It will take us long time to erase people's false hope and brainwash that CI is not a cure. Dr. Pisoni, said that "CI does not help to restore normal hearing sounds". I guess we keep on vlogging, blogging, writing letters to Parents of Deaf children and whatnot..

I noticed he is 8 months old and I haven't seen him holding up his head. He arched his back in another video (I hear that usually mean something). The child look worn out. I feel bad for the boy and I think the media should have left him alone.. They may not want to update a video because he probably have medical condition.

I just realized, since he was born hearing, it may not be a hoax. He may already have the skills. But it still take awhile to adjust to CI because it can sound like a donald duck and such.

It's not about his abililty to hear the sounds. It's about the MSM (Mainstreamed Media) which gave everyone a misinterpretion that it was a miracle. Miracle means cure and he became normal hearing person. That part is hoax.

Don't you think its too much for 8 months old baby to handle 2 CIs right after he recovered from fatal illness, spinal meningitis? I tried to add you on my friend list but couldnt because you didn't develop your own Youtube channel? you plan to?

I'm sure he heard something, but it doesn't mean he can equal sounds to his mama's voice. I don't think he can develop that skill yet. I highly doubt he would laugh if no one was making a facial expression. I mean, look his mom's surprised look when he got activated.

@Sazzydeafgurl true, all babies are like that even I did use surprised looks with my friend's deaf babies, they laughed. My heart goes to Jonathan because I am little worried. We havent see him recently. He must be 3 years old by now. I hope he is not like another child I saw who experiences balance problem, drooling. Yes 2 CIs on him, lost hearing to spinal meningitis just like Jonathan. =/

Beautiful job, aguaboo! Somebody sent me that link and asked what do I think of that....I reacted quickly and said Jonathan simply reacted to his mom's facial expressions, not hearing her voices. Babies do use their eyes and hands to follow things, etc because that is the first thing they do before they learn how to talk.

The parents need a huge wake up call!

I went thru like him, after I recovered at 2, I was like sick puppy, so fragile and took me long time (6 to 8 mos) to eat, walk and potty trained again. I feel like Jonathan struck me with pains and grieves. Being Deaf is beautiful thing!

Most of the activation videos on youtube show initial shock or the child is scared and even crying. I think this is the first one that I have seen the baby smile. Who knows if it was the actual first reaction, who knows if it was even on? All about framing, the baby smiles so the video goes viral. Why not show one of the terrified babies?

Don't you think its too much for 8 mos old Jonathan to handle? He was diagnosised with spinal meningitis, a fatal illness. He overcame and got well, then CI right away? By now he is 3 yrs old, I'd like to see his current development, I notice on 2nd or 3rd vlog, I assume its was father who had to hold Jonathan's head? Was it becuz of poor balance? I know most 8 mos old babies can sit up and move head on their own.

If you look at the babies who show confused look during activation they don't have near the hits that this one does. SAD really. People need to know that it may not be as exciting for the baby to hear for the first time, it can be scary for them. Time to wake people up. Your message is crystal clear.

Good question, I first saw it coming on AOL front page then its gone like wildfires. I received GMA's email asking me for Jonathan's parents contact info. My sister in law saw that on CBS, I was like gee! what's the rush? Why use 2 yrs old video which CIs become like ancient technology, many are looking into stem cells becuz they knew CIs do not work. I just send jonathan's parents an email asking abt his health status. Sounds not good.

It was shown on GMA, AGbell website, CBS and AOL using the link to youtube video, we didn't see any follow up story on Jonathan's.

Two things I'd like to see how it shld happen. 1) Bring another 3 years old Deaf child using bilingual skills 2). Bring 3 yrs old Jonathan on the show. We can compare both kids. We can do letter-writing campaign but will GMA agree?

I agree with you on this...I felt the same thing when I first saw their video, baby looking at his mother is ALL visual, as it's so obvious...people were fooled about baby hearing sound for first time, it's sad! And interestingly enough to know that they haven't updated on their son in over 2 years! (Disregard my other comments as it's not correct, so please disapprove it, thanks Michelle).

When I held my friend's Deaf baby, he looked at me smiling, the same thing becuz I was using face expression. I knew all babies react like that, its not because of hear.

(Cont ...) Fast forward to approx 10 years old, we learned he was pretty behind with eduction, since he went to private school with non-certified interpreter. Ouch! We tried to encourage them to attend deaf school, but they thought the boy would receive better education from the private school. Nope, they thought failed. They didn't want to listen from our own standpoints what we thought the best for that boy. Hearing people always think they knew better than deaf people. Egoism, them.

Its been 10 yrs and his parents still resist to your idea of organic cure?! Now see what they have caused, harm is done. He lost his altruism becuz he has to do things to please them, that's so wrong. You and I are living proof, we know what's best for those Deaf children. My wife used to babysit the deaf boy who happened to have CI. First, he was born hearing, then lost his hearing due to high fever. A little later, his parent decided to put CI in him. We did not meet him until he was approx 2 years old, and my wife was hired to babysit him so he could learn ASL, and at the same time we were curious what kind of result he received.

I've stopped owning a TV long time just for that exact reason; although it wasn't about deafness, the biased media is out there. True freedom of speech in media doesn't exist anymore. Living in Europe just makes it more obvious how biased USA is! It's really a sad thing to witness firsthand. What I do nowadays is to always cross check if I want to know a certain info, even from other countries and make my educated guess. I applaud you for bringing this up! Hope more ppl open their eyes to this!
