  • Ah, she plays "soo bad" , that must be the reason why she has so much success! Please, do it better then.

  • You are asking if Ms. Weilerstein is the "new" Jacqueline du Pre'? No,never.

  • yo yo ma is soooo much better than this

  • I have to say I'm most definitely a fan of her Kodaly interpretation. The biggest thing about her playing (whether you like her style or not) is that it stands out. I mean, you did just watch this video of your own free will, didn't you?

  • wonderful

  • I agree with LeChevalierDuFeu !!!! I can't listen to this! Her playing allways makes me scream! I just can't stand the way she just ignores 30 % of the notes!!!!

  • @Xenialaus

listen to the whole music and dont count notes.

  • @wfholch It does'nt really make sence to listen to the music, when half of it is missing, does it?!

  • She looks like an advertisement for cello-related injuries! I hope she can still play in 5 years.

  • This is the worst Dvorak I've ever heard, MURDERED the opening! She needs to learn to take her fucking time, she rushes everything!! Really good technique, just really bad interpretation!

  • @TheTradge No need for bad language, please. No matter how much you don't like it, please think about children and others who might not like it. Thanks.

  • @phrederica yeahhhh, i got what you said the first time...AND the second & third times too! Obviously what you say is true to an extent, but you also need to make room for people who are opinionated, and also respect our right to free speech.

  • it´s terrible ... dvorak would murder that woman!!!!

  • shes not their when its necessary.. not liking.

  • Thumbs up for her beautiful playing.

Thumbs down for the work, quality of the recording, and orchestration.

  • holy crap 5:00 is TERRIBLE

  • Exquisite, and packs some real fire.

  • She has the craziest bow hold ever. But hey, whatever works!

  • @lkpp90x haha when i play cello, i use the violin bow hold, and my teacher gets mad at me, but less fingers on the bow i think helps with the wrist

  • @lkpp90x it seems to be an interesting mix between starker and piatigorsky methods. closed concentrated fingers as a unit as starker teaches, yet total flexibility and control in the fingers rather than the wrist, as piatigorsky teaches. everyone's different!

  • @jwunschie14 hm....dont see much starker there believe me :)

  • @warandcheese Closed fingers = starker-esque, believe me. her pinky, yeah no starker there, lots of movement, not starker either. close fingers....thats what i said

  • She's so beautiful...

  • I get to take a free cello masterclass with her! I'm so excited!

  • I seen Alisa Weilerstein in london, i was so blown away my jaw was hanging open for most of it, in awe, plus fell abit in love with her lol

  • She is beautiful and talented. You must all be jealous. This is a woman of great depth. We are so fortunate to have her.

  • @padredemishijos12 Yes she is very talented indeed. As a cellist myself, Im a great fan of her playing and musicality. I dont understand how she holds the bow the she does though. I tried to do that, and I almost injured myself. LOL But everyone has their own way of playing, and her way of playing is amazing :))))

  • @makuletboy you have to take into account the way she pulls the strings with the left hand.

  • I dont like her at all

  • @Gyurme25 you are jealous

  • oh she's so emotional that music just won't come out...and it's hard to even look at her..so many emotions on her face...in vain

  • wow that is one weird way to hold the bow~ but it works :P

  • She certainly has the whole Jacqueline duPré thing down pat: the hair, the dress, the posture, the faces, the way of swaying - the works. (Anyone who ever saw duPré live will know whar I mean) There's no question, she's very, very good, but so are a lot of other people. Stop by the Juilliard School some Saturday morning and listen to what comes out of the practice rooms.

  • @assindiastignani my teacher had to point out her resemblance to duPre, which seems to be working in her favor... but he also admitted she is quite good. something about adopting such a recognizable persona leaves a bad taste, for me

  • @Purebunny29 I hear what you're saying. For me it's the same and somehow it colors the way I listen to her. However, she is good. But why she's making the career that she's making...that I don't understand.

  • @assindiastignani all i hear are music making machines not great players sorry to disagree with the Julliard example. I think she has her good qualities as everyone. I like more french cellists and jet I respect ppl with such big careers and at a very early age

  • @Apalexpe I think we're basicly saying the same thing.I'm no fan of the current Juilluiard School string dept. either. My only point is: why her? There's really nothing abt. her that sets her apart from a lot of other cellists her age. But, as you say, she has her good qualities.

  • @assindiastignani

You're not really listening. Ms. Weilerstein's career has been on the rise for many years, and by looking at her list of engagements, I think you can see that conductor after conductor and orchestra after orchestra has been bowled over by her talents and innate musicality. I refer you to her spectacular performance of the Elgar Concerto with Daniel Barenboim and the Berlin Philharmonic, who apparently decided that there are LOT of things that set her apart.

  • @violinguy123 There are all sorts of reasons why certain people make big careers and others don't: having the right agent, the right PR machine, money, or just plain being in the right place at the right time. As I said, she's very good, but so are a lot of other people. Did you ever hear DuPré, or Fournier, or Rostrapovich, or Cassado, or Navarro live? The Elgar w. Berlin was very good - no more. But, if you like her, fine.

  • going to see her for the second time live in a couple of weeks with dudamel and the la phil.

this makes me really excited about the concert!
