  • Comment removed

  • Wow and i eat it minus the shrimp..

  • typical junk food. starch, fat, and a bit of meat slapped on together in haste. that is a combination that results in more confusion than harmony.

  • @jyozeff still its healthier than a big mac.

  • OMG!! It's like layer after layer of yumminess!!

  • most of the thing in there are cabbage so it healthy and tasty X3. The bonito flake move because of the steam from the hot food since it is very thin.

  • I made this as best i could at home and the truth is....it's not that tasty, you kinda have to think about the difference in tastes that we have against Japanese people before you go around and make the food, my sister liked it though, LOL

  • what exactly is that moving thing? i am curious.

  • ohmygod lol ..so... is that for each one of them?

  • .....You forgot to add the Kitchen Sink.....

  • I love Osaka and its people.

  • OMG that looks yummy D:

  • @doorfield927 thank you! but why are they moving???

  • whats that stuff on the top at 3:55??

  • @nany293 It's bonito flakes that is called Katsuo-Bushi in Japanese.

  • @nany293 It's called bonito flakes :D It's dried fish in tiny slices. :)

  • One more thing...no more debate about American food vs. whatever country's food...Can we all agree on TWO things: Eating too much food and not exercising makes any person fat AND that the food in the video is looks delicious? I'm sure the person who posted it will appreciate that...Thank you.

  • looks really good!

  • is this okonomiyaki??

  • Eat this make you strong!

  • Gross

  • It is NOT bugs, it is Bonito Flakes, they are dried shavings of tuna, it is moving because the steam is coming up from the bottom and the wind of the steam is strong enough to make those tissue paper like flakes to wave and move.

  • @TommieDuhWeirdo im not sure theur flakes cos in the vid they mention the words "Can you see the eyes?"

  • nice cake

  • Okonomiyaki is so good. Worms and bugs.. wtf? Classic Youtube comments.

  • FUCK WORM !! DISGUSTING ! SHIT !

  • 風月か めずらしいな

  • looks good

  • The things moving are called Bonito Flakes which is basically dried shavings of fish i guess

  • dude wats that moving around it looked good at first but than after he put that bug shit all over that was wierd!!

  • I'm seeing at least 6 different types of vegetables in there.

  • Anyone got an explanation of what I just witnessed going down on that griddle? What the heck was up with the bug looking doods.

  • american food it's sucks everythingh it's fake and fat!!!! i love japan but i am a italian

  • wow..i really love vegeas :D

  • Really want to eat that!~ Enough to me for a lunch.

  • 風月っぽい

  • For a second there. I though I could smell that cooking. oh god im hungry for this...

  • It's kind of Japanese pizza. We cost too much in eating a pizza in Japan but instead okonomiyaki is very reasonable.

  • What are the things that are moving :O ?

  • It's called "Katsuobushi", Katsuo means bonito or skipjack in English =) Katsuobushi is frequently used in Japanese dishes. We can make it first drying bonito up, and next chopping it up.

It's moving because of rising air. It's not living so don't worry!

  • Ohh. Lmao i thought it was worms or something.

    Ty :) <3

  • Those look good

  • is that a style of okonomiashi ?

i was vegan too, but to the japanese food I couldnt resist. sorry ..

  • Lol vegan'er fail ^.^

  • vege tempura on rice with black sesame. vegan mayor of yummy town!

  • yeah but did u know that the batter they used for tempura has egg in it?

  • ok, you get around that, but try ohitashi, a spinach and sesame food with a dise of rice. yummmmmmm. Do a little research and I'm certain you will find vegan subs to make a lot of wonderful foods.

  • lol actually i think my parents used 2 make those.... not sure though XD

  • 美味そう

  • Makes me hungry :)

  • Can somebody please tell me what the things were that were moving at 3:45?

  • @choccojo

That's katsuobushi (bonito flakes) - shaved, kiln-dried tuna or salmon.

  • Ohhh I see. Thank you very much :)

  • bonito -- dried tuna flakes

  • Many thanks Jilly bean :)

  • I also had this gourmet treat. Wish i could get it here in Canada.

  • ive been to this place, they have some delicious Okonomiyaki. I really wanna go there right now lol

  • what is this made of? what is it called? can you get this in NYC? please advise i have to try this

  • OMG! That looks so good !

  • Huntoni oishi !

  • This okonomiyaki looks like the mix of Osaka style okonomiyaki and Hiroshma style okonomiyaki. What's the taste like ?

  • I recently moved to japan and so far my favorite food is Takoyaki, I can't wait to try more.

  • omg okonomiyaki wa oishi desu!

  • look yummy...im hungry...

  • at the end they add bonito flakes which is like really thin dried fish and because its so thin the heat makes it bend around for a while haha its SO YUMMY

  • they just keep building it and building it! its like a fricken monster! thats probably how godzilla was made.. lol

  • Comment removed

  • That's not insects. It is is finely shaved Bonito flesh called "katsuobushi".

  • yummuu. okonomuyaki with yaki-soba on top <3

is that bonito flakes on the top? why was it moving? o.o i thought bonito flakes were dried

  • Bonito flakes are moving because of the heat

  • looks yummy at first, but what's the hell in the last few footages? Is that worm?

  • this is okonomiyaki.

its very cheap if you make it.

  • what the hell is that grilled "salad-spaghetti-egg-burger"?

  • dude..japanese ppl pwn all!!! :D

  • OMG, that looks yummy!

I love japanese food, even more in restaurants where they cook it at the table (but it´s also expensive; at least here in Germany). Do they always cook at the tablre in japanese restaurants in Japan?

  • No not always.

  • its bonito flakes, they're dry, but when they're put on hot food, they move like that ^^

  • YOSHINOYA!

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • So much food, so small plates :P

  • okay...so i read about the moving stuff..haha! whew..this is a MOUND of food!looks good, but dang, i would have to split it with at LEAST one other person!YUM!

  • I like this food.. is it okonimiyaki? i miss eat this food...

  • Smím se optat co to všechno obsahovalo?

  • Looking fattening, but not unhealthy - American food is fattening and unhealthy.

  • Correction: American FAST Food is fattening and unhealthy.

  • indeed it is. to make a more valid point i worked at BK for a few months in stock and had to order the beef patties, in 3 days we went thru 10 boxes each contains 120 patties and each box weighing in at 40 lbs. not including fries or anything that really made me back off of fast food joints real fast. im rather disgusted still on how much on small town can eat that.

  • @sweetdenni agreed! japanese ftw!

  • @sweetdenni yes it contains too much fat and fry oil

  • @sweetdenni yep yep, cant even imagin how to eat Fast food shit every day..... but ill eat the heck out of this though

  • @sweetdenni our fast food is basically meat, cheese, and sugar.

  • @sweetdenni Ya, American food is unhealthy. You can see the results in heart attack and stroke statistics is alarmingly high. America is still young country and doesn't really have a good healthy history of food choices. Perhaps when their culture grows a bit older,..say in 1000 years maybe their food will be healthier. Japanese people got it right and are one of the healthiest people in the world because of their food. Can't beat thousands of years old recipe. I'll eat asian food over burger.

  • @tkathryyn So if I eat a salad with an olive oil vinaigrette, just because the food was produced in America it's unhealthy?! I agree a lot of Americans food choices are unhealthy, but that's what they are...CHOICES...It's up to individuals to decide what's best for them to eat. There is nothing wrong with eating a hamburger, a candy bar, or drinking a soda pop in moderation. Our "American" food isn't really "American", it's a collaboration of foods from other countries, so THANKS for the recipes

  • @sweetdenni I didn't say all American food is bad. Nothing wrong with eating hamburgers. There are Mc Donalds and KFC and other American fast food restaurants in Asian countries. What is different is that the portion that people eat. and Fast Food doesn't make it any better when consumption is more than average. American food is indeed a collaboration of foods from other countries. There are many food to choose from,..healty food too, but instead many Americans like conveniently eat.

  • Also, think about the cost of food here US... Burger and fries $2. Bag of Apples $6. And don't be someone who makes a low income. 2 weeks of eating fast food = barely one week of groceries. As for the history of food in America, we ate heartier foods because until about 40-50 years ago more people worked more physically demanding jobs...now we all have internet and cable and sit on our butt at work and home...so it's all about whether you want to live a healthy life or not...CHOICES.

  • @sweetdenni I agree with you that eating fast food is sometimes cheaper than eating healthy food. But how do you explain the middle class and rich people being obese. And there's tons of them in the midwest America. The answer is "choice". When there's fast food joints everywhere you look, it's kind of hard to avoid them especially when they are cheaper and convenient. This epidemic needs to hit rock bottom before the people start doing something about it to make better choices in the future.

  • @sweetdenni what's the difference?

  • @sweetdenni

They're both unhealthy and fattening but Okonomiyaki is 100 times better than American grease burgers for sure.

  • Mmmm.. ^_^*

    NyammY!!

  • Osaka foods are bad for diet...

  • you should say osaka foods are good for non-diet people

  • Won't it be easier if the chef had some

    bigger bowls to stir with?

  • That small bowl serves as measuring cup

  • What are these little thing that were moving(insects)???

  • Shrimp?

  • Bonito flakes

  • I love this very much!

  • I go for the women.....but I stay for the food.

  • This place looks and sounds like a White Castle at 2:00 am.

  • Wow, amazing okonomiyaki!! :O

  • mmmmmmmmm.. Okonomiyaki.. Yumm

  • wth was the stuff he put on it that was moving? was it shrimp? i couldn't tell .___.

  • Bonito Flakes. They're basically these paper thin flakes. What is making them move is the steam coming off of the grill... it's not like they're alive or anything.

  • im currently learing japanese and this is the best okonokiyami video on YOUTUBE!

ill be going to the university of Tokyo in the summer of 09 and im relly thinking about moving to japan when i finish college.i wasnt sure to go to Tokyo,Kyoto, or Osaka.but after watching anthony bourdanes no revervatoins of osaka japan and how theres so much city life and FOOD! its OSAKA HERE I COME !!

    ありがとう

  • if i was born in japan, i would love everything about japanese and be proud of it, but because im not, im forced to think and apply my feelings and thoughts on a opposition perspective. Also, I tend to be perverse, which means, although it's the greatest news, I'm going to hate it and just ignore it. Really, I'm just extremely jealous because I don't have those things here as well. Why can't there be two japans? One in canada and the other in Japan? LOL

  • omg that was so cool, the pink stuff on top was moving ahaha...xD what is this dish exactly

  • aye, that they are lol

  • Okonomiyaki restaurant "FUGETSU"

  • why not a bigger bowl to mix lol.

  • thats the fun of it , to see the food filling it

  • omgomg im soo hungrey

  • looks yummy

  • dis is "okonomi yaki"

  • u guyz no what this idsh is called? i really would like to know so i can buy it somewhere. Ty

  • I may be wrong but it looks like Okonomiyaki. Which is basically just a batter like pancakes with whatever you want in it. Think pancakes meets stir fry.

  • That looked delicious until I saw some kind of worms wiggling around in it.What the heck was that?

  • bonito flakes

  • Lol...that's only the steam making the dried fish flakes move about. It's only steam. :) Don't worry...I thought the same thing when I was a kid.... "Mom...why is it moving?"

  • can someone tell me what that moving crawling thing is???

  • fish flakes

  • This kind looks like a Hiroshima style, piling up different layers starting from meet and vegetables, then egg noodles, and finally a sunny-side-up egg on the top.

  • ROFL!!

  • DAM IT IT LOOKS SO DAM GOOD I WANT SOME

  • The first time I saw the Bonito flakes wiggle around like that it freaked me out but man are they tasty!

  • I Love okonomi-yaki BUt I've not seen it made this way. Looks delicious!

  • Intersting! This is a new style okonomi-yaki combing Hiroshima style and Osaka style.

  • okonomiyaki is the best
