That's an interesting observation. I've always felt the complete opposite, that Vinnie is the more musical, more thrifty player. On certain songs, he's just destroying it, but not in a Thomas Lang kind of way. He plays to the energy of the song. Weckl I feel is the guy whose more apt to show off something for its own sake.

Berlin is a firm believer in low action, lighter strings (.40-.100) , and a very soft touch. He says he plays all day and doesn't have callouses on his fingers. So his stamina is really a product of not killing himself by pulling hard on the strings.

Vinnie made his name playing w/Frank Zappa in the late 70's. He replaced Terry Bozzio, and after he left, was replaced by Chad Wackerman. Then later, he was "Mr Studio"--played on pretty much every commercial and tv show theme for a while in the 80's. Later, he had a big money gig w/Sting, and is currently a member of Jeff Beck's band. Has done a jillion recordings.
