  • All of the Spinball haters realistically couldn't get past toxic caves. Not saying im the expert, I only made it to the Machine level.

  • @keepthehopealivea27 lol I love this game and I've only made it past toxic caves xD

  • I just love how the jap box says "Sonic Spinball FROM U.S.A." It's almost like SEGA/Sonic Team was like "we didn't create this pile of vomit, Americans did!"

inb4 just saying, this game is awesome in my opinion.

  • you know... call me crazy, but go listen to "lava shelter" from Shadow the hedgehog for a second.. doesnt it sound like this just a tiny bit? i miss this game btw. sonic spinball is so underrated. good thing i have it on Sonic Mega Collection :3 i personally liked toxic cave more as far as themes, but this is still good. lol

  • @NikkeiDS You're not crazy. They sound VERY similar.

  • you upload this video on by birthday :D

  • this song and this game was the shit.best sonic game ever

  • The Sonic Boom CD's credit information has been updated recently, and it confirms that Brian Coburn was specifically credited for this track as such:

    -----

Lava Powerhouse Composed by: Brian Coburn

    -----

He also produced the version heard on that CD with Nilsen:

    ----

Produced by: Spencer Nilsen and Brian Coburn

    ------

  • The theme tune to films Paranormal Activity 1 2 and 3

  • lava powerhouse was almost as intimidating as showdown, the music should get a remix, especially for 1:05-1:07

  • i hope they make this level into a smash bros stage

  • *Warning* Here come the Clucks!

  • This was the only video game my dad knew how to play. I can hear him now, on his turn, "Stupid Clucks!"

  • @printthelegends The only game he knew how to play is the hardest game ever? Interesting.

  • 90s music is your friend, especially if it comes from sonic games.

  • Colonel Stinkmeiner approves of this song......

  • Great sound.

    Johnnie

  • The best Sonic theme I've ever heard in my life.

  • AGAIN

    THERE IS NO PSG

  • This theme is a perfect example of "Genesis does what Nintendon't".

  • @animegamingdude This? I personally find the sound quality here to be quite bad, even fi I like these melodies. Go look up "The Adventures of Batman & Robin for the Genesis", to see how great the YM2612 CAN be.

    -dissident93

  • @Renegade466isback What about the sound quality is bad? It's taking advantage of the YM2612's extremely glassy harmonics to emulate the sound of distortion guitars.

  • @SFtheWolf It's just that American composers had bad sounding YM2612 work. Thunder Force 4 had awesome guitar sounds, all created from scratch. Western composers used GEMS, which was simply MIDI to YM2612. I still do like this soundtrack though, but the drums and bass sound really low quality. The distortion for FM is easy, I can do that myself using VOPM.

    -dissident93

  • @Renegade466isback I wonder why people don't like the American designed Genesis audio that much. To me, it's all music from the Greatest system ever created. It ALL sounds good. In my opinion at least.

  • @mistertitanic Because of the quality. Go listen to Beavis and Butt-head for the Genesis. While this does sound good, if could have better sound. In fact, I might remake it with better instruments for comparison.

    -dissident93

  • @Renegade466isback Yes I am sure used to that soundtrack. It has low quality but I don't mind. i still think it sounds good, just different.

  • @mistertitanic But it sounds too low quality. They could have improved it, but they were too lazy. I can make better quality myself for free, at home. But to be far, western composers didn't have any programming experience too, unlike the Japanese.

    -dissident93

  • @Renegade466isback I personally don't care about the sound quality here because I think the song still sounds good. For me, the sound quality would have to suck pretty hard for me to not like a song. Game Boy Mega Man II, I'm talking to you.

  • @Renegade466isback Oh well...Hey, I have 1 question, hopefully you know. What driver did Streets of Rage 2 use? it's the highest quality Genesis game I've heard, and I've heard it uses a custom driver for it's audio.

  • @mistertitanic Actually, it's an unknown custom sound driver, according to SMSPower.

  • @dissident93 Are there any other Custom drivers you know about?

  • @mistertitanic You've never played Puggsy, then.

  • @TheReenix I actually haven't. I really want to though, just haven't gotten around to buying it.

  • Nostalgiagasm

  • 0:42-1:06 best part.

  • I just nostalgia'd. Hard.

  • I would always lose at this level..

  • Ah, brings me back to my old days of sitting in front of my Genesis for countless hours playing this game just trying to get past this one level.

  • I never knew the music was so fucking amazing in this game.....

  • this is VERY similar to the theme for Cortex on Crash Bandicoot or the "Toxic waste" or something like that in the first Crash Bandicoot.

  • Man, I still have my genesis and this game for it. This music is awesome. There is a tribute to this song in the game, Shadow the Hedgehog. In the lava level, they made the music to sound similar. Lava Shelter is the name of the level.

  • i loved this level and the boss music

  • Perfect theme for those who work in foundries!

  • Look, I don't know the specs of the Genesis' and the SNES' sound chips, but i DO know that i ain't NEVER heard some shit THIS RAD pumpin out a Super Nintendo.....

  • @sonicslayton I have, easily. Depends on what you're looking for. For the mood of this, something like Lower Norfair, but the beats and instruments, Major Boss Battle from Yoshi's Island. But NOTHING is like Sonic music because Sonic music makes no flipping sense and sounds like the kind of things you'd hear on Micheal Jackson's flush.

    Or paradise.

    Or hysteria.

    Or fantasia.

    Again, nothing like Sonic music.

  • @sonicslayton

    nintendo - 8-bit

    genesis - 16-bit

    snes - 32-bit

    saturn n64 playstation era - 64bit

    ps2 gamecube xbox era - 128 bit

    now - 256+

  • @Kuribohchaos8 Bahahaha, the SNES was 16-bit as well, my friend. In terms of sound, SNES' sound was sample-based ASDR trickery, while the Genesis had straight-up direct FM synthesis through a MIDI interface. Saturn and Dreamcast were 32-bit in terms of processors and 64-bit graphics, N64 had a 64-bit processor (actually, the most powerful of the three most recent nintendo consoles) and Gamecube and Wii had 32-bits in both departments. 360s pack 64 bits as well, and PS3 packs 128 with Blu-Ray.

  • @SirEnker that's where you're wrong. the nintendo64 had 32 bits, not 64. the gamecube had 64.

  • @Marigio300 Oh, my mistake. Thanks for the correction.

  • @Marigio300 youre wrong. gamecube AND n64 had 64-bit cpu as nintendo skipped the 32-bit step

  • @estlib i did NOT know. I thought 64 was 32-bit. Thanx for the correction!

  • @Marigio300

You're probably getting the Atari Jaguar "do the math" trainwreck mixed up with the N64. Atari tried claiming that the Jaguar was the first (and at the time, only) 64 bit console, which was more of a fabrication than Sega's "Blast Processing" ever could hope to be, as it was a flat out lie: the graphics processor was 64 bit while the CPU itself was just 32.

  • @GravianS look, all i know is that we are talking about nintendo on a sega video.

  • @sonicslayton The Genesis' soundchip used FM synthesis, which allowed it to have a huge range of possible sounds. Obviously you could get some pretty gritty, nasty, and flat-out fucked up sounds out of that soundchip. Some of my absolute favorite music is from Genesis games!

  • This need to be dubstepped.

  • @MissChelDorado I AGREE WHOLE HEARTEDLY~!!

it already sounds incredibly close to dubstep already...

it has a growling bassline, and a very slight wub to it...

it just needs a little help to graduate into the genre completely :3

  • 0:53-1:00 sounds suspiciously like Metropolis Zone.

  • @FragrantRain

    genesis

  • Eternal Champions! (Larcen remix?)

  • Comment removed

  • the music in this game is orchestral

  • @DaveTheSodaGuy0 what does that mean?

  • it means it's much, much better than anything we have nowadays

  • cool 64 likes

  • ..... this sounds exactly like the original. this can't possibly be the remix.

  • @RFMongoose Thats because it is the opriginal.

  • First couple of seconds = Fei Long's theme.

  • This game was the shittt, i remember when i was 7 i bought it from walmart and played it allll dayyy

    :)

  • this stage's music sounds so hardcore

  • i love the music in this game :D

  • I wasn't a very big fan of this game, but I absolutely loved the music. Thanks for posting.

  • Lava Power House... Hmmm... What does that mean? Lava in a house that's powered?

  • @CPKnome335 Not really its a stage that gets tougher and hard to steer sonic on the flippers.

  • @CPKnome335 It likely means a power-house that happens to have lava in it.

  • what was the first genesis game ?...

  • This is worse than getting cancer in the rectum.

  • I hear this is the very first sonic game made entirely by American's. this true? Well, probably because the box says SONIC SPINBALL FROM U.S.A.

  • Damn I love that intro :)

  • This level is so damn hard!

  • bosss killed me like 1000000000000000 times

  • my fave place and music in this game.i found it hard because i was like 5-6 years old playing this game but i found the level fun.my least fave has always been the third level O_o

  • this game has some fucking rad music

  • I never understood how to get out of when the guy is hung by a chain over a lava container, do we have to swing and jump or something?

  • @hoboterror I can honestly say that had cost me a lot of lives on Spinball.

  • I'll be interviewing Howard Drossain for a website a write for soon. Superb sound to this track!

  • probably has to be in my top 10 sonic songs maybe # 1 but sega always had the best music :D

  • I haven't played this game in years, and this song got into my head suddenly at work.

  • COMPUTER MUSIC!

  • This stage's boss is kinda disturbing, every time you hit the Robotnik heads they spew lava in a gross out way.

  • this song is different than i remember. still awsome though...

  • mp3 link is dead, dude.

  • @TheCrimsonChao try this site sonicstyledotcom or sonicstyledoctorg i dont remember the neame

  • loops @ 1:06

  • Too good to be a real thing. Really! Stop making too good songs sega, cause they are playing all the time in my head. I cant stop loving this! I mean none could make it any better cause its perfect like this.

  • @pippelsiini99 yeah, good songs but sucky games these

    days

  • Perfect for THIZZn at any rave

  • Listen to this, and then listen to Lava Shelter, humming the Lava Powerhouse theme during the melody. (Below)

    /watch?v=8fIdee59XcY

  • @Mobius14

    No comparison.

Every non 2d sonic music fails.

  • @GerudoUK You kidding? Sonic had some of the best music of it's generation. Some people just listen to bits of the music and could actually name which song was playing.

Music in video games these days is easily overlooked, because, let's face it, people are probably 90% more interested in graphics..

  • @OriginalLemming

Nobody read my comment properly, amazing.....

  • @GerudoUK Whoops, went back and re-read it. Yes I agree, every NON-2d sonic game has pretty bad music.

  • Sonic Robo Blast 2 actually had more old-school sonic-like music instead of that j-Rock or cliche'd action movie crap or whatever they play in the newer games games.

  • @OriginalLemming

"people are probably 90% more interested in graphics"

    not me.

not all people play black ops, only the 10 years old noobies who have never touched a NES pad

  • @zebdal I'm 11 and I loooove SNES games.

  • @YellowWiz

    I said 10, not 11 8D

  • @YellowWiz Sega Genesis games are better.

  • @zebdal

I'm 12, and I'm a proud player of the classics.

  • @zebdal heh when my mate said do you ant to play kinect i said fuck no give me a d-pad and 2 buttons anyday also fuck blackops its its difficulty has nothing on this especially brrr.. showdown

  • @OriginalLemming Is that an assumption? Have you actually looked at statistics or just the crowd of Black Ops/Halo Reach players?

  • @GerudoUK all of the new 3d sonic games suk sega even admitted that it is a dying series the only good sonic games are the 2d ones 3d sonic games mainly suk (with the exception of the first one that was out for the gamecube that one wasn't bad

  • omg if you jump on the boss head make him puke out lava it almost made me puke shiiiit!!

  • i humm up the song at school and people call me annoying and weird for it lol

  • I love this song ...someone has to play it on the piano.

  • This song is fucking sick! I never got here because unfortunately this game was hard as hell. lol.

  • @aintplayinAround No kidding! The pachinko stage in Super Mario Sunshine is a cakewalk by comparison. One time, I got Sonic Mega Collection and finally beat this after about two hours of play time.

  • The boss of this level has always scared the shit out of me.

  • I Can't Beat This Level Everytime I Was Here I Have Only One Ball! One Time When I Died I See OMG! Extra Ball!!!!

  • Am I nuts, or is this song just slightly different enough to not be the NA version of it?

  • Whut

the psg is missing completely D:

  • I personally didn't like Spinball much, but this song was awesome.

  • I found it a little disturbing at the time that you had to hit the boss' heads to make them puke out lava. That looked nasty.

  • my favorite part of this song is that bass thing going on in the background starting around 0:28 that is freakin kick ass

  • I wish this was the theme song to my life...

  • LOL

  • LMAO!

  • That would be awesome for like ten minutes.

  • @GazelleDJ i agree, i would totally cook breakfast to this song

  • @GazelleDJ Apparently,your life must be AWESOME!

  • Reminds me of a cooker thats about to explode.

Reminds me of a kettle which is at boiling point.

Reminds me of a washing machine spinning away.

In fact this song reminds me of household appliances just doing their thing. I have no Idea why.

  • @GerudoUK

    it actually is that.

  • this level was too fucking easy.

  • But there was a part of the boss sector that made it harder than the one from the first level!

  • Most favorite song in the whole game, but my least favorite stage. That lava pit is something serious.

  • Gah! I always hated this level! It was so damn complicated! But, the song kicked major ass. XD

  • Good song, but I prefer the PAL version that was fixed to the right speed and had the DAC fixed after the first loop.

  • Is there a place to download the songs?

  • this level was so damn annoying! thank god this music was here to save it...

  • cool song

  • I love the song my favorite sonic song besides the carnival zone from sonic 3 but I hate this damn level!

  • I have only two comments about the boss for this stage:

    1. The goddamn Robo-Heads always scared the cr@p out of me. On top of that, at some point when you accidentally leave the Boiler, there's even a message that says, "Getting scared?" No shit, sherlock.

    2. When you accidentally fall into the chamber with a chain and the lava cauldron, you can actually swing on the chain to safety. Careful though, it disappears after a few uses.

  • i've got a third comment for you:

    3. When you damage it, it pukes. Wait, what?

  • I hate this level, I always fall down that damn pit.

  • My favorite level

  • awesome song

  • Simple, yes, but that ticking clock sound really adds to this one.

Heh. You put me on another Sonic kick, man. :P

  • For some reason, this song reminds me so much of the TV show Beakman's World (lol)

  • Thanks a bunch for uploading this song. It is very hard to find it elsewhere

  • YES RENEGADE 466!!! WELCOME BACK!!!
