery or something
hey i am just speaking for me and my friends (that includes rumpleteazer22314) we all agree that RENT (which is one of the best musicals ever after Wicked) was taken off Broadway so they could put shrek on which is still unbelievably stupid. if they hadn't put Shrek on they wouldn't have taken RENT off
Theatre doesnt work like that. Shows are constantly closing on Bway. A while I knwo Wicked has it's fans, if you believe that Wicked is one of the best musicals ever, I can't take anything you say too seriously as you clearly have no knowledge of what musical theatre really is.
i've been in quite a few at school. mostly voice performances, but i've been in a few musicals. like Kamp KAOS, Rumplestiltskin and I'm going to be in RENT: School Edition this summer. and we like Sweeney Todd, CATS, The Phantom of the Opera and quite a few others.
this SUCKS they took RENT off broadway for THIS THAT IS THE STUPIDEST DECISION ANYONE HAS EVER MADE IN A MILLION YEARS WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THIS OMFG!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS UNBELIEVABLY TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and for anyone who is mad at me you know it is true
Too many crazed RENT fans thinking it as the best musical ever. Have these guys heard of Oscar Hammerstein? Stephen Sondheim? kander & Ebb, Lerner and Lowe? Sure it won a pulitzer, so did A CHORUS LINE! Yes it was a good musical. No, it was a SUB PAR film (half of these RENT fans only know the film anyway).
Am I sad that i never saw Rent live? A little. Depressed, Hell no! There are tons of shows I still want to see. WHats one show that i miss!
I love Stephen Sondheim shows just for the record. RENT is a great show because it's a celebration of life. Shrek has no meaning to me because what meaning is there? Jonathan Larson's shows have meaning because they have to do with things that were and still are REAL!
All the musicals named in this conversation have a purpose or a moral, not just RENT. To say that all those musicals are empty and have no meaning other than soulless entertainment is insulting to those who worked on them.
that is so true (tee hee i know you) and RENT is just the most heart wrenching musicals ever because it is about something that really happened and Jonathan Larson died the like the day before Rent showed and he died backstage listening to the song Dieing In America
It really is a great show, I'm going again and I can't wait! People automatically underestimate it because it's based on an animated movie but it's such a wonderful musical with an outstanding cast and awesome songs. Listen to a few of them if you don't believe me.
I just listened to a few of the songs and was VERY unimpressed. They just don't have any effort in them to me. My opinion, not meant to put you down. Though, might I suggest for good show tunes you look up In The Heights...that was a surprise for me.
While I disliked the show (a lot), I commend your attitude towards animated movies being made into musicals. Yes, that is absolutely no reason to underestimate it. keep that mindset, as I'm sure more and more of those shows are going to open.
they shouldnt put stuff on broadway that started as a movie. cuz shrek is set for a movie NOT the stage. so i have to say i dont like that they put shrek on stage.
im speaking for me and all my friends who love Broadway. all of us prefer musicals like RENT that ran 12 years on Broadway and Wicked which was voted as the best musical ever written
Rent won a freaking pulitzer, so I give it credit for that, Wicked as best musical written? You do know there have been shows lighting up broadway since the 1890s right? WIcked is probably not the best show written. Id say that title would go to an R&H, L&L, K&E or a Stephen SOndheim show. Sorry to burst your bubble.
On that note, personally, cant wait to see WIcked for the first time, might give Shrek a pass.
Never pay 120 dollars to see a show!!! there are PLENTY of ticket discounts and what not. My favorite is TKTS in the city...half price day-of tickets.
Do some searching before you buy your tickets. Message back if you want some suggestions :)
True, my dad's part of a Broadway tickets club so we see shows at a discount (and I live on the Q line so Times Square is 30mins away from my home in BKLYN)
However, if you have to do the TKTS thing, avoid the free nearby stress test. its a ploy by those scientology nutjobs to wrangle you in. Its a shame the new TKTS pavillion has to be in the shadow of the NYC Scientology center.
You cannot judge anything by ONE VIDEO. If you have not seen SHREK LIVE after its opening on Broadway, do not write negative comments about the shows "waste of talent" or how much it sucks.
Live, this show is truly a Tony Award, Drama Desk winning show!
Well put. I agree one hundred percent; this musical really does need to be seen live before judgments can be made. If you don't want to pay the full 100 bucks, try the lotto, get a student rush ticket, or wait until the last minute to get your ticket (sometimes they give discounts to get the seats sold).
I really don't know what to say about this. I don't want to say anything bad about this musical, it's just from what I am seeing in this commercial. It doesn't really look like something that I would pay $100 for. It just looks like one of those shows that will last for maybe a year or two then close. I am not saying anything bad about it. If it lasts for 20 years, then I will be thoroughly suprised.
Really? That is so good. I'll post a video of my reactions to Shrek when I go..... February 19th at 8:00 PM! I'm taking my friend, who has never seen any Broadway show or been to NYC to Shrek too. She will love it, I hope!
I hope you get to meet the cast afterwards; Brian will take longer to come out (he didn't come out at all when I saw the 2:00 show last week, because of the costume constraints), but it'll be worth waiting for them!
Okay.... I heard a rumor that "things are looking up" was cut from the show.... can you tell me if that song was titled in ur playbill or if it was sung under "What's up, Doloc?"
Is the Wicked "and no ones gonna bring me down" in there still?
It wasn't exactly cut. They just renamed it "What's Up, Duloc". And the only differences are some new choreography, a slight change for the reprise, and they took out the Gutter Guy.
lol, they still have the Wicked reference! But instead of him going behind a curtain, he enters and exits with a tower.
Don't worry, it's under the name "What's Up Duloc" and the Wicked reference is still there. It is definitely one of the best numbers in the entire show!
Did you get to meet all of them? When I was there Daniel Breaker was at some sort of mixer and since it was freezing we decided not to wait. He was the only one we didn't get to meet though!
I saw about half of them. But I met my three favorites; Jennifer Cody, Christopher Sieber, and John Tartaglia!! They were SO nice, and I still can't believe they signed my playbill!
Awesome!! They're all so friendly it's surreal. I mean, you'd expect at least one of them to be all grumpy or to brush you off because they're in a hurry, but it's not like that at all!
Haha, I think my sister and I were the only people who didn't get their Playbills signed. We had them sign our pants instead... :P
Yeah, that's why I never wear them. I'm paranoid that they'll get dirty and I'll have to wash them and all the signatures will wash out.
I just saw the show on Valentine's Day and they were all kinda in a hurry, but it was Valentine's Day and they probably all have spouses/boyfriends/girlfriends to get home too. But I got to meet Daniel Breaker this time!! He's really nice and really funny. :)
This is so cute! I saw the show two weeks after its official opening and I loved it so much. People say it's a waste of the performers' talents, but the songs and dances really do show them at their best. Go see it!!
Whoever says this show was a waste of ANYTHING has not seen it yet! If anything, it's the greatest example of how truly gifted everyone in the cast is!
Agreed. I mean, seriously, the way it's written and choreographed gives them a chance to do all sorts of different things and show how versatile they are. The fact that John Tartaglia is running around doing everything he's best at was great to see live.
Oh, and they better win the Tony for set design. (or whatever that category's called)
EXACTLY!! I knew Johnny was amazing with puppets, but the fact that he plays every puppet but Gingy is SO incredible! And Chris has to dance ON HIS KNEES; try and tell me that doesn't sound like he has major skills!!
Screw the Tony for set design; these guys deserve every Tony under the sun!!
Haha, I know, right? I want to ask him how many of the puppets that appear during the travel song are him. And how the heck he does that Dragon...
Dude, Christopher Sieber should get a Tony just because he stands up a grand total of like, four times. I'd love to see Shrek sweep the Tony Awards, but the only one I'm confident they'll win is for set design. If they don't, something is wrong.
I'm guess he's Puss, the bunny, the voice of the cow, and the dish. The first one looks like something only a Sesame Street veteran could handle, and the last three had voices that sound like either Rod, Sage, or Johnny.
lol, SO true! I never knew a guy who could look both menacing AND hilarious while on his knees; he looked like an angry china doll at first! And they are DEFINATELY getting Best Score, too!
I thought he was the bunny too! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm so psyched; I'm seeing this again on Valentine's Day and I really hope he won't be out. I'm definitely gonna ask how that dragon works if he's there.
Definately for costumes! Each costume is visually appealing, and the trickier costumes (Pinocchio's nose, Farquaad's size, Fiona's changes, and Shrek's . . well, everything) were DEFINATELY made by masters!
Oh goodness, yes. Fiona's wedding dress is positively exquisite and there are just SO MANY costumes!! I think there are about four full racks of them, not counting the ones the principals wear.
And I would just like to reiterate that they had BETTER win for best set. The entire stage is decked out and it's so complicated it must have taken forever to design it. The bridge that Donkey and Shrek cross is pretty intense, too.
It's pretty enough; I like her "Morning Person" tap dress; very cute! And I've lost count of how many costumes they need for everyone, and the SPACE most of them must take up!
Oh, you KNOW they're gonna get Best Set! They have so much stuff flying on and offstage, it's a miracle no one has gotten killed yet! And it's SO beautiful!
shrek's gonna eat me

this SUCKS they took RENT off broadway for THIS THAT IS THE STUPIDEST DECISION ANYONE HAS EVER MADE IN A MILLION YEARS WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THIS OMFG!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS UNBELIEVABLY TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and for anyone who is mad at me you know it is true
symislair 2 years ago
i agree with you completely. RENT was taken off Broadway for this.
rumpleteazer22314 2 years ago
Shrek the musical has nothing to do with Rent. Rent closed. Get over it.
Shrek isn't the best musical ever, but there has (and will) be far worst.
magicolive430 2 years ago
Jonathan died before he ever got to see his show so no i wont get over it.
rumpleteazer22314 2 years ago
Dude, that makes zippo sense. Having Rent on Broadway another year doesn't mean Jonathan would've gotten to see it.
Listen, it's sad that Jonathan never got to see Rent, but that has nothing to do with Shrek.
magicolive430 2 years ago
Agreed.
ANd Yes, sad JL never saw Rent!
Dkalban 2 years ago
I love Stephen Sondheim shows just for the record. RENT is a great show because it's a celebration of life. Shrek has no meaning to me because what meaning is there? Jonathan Larson's shows have meaning because they have to do with things that were and still are REAL!
rumpleteazer22314 2 years ago
RENT is my favorite musical, but not all musicals have to have a meaning. They can just be for entertainment, like Shrek.
biggguy82729 2 years ago 2
All the musicals named in this conversation have a purpose or a moral, not just RENT. To say that all those musicals are empty and have no meaning other than soulless entertainment is insulting to those who worked on them.
javakat343 2 years ago 2
that is so true (tee hee i know you) and RENT is just the most heart wrenching musicals ever because it is about something that really happened and Jonathan Larson died the like the day before Rent showed and he died backstage listening to the song Dieing In America
symislair 2 years ago
Neither do sows like Little Mermaid and Hairspray (closed) but they are still very good!
BroadwayMusicalFreak 2 years ago
It really is a great show, I'm going again and I can't wait! People automatically underestimate it because it's based on an animated movie but it's such a wonderful musical with an outstanding cast and awesome songs. Listen to a few of them if you don't believe me.
TheITinFIT 2 years ago
I just listened to a few of the songs and was VERY unimpressed. They just don't have any effort in them to me. My opinion, not meant to put you down. Though, might I suggest for good show tunes you look up In The Heights...that was a surprise for me.
While I disliked the show (a lot), I commend your attitude towards animated movies being made into musicals. Yes, that is absolutely no reason to underestimate it. keep that mindset, as I'm sure more and more of those shows are going to open.
guitarfreak429 2 years ago 2
I'd like to add that I hate rap and I hate hip hop music on the whole. Therefore, I knew before listening that I was going to hate In The Heights.
I thought wrong. The music is some of the best music from a musical i have ever heard.
guitarfreak429 2 years ago
I thought the same thing before seeing it. Now I keep playing my favorite songs from In the Heights on my laptop.
Dkalban 2 years ago
they shouldnt put stuff on broadway that started as a movie. cuz shrek is set for a movie NOT the stage. so i have to say i dont like that they put shrek on stage.
rumpleteazer22314 2 years ago
you freaking SUCK
abcdancergirl2224 2 years ago
im speaking for me and all my friends who love Broadway. all of us prefer musicals like RENT that ran 12 years on Broadway and Wicked which was voted as the best musical ever written
rumpleteazer22314 2 years ago
I guess a lot of wicked's fans have plenty of time to vote for thigs like this.
evilproaxe 2 years ago
what is that supposed to mean? that wicked is awful? cuz if thats what it means then im here to say that it was amazing.
rumpleteazer22314 2 years ago
Rent won a freaking pulitzer, so I give it credit for that, Wicked as best musical written? You do know there have been shows lighting up broadway since the 1890s right? WIcked is probably not the best show written. Id say that title would go to an R&H, L&L, K&E or a Stephen SOndheim show. Sorry to burst your bubble.
On that note, personally, cant wait to see WIcked for the first time, might give Shrek a pass.

is there anyone who has this or know any download or watch online of Shrek The Musical? Please help me!

cant wait to pay 120 dollars to c this! what a joke!!
horrorlover927 2 years ago 4
its actually an amazing show
phantomofopera91 2 years ago
Never pay 120 dollars to see a show!!! there are PLENTY of ticket discounts and what not. My favorite is TKTS in the city...half price day-of tickets.
Do some searching before you buy your tickets. Message back if you want some suggestions :)
guitarfreak429 2 years ago
True, my dad's part of a Broadway tickets club so we see shows at a discount (and I live on the Q line so Times Square is 30mins away from my home in BKLYN)
However, if you have to do the TKTS thing, avoid the free nearby stress test. its a ploy by those scientology nutjobs to wrangle you in. Its a shame the new TKTS pavillion has to be in the shadow of the NYC Scientology center.
Dkalban 2 years ago
haha no worries, i avoid all of that. i live right outside the city so I'm there all the time.

Heyy, we have just started a new SHREK THE MUSICAL contest!
Hope you will join!

PEOPLE:
You cannot judge anything by ONE VIDEO. If you have not seen SHREK LIVE after its opening on Broadway, do not write negative comments about the shows "waste of talent" or how much it sucks.
Live, this show is truly a Tony Award, Drama Desk winning show!
LEGALLYbroadway 3 years ago
Well put. I agree one hundred percent; this musical really does need to be seen live before judgments can be made. If you don't want to pay the full 100 bucks, try the lotto, get a student rush ticket, or wait until the last minute to get your ticket (sometimes they give discounts to get the seats sold).
PuppetDumbledore 2 years ago
I really don't know what to say about this. I don't want to say anything bad about this musical, it's just from what I am seeing in this commercial. It doesn't really look like something that I would pay $100 for. It just looks like one of those shows that will last for maybe a year or two then close. I am not saying anything bad about it. If it lasts for 20 years, then I will be thoroughly suprised.
PhantomoftheRose 3 years ago
Trust me; the show is worth every penny!
ztslovebird 3 years ago
yeah, commercials always look bad, but im seeing it on the 19th, and it is sooooo worth it. Go see it, it is amazing.
LEGALLYbroadway 3 years ago
You're going to LOVE it! I saw it last week, and I'm still in awe of how amazing it is!
ztslovebird 3 years ago
Really? That is so good. I'll post a video of my reactions to Shrek when I go..... February 19th at 8:00 PM! I'm taking my friend, who has never seen any Broadway show or been to NYC to Shrek too. She will love it, I hope!
LEGALLYbroadway 3 years ago
I hope you get to meet the cast afterwards; Brian will take longer to come out (he didn't come out at all when I saw the 2:00 show last week, because of the costume constraints), but it'll be worth waiting for them!
ztslovebird 3 years ago
I've planned for the wait, lol! I really want Sutton's the most.
LEGALLYbroadway 3 years ago
Hope you have a warmer day than I did! It was REALLY cold out; my mom and I stopped by Macy's for extra warmth. But it was SO worth the wait!
ztslovebird 3 years ago
Okay.... I heard a rumor that "things are looking up" was cut from the show.... can you tell me if that song was titled in ur playbill or if it was sung under "What's up, Doloc?"
Is the Wicked "and no ones gonna bring me down" in there still?
LEGALLYbroadway 3 years ago
It wasn't exactly cut. They just renamed it "What's Up, Duloc". And the only differences are some new choreography, a slight change for the reprise, and they took out the Gutter Guy.
lol, they still have the Wicked reference! But instead of him going behind a curtain, he enters and exits with a tower.
ztslovebird 3 years ago
Don't worry, it's under the name "What's Up Duloc" and the Wicked reference is still there. It is definitely one of the best numbers in the entire show!
TheITinFIT 2 years ago
Did you get to meet all of them? When I was there Daniel Breaker was at some sort of mixer and since it was freezing we decided not to wait. He was the only one we didn't get to meet though!
PuppetDumbledore 2 years ago
I saw about half of them. But I met my three favorites; Jennifer Cody, Christopher Sieber, and John Tartaglia!! They were SO nice, and I still can't believe they signed my playbill!
ztslovebird 2 years ago
Awesome!! They're all so friendly it's surreal. I mean, you'd expect at least one of them to be all grumpy or to brush you off because they're in a hurry, but it's not like that at all!
Haha, I think my sister and I were the only people who didn't get their Playbills signed. We had them sign our pants instead... :P
PuppetDumbledore 2 years ago
And they didn't look all that exhausted, even though they had just finished a show like Shrek! There must be some kind of magic at the Broadway!
Now THAT is cool! I was going to ask them to sign my T-Shirt, but I didn't want the ink to wash out.
ztslovebird 2 years ago
Yeah, that's why I never wear them. I'm paranoid that they'll get dirty and I'll have to wash them and all the signatures will wash out.
I just saw the show on Valentine's Day and they were all kinda in a hurry, but it was Valentine's Day and they probably all have spouses/boyfriends/girlfriends to get home too. But I got to meet Daniel Breaker this time!! He's really nice and really funny. :)
PuppetDumbledore 2 years ago
Shirts like that should only be worn on special casual occassions, and when you ned EXTREME good luck!
lol, totally understandable! Lucky you; it seems EVERYONE in Shrek is the friendliest, nicest person alive!
ztslovebird 2 years ago
True that. Maybe I'll wear my pants once they're completely covered or something...
They really are, legit, the nicest cast ever!! Especially when you consider the fact that a lot of them are really big names.
PuppetDumbledore 2 years ago
lol, pants are a different story. They get dirtier faster than shirts.
I know! You'd think fame and success would go to their heads, but they are SO incredibly nice and considerate, it's mind-blowing!
ztslovebird 2 years ago
wow i find it hillarious that brian d'arcy james was in this, and The Wild Party...
broadwaybound246 3 years ago
This is so cute! I saw the show two weeks after its official opening and I loved it so much. People say it's a waste of the performers' talents, but the songs and dances really do show them at their best. Go see it!!
PuppetDumbledore 3 years ago
Whoever says this show was a waste of ANYTHING has not seen it yet! If anything, it's the greatest example of how truly gifted everyone in the cast is!
ztslovebird 3 years ago
Agreed. I mean, seriously, the way it's written and choreographed gives them a chance to do all sorts of different things and show how versatile they are. The fact that John Tartaglia is running around doing everything he's best at was great to see live.
Oh, and they better win the Tony for set design. (or whatever that category's called)
PuppetDumbledore 3 years ago
EXACTLY!! I knew Johnny was amazing with puppets, but the fact that he plays every puppet but Gingy is SO incredible! And Chris has to dance ON HIS KNEES; try and tell me that doesn't sound like he has major skills!!
Screw the Tony for set design; these guys deserve every Tony under the sun!!
ztslovebird 3 years ago
Haha, I know, right? I want to ask him how many of the puppets that appear during the travel song are him. And how the heck he does that Dragon...
Dude, Christopher Sieber should get a Tony just because he stands up a grand total of like, four times. I'd love to see Shrek sweep the Tony Awards, but the only one I'm confident they'll win is for set design. If they don't, something is wrong.
PuppetDumbledore 3 years ago 2
I'm guess he's Puss, the bunny, the voice of the cow, and the dish. The first one looks like something only a Sesame Street veteran could handle, and the last three had voices that sound like either Rod, Sage, or Johnny.
lol, SO true! I never knew a guy who could look both menacing AND hilarious while on his knees; he looked like an angry china doll at first! And they are DEFINATELY getting Best Score, too!
ztslovebird 3 years ago
I thought he was the bunny too! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm so psyched; I'm seeing this again on Valentine's Day and I really hope he won't be out. I'm definitely gonna ask how that dragon works if he's there.
Oh, and they should win for costumes too. :D
PuppetDumbledore 3 years ago
Definately for costumes! Each costume is visually appealing, and the trickier costumes (Pinocchio's nose, Farquaad's size, Fiona's changes, and Shrek's . . well, everything) were DEFINATELY made by masters!
ztslovebird 2 years ago
Oh goodness, yes. Fiona's wedding dress is positively exquisite and there are just SO MANY costumes!! I think there are about four full racks of them, not counting the ones the principals wear.
And I would just like to reiterate that they had BETTER win for best set. The entire stage is decked out and it's so complicated it must have taken forever to design it. The bridge that Donkey and Shrek cross is pretty intense, too.
PuppetDumbledore 2 years ago
It's pretty enough; I like her "Morning Person" tap dress; very cute! And I've lost count of how many costumes they need for everyone, and the SPACE most of them must take up!
Oh, you KNOW they're gonna get Best Set! They have so much stuff flying on and offstage, it's a miracle no one has gotten killed yet! And it's SO beautiful!
ztslovebird 2 years ago
