As a Navy brat in 1955 we were stationed in Napoli. I was 9 yrs. old and we lived in a hi-rise apartment building close to Piazza Medaglia D'oro (sic)? Anyways, I can remember being either despised because I was an American or accepted for reasons beyond me at the time.
My point is this: when I was threatened by the local population it was entirely because I was an American, and therefore somehow responsible for their collective condition. And yet, I loved this city.
