I have to laugh at some of the comments people leave here about this video regarding the suit George was wearing and how bad it looked, I don't think the people who came to see him that night could give a toss about what he was wearing, they came to see ex-Beatle George Harrison perform his fantastic music. what else matters??
If you like John Lennon, then you may very well like KOZMIC DREAMERS whose artistic vision and expression, defines them as one of a kind. Buy one of the songs or poems on iTunes.
The Beatles themselves were like other men, but the music and lyrics channeled through them contained magic and hidden messages. To learn how to perceive these hidden meanings, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read through the section about The Beatles.
i hate to say this but ,there is no reason that someone with GH kinda money should be performing in such a badly fitting suit.get a tailor, their not that expensive.other than that GH was alwaays great

@mattp123614 Mate, people like to switch things up a bit. Imagine having to play the SAME song in the SAME way for 20+ years. No matter how good the song is, you'd get bored. If you wanna hear it the way it was on the record, listen to the record?
i will be dead soon too like george and john..but i dont want to come ack..once was enuff..i hate life..i am loser a failure..nothing..piece of trash...hoping in death there is no feeling..no more misery...no existence...life sucks..easier to be miserable to be a failure then to be happy...most humans have shitty lives..i dont laugh much dont feel successful..just a failure..hope i die this week...i have had enuff...fuck this planet..no more people...
George's Hindu and Buddhist philosophy dictated that he should "underachieve." He was too busy living and finding his own contentment to need to put out an album every year and have to deal with the horrible music business and the critics, or constantly be on tour like Paul. He only picked up his guitar when he wanted to. Otherwise he was quite content at home with his family (and ukelele).
@OropherThranduil It's just my opinion that I think that Clapton is overrated. One thing that we agree on is that George is our favorite guitarist of all time. :o)
@OropherThranduil I'm sorry, I beg to differ, knowing Johns and Georges guitar styles, I'd be willing to bet that's a John lead on Yer Blues as for the wildlife version of across the universe, not sure I'm familiar w/it
George wasn't happy to tour- he never was much into fame he preferred making music an raising awareness about things thru music as well as gardening and thinking about religious stuff. He only toured because some business person basically robbed him of what he was due so he needed cash and Clapton offered to be his backing band for a tour
Eric Clapton made George play this one on the tour because it was one of Eric's favorite Harrison songs. Eric said, "For me George's songwriting was closer to what I liked then John and Paul's, even though John and Paul were great, George's songs always had the emotion closer to what I felt." That is a quote. I fell the same way....
It was kind of sad reading in Clapton's utobiography that George just really had no desire to perform anymore and even during this tour seemed detached from the whole thing.
Does anybody know what kind of electric 12-string guitar George is playing here? It certainly doesn't look like a Rickenbacker! I wonder what it is? A Fender of some sort?
A classic Harrison performance, with George on a Fender ElectricXII as opposed to a Rickenbacker...
Andy Fairweather-Low is on camera playing the same runs as George on a capo-ed Strat, and it is, in fact, Eric Clapton (not in shot, unfortunately) who plays the soaring, bending lead breaks along side George's more melodic 12 string lines...
The "Live In Japan" cd has the definitive version of this Byrds-inluenced Harrison classic...
@gtrDan1963 So, Andy fairweather Low is the guitarist in this film clip but Clapton is there too right?
Also, u mentioned Low plays a capo-ed Strat guitar- I've never seen anyone capo an electric guitar before- is it possible and is there a reason why not?
It's not uncommon for an electric player to capo their guitar...Albert Collins did it all the time with special tunings.
Often times a song is written in 1st pos. chording, but sounds better in a different key.
George's melody for "if I Needed..." is written around the "D" chord, but capoed up 7 frets to be played in "A". "Here Comes The Sun" was written in the same manner.
"If I Needed"s" inspiration was the Byrds' "The Bells Of Rhymney".
In fact, the Beatles and Byrds often inspired each other ; The Byrds heard "Ticket To Ride", which inspired "She Don't Care About Time", "The Bells Of Rhymney" begat "If I Needed Someone", "And Your Bird Can Sing" (read as Byrd) begat "Have You Seen Her Face" and finally, as a tribute to his late friend George Harrison, Roger McGuinn recorded a version of "If I Needed..." for his "Limited Edition" cd in 2004...
right, but since without George's use of the Rickenbakcer 12 string there would be no byrds there wouldn't have been a bells of rhimney to influence this song.
@OropherThranduil Absolutely correct...That's why McGuinn did his version of this song as a tribute and "thank you" to his late friend and mentor.
At the time of the Japan shows, George's original Rick 12 was close to 30 years old and George didn't want to risk damging it on the road, hence the use of the Fender XII...
The last recording to feature the 63 was Cloud Nine's "Fish On The Sand" in 1987.
well, i knew all the trivia, but it will go noticed by others.
yeah, i saw roger live last year, was his 67th birthday, little room, 200 people, was very familiar feeling about it, talked a lot between songs, just him and his trusty old ricky and his 7 string, was really really cool, i sat about 2 meters away from him.
@OropherThranduil Sweet...I miised Roger last time he was in town, but to quote another George song from Rubber Soul, "...you've got time to ectify all the things that you should", so next time I'll be sure not to miss him.
yeah, i hope he will come back to my town here in merry ol cologne, germany. xD
and paul in december was also great, first row, right in front of him for 3 straight hours, he's got himself a pretty neat band.
now i'm hoping the beach boys will get together for a 50th reunion tour in 11 and then the stones will reunite with bill to celebrate their 50th anniversary tour in 12, with mick tayor it would even be more awesome.
Have tickets for Paul in Philadelphia on 8 / 14 /10, and am looking forward to it...
Haven't seen either Beach Boys faction since Carl Wilson passed away....Brian was the brain, but Carl was the heart and soul...
If Mike and Alan can put their differences aside, that would be great...
Love Mick Taylor ! Awesome blues guitarist ! John Mayall's "Crusade" is Mick's shining moment for me ! Getting Bill W. back on the road won't be easy, though...
actually alan said they have at least one show planned, with brian, mike, alan, bruce and probably even david marks.
yeah, taylor was the best guitar player the stones ever had, their 73 tour trough europe is still the best live stuff they ever did, especially the brussel concert, unbelivable how great it is, especially jumping jack flash.
i've read bill would like to play with them again, but forgot the source, so it could be someone talking shit, but once there was a link on wiki.

@Danimals411 no, it's Clapton for sure because In 1991, a year after releasing the final Traveling Wilburys album Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3, Harrison was persuaded by his friend Eric Clapton to come out on tour with Clapton in Japan. The album "Livei n Japan' is credited to "Harrison,Clapton & Band" so u know its Clapton
@QueenBeatlesWings well clapton may be there. but so was andy fairwheather-low. and that shot is of harrison and low. i don't think clapton had a receding hairline at that point.
maybe my favorite. I don't know. lol. So many great George Harrison songs. Something, Handle with Care, My sweet Lord, Taxman, and My guitar gently weeps are all so great!
@LewisYoung yes thats a good way to figure out who really came up with the song, even w/ Paul & John they rarely gave away their tune for someone else to sing it.
This is awesome footage that you got here! I'm guessing that you went to the concert? Thank you for this. This is truly one of my favorite George Harrison songs with the Beatles along with I Want To Tell You.

Clapton is one of the greatest Guitarists ever.

yeah, he was so versatile, always perfect, never had the generic guitar sound of the era.
didn't had the urge to show on during solos, but when needed could scream with the best of them like on yer blues.
oh, i think claptons legacy largely builds on the years 65 to 68, his years with the bluesbreakers and cream.
and during that time, with his woman tone, his leslies, his trusted wah pedal and his gibson guitars he could blow hendrix of the stage.
creams early performances of i'm steppin out

@OropherThranduil I'm trying to remember where George screams on Yer Blues, also trying to remember where he played a wah-wah w/The Beatles

John does the first riffing solo, then george takes ober and does the screaming solo.
just like he did on the rolling stones rock'n'roll circus with clapton on lead.
he does the riffing solo, eric the screaming stuff.
the wildlife version was released in 68 on a charity album.
