Here in swflorida there everywhere I F"N hate coons !!!!!! .... My plott hound girl 3 months old now ... She'll take care of them pesky coons .... How soon should we train her???
i live in central Florida my property backs up to the Ocala State Forest. my 68lb bull terrier keeps our property free of pests,he's killed quite alot of coons,2 foxes, and ALOT of feral cats(sorry cat lovers but it's not my fault irrisponsable cat owners let their cats roam)he does a great job.
one on the right at the start has a beautiful mouth on him...im positive i could pick him outta a crowd ;) makes me miss my fox hound had her for 12 years
Awesome hounds. These dogs were born to hunt pest animals. Some people can be rude and say some ignorant, uninformed comment.. We can't all be from California :) Don't change a thing!!
It is a hunting sport where you get together and see who has the best dogs you win trophies, trucks, and other stuff including money sometimes 25 bucks other 25,000 depends on the hunt and how good your dog is.
some one tell me why my 1 year old plott mix wont bark at a coon i teased him got him all work up about it and he just wont bark i dont get it tell me why he does that
@Angel14567qw sit on him next to the cage for a while and let the coon growl at him then kick the cage at the dog then watch him go. that's how I got my walker started on the cage because she was scared of it
ok nice vid but i gotta ask u some thing i showed my 1 year old plott mix with treeing walker he wanted it so i teased him and got him all freaked out about it but he wont bark he liked it u could tell by the way he was ripping it apart and stuff i was saying good boy get that coon but he never bark only growled a little when he really got into it . can you tell me what is his problem or why he does that????
Why on scent because they got to know what you want them to chase in the woods. They could run deer or rabbits but if they are used to a coons scent they will tree coons. Scent braking is a major part of training. They got to know right from wrong on scent.
@nwards He is great! he will be 8 on May 10th. He is a bit of a runt the people I got him from did not take care of him and his siblings when he was a baby. He almost died he was so sick. The day I got him it was straight to the vet and $500 dollars later here ya go! Funny thing he has papers and everything his dad was Heat Creek Hogan. He only weighs 53 pounds and he loves to sleep on the couch, he would poop himself if he saw a coon.
This brings back memories. I remember when my dad was trying to grow a water melon garden, he checked them in the morning. They looked fine, but when he picked them up, there were huge holes underneath. Raccoons ate through the melons, hollow. When he finally caught it, he shoved it into the river and let the dogs after it.
Still got him he is a pet and about 35 pounds. I just keep him around and feed him good and the dogs don't get to bark at him no more he is retired sorta lol... The pups get to see him but that's cuz he isn't a killer coon no more just an ole friendly one.
Thanks. lol they both got orange collars but the one you are referring to is Jack He died and he was a good dog and I am still looking for an replacement.
Looks like ya got some great Walkers on yeer hands there!!! Yall got some of the best dogs on youtube. Two ques. if ya will: What do ya think is a better coonhound - Walker, Redbone, Bluetick, or Black and Tan??? And How do you keep your dogs away from rabid coons??? Thanks nwards.... And Keep Em' Treed Buddy!!!
Very interesting question. I've wondered myself a lot. I used to think that Redbones were, but I have come to see that there's something almost otherworldly about a Walker's and especially an English Red Tick's, natural ability to hunt and tree. Those two breeds are truly amazing. I'm partial to Redbones and B&T's since I have them, but the two breeds I mentioned are quite a sight to see when hunting.
we just got a tree walker coon hound pup a couple of months ago and I have to say he is the best dog I've ever had. They are incredibly smart and very affectionate.

Have another dog bark at it. Teasing him should help might take a few tries. Some dogs won't bark at a cage coon but tree them all night.
