  • Can i have that for my car?

  • turbo... TOOO BIG, get a smaller turbo from a 1980's honda city turbo or something(smaller), that brigs will never have enough flow to properly compress a decent about of air...

  • how efficient is that turbo on that system??? lol... good project

  • Pretty cool keep that turbo Lubed or it may not last long. And you should have a strong connecting rod in that engine so it don't blow up. Fuel injection to very cool. I like it. Good Job

  • You rock. Great job. I love the sound of a turbo.

  • Crappy Megasquirt? I know of a 9 second Turbo 4x4 Silverado, and a 10 second Turbocharged Granada with a 5.3 using a Megasquirt quite successfully.

Cool project though, you gotta start tinkering somewhere and that's a helluva lot cheaper than starting with a car.

  • that engine would have to be running at like 30,000 rpm to spool that big a turbo.

  • why...just why!

  • Too big of a turbo, but other than that, nice work!

  • @RealCadde @Sheltiemanva

Shake your dicks,, this pissing contest is Over!

    Heh

  • you need a smaller turbo!

  • Better to just build a naturally aspirated fast engine in that class IMHO

  • Very interesting

  • There is no way that motor can produce the flow required to spool the turbo.. Yes it may create a SMALL flow increase but not enough to make any of the time or money spent worth it unless someone did it for a school project or just to say "hey check this out. yes its functional" but as to power wise it prolly doesnt make a difference.

  • @Gir42069 those little motors put out alot more power than you seem to know. lol to you...

  • 1:29 !! xDD

  • I wanna take the engine out of my neon and put this in it hahaha

  • Great engine!

Did you find that the turbocharger for this engine provided more or less compression than your supercharged engine?

Check you my channel, I will be making a supercharged 8HP briggs soon.

Subed you, keep up the good work!

  • Usually, I reserve a real reply for someone with a brain. However, in case someone actually watches this that HAS a brain, note that the turbo is sized like a 1.8 to 2.5 liter gas engine would use. The whistle you hear is not the turbo "boosting" but merely coming up to speed. With short pipes like that, in person, you could likely hear the turbo make noise all the time.

Put it on a dyno and make the movie. All that thing does is restrict the exhaust flow and make whistle noise. TURBO TOO BIG!

  • You Sir, are one badass dude! that'sawesome-

  • Comment removed

  • Don't let the Chinese see this. They'll be making it tomorrow.

  • use a small turbo from a small diesel

  • Of course, the turbo is totally useless, since you never get even close to the flow needed for the thing to actually boost. Nice toy though.

  • @sheltiemanva You can hear when the boost kicks in you dimwit

  • @RealCadde You are the dimwit sir if you think that is the turbo "boost kicking in." Go forth. Learn. Read. Try to pick your knuckles up off the ground so they dont drag when you walk. Oh, and about the smell on that hand of yours...in the US, the white stuff on the roll in the bathroom...try wiping with that instead of your hand. The smell will go away. ;>)

  • @sheltiemanva Nice attempt at being funny but i am neither laughing nor feeling offended. You are still the idiot here because you can clearly tell the effects it has on the engine after it has spun up.

Oh, why don't you try it yourself? Run it with and without the turbocharger on and show us how it has no effect what so ever. I am going by what i see and hear. If you don't like it that i am right then keep making up shit that you think is funny. You are still a dimwit, no need to say more...

  • @RealCadde Ahh yes...the turbo pro. You hear the RPMs come up because it starts to let the air flow when the fins spin.

Sorry Charlie, only smart people get to call others dimwit.

How many turbo's have YOU added to different engines?? I have done four. (Been around for a few dances)

It is too big to do any good. No matter what you say.

    OK I am done now...dimwit.

  • @sheltiemanva Well boo hoo. Why don't you post a video of your expert turbo work then? You have a camera and you are obviously not afraid to use it or show your big stature in it. Show us your engine building skills... You seem to know how to use them but that's as far as it goes.

    Dimwit.

  • @RealCadde First, let me thank you for using your proper name. Second, all that stuff was done in the days of VHS and I have no idea if there even are videos of our diesel and gasoline creations.

Why not ask the guys who sell turbos? You are bright enough...even with Dimwit for a name, they will speak to you and explain the exact same thing I did.

    Take care big feller!

    JD

  • this is what ford put in thier lines

  • how are you measuring airflow?

  • How does the turbo get lubricated

  • @michaelpack1988 It is not necessary for all turbos to have an oil line , the need of lubrication usually applies to big turbos, designed for bigger engines.

  • i thought it was the sign Turbo that made it go faster

  • @bobsmedoggy not sure what is funny, perhaps you are high, or maybe a bit slow, in which case I will try and help you understand. Basically the ignition these engines are fixed into its flywheel, you could replace this setup with a custom one, with a hall effect style pickup coil, then use the signal generated by that and put it into a programmable micro controller such as a picaxe, arduino, ect, and have your own programmable ignition.

  • @bobsmedoggy The timing could be set electronically, you could program something like a picaxe to do simple ignition timing on a single cylinder engine very easily.

You could have the internals balanced better to be safer at higher rpms, you could also reduce the stroke. Custom piston and rod to lighten up the rotating mass some would help as well. Open up the head some so it flows better at higher rpm. Custom ground camshafts are fairly easy to get made, if you have the cash...

  • Where did you get your turbo?

  • Runs like shit huge lag, put it on something and lets see the rubber meet the road

  • how much psi does the turbo make?

  • @bobsmedoggy LMFAO! It's connected to the exhaust you plank so of course it's going to restrict it! As a matter of fact i do know how the timing is set on a briggs, not that that has anything to do with my comment. A word of advice, there are some excellent courses these days on English / spelling for mentally retarded people, you may wish to consider it. I'd hate to think you didn't realise your full potential in life....Thanks for the laugh fella

  • What is your boost pressure? That thing sounds EPIC!

  • were did you get the turbo?

  • Funny!!! As for porting the valves... why? A turbo that size is never gonna do anything but restrict it anyway..!

  • did you at least port the valves?, I can't tell you how many teenagers bolt on a turbo to their ricer without any other mods and think it will do better, most of the time it bogs the engine, and kills the efficiency.

  • @UGLandrum

Thats kinda true... But porting is not needed to make hp gains with a foreced injection setup unless you are trying to go do 1/4 mile stuff. A stock d16 honda has around 110 hp and by bilting on a turbo you can make around 300hp with some injectors and a tune. SO I would ask ... Did you even increase the fuel on this? Or is it running lean as hell?

  • Very cool

  • How are you lubricating the turbocharger ?

  • I love it

  • I love the big TURBO emblem on the side of the engine, its like you cant already see the huge turbo sticking out...

  • that would make an awsome mini bike or go kart

  • Hi, What sort of turbo is that im trying to get a smaller turbo because i have one but its to big it wont spin up on my briggs and stratton 12.5hp

    Cheers.

  • VW tdi (turbo diesel) turbos are small for quick spool up on low revs. You might see if you can get your hands on one of those.

  • @Adrizz5447 just get a turbo from a smart car they good for small engine like bikes or probly even this

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

  • You want a small turbo, look at a twin turbo RX7 The turbo is the size of a soda can.

Also only people who I have ever heard say that Megasquirt is crappy, are the ones who can't get it running LOL

  • @PKudu Megasquirt IS crappy. It's incredibly limited. But for small engines, I don't know. I always went with AEM or Motec but then I'm into bigger engines for drag racing.

  • @PKudu Haha no kidding, I have it ms 2 running on my car, it runs pretty good!

  • You want a small turbo, look at a twin turbo RX7 The turbo is the size of a soda can.

  • hey man... nice work... anyone who slams ur project has never even remotely tried to fab anything as a kid... anywho... I am trying to fuel inject a small engine and a bike with an arduino. Would you be willing to give up any information about ur fuel injection? you can message me if you want

  • -WTF LOL

  • awesome, turbos usually work best if the intake if fucking plumbed....

  • Whats wrong with megasquirt ? Lot of people have done well using that

  • sounds like there's a lot of stress on that eninge, you should add a pump to it so that the oil can flow better, you might bend a valve if not.

  • Put a pressure gauge on it to see if your even boosting! lol

  • Tune that right and it will be very powerful, could probebly squease out 10hp easily! Mabe put a high rpm kit on it such as racing parts?

  • Aslo, I wouldent get my fingers thta close to a spooled turbo. It will chop um off.

  • @webdesign212 The scene with the fingers near the turbo gave me flashbacks. We had a poor apprentice mechanic doing an initial dyno set-up of a Detroit Diesel 12v71T with two AiResearch T18A40 turbos. He decided to fire it up to check for fuel leaks on the jumpers while it was idling. He forgot to put on the compressor inlet guards. His hand was sucked toward one of the turbos – only cut off the tip of his middle finger, but twisted it 4X’s 360 degrees. Unpleasant.

  • @jazzdrummer54

    OUCH!!!!

I have heard of this happening more then once! Anyone that works with turbos should really remember this!

  • Try aT25 turbo off a mitsubishi eclipse. Also, how are you supplying oil to the turbo?

  • I wonder how you get a turbo to live since most Briggs engines don't have an oil pump?

  • This is cool, but your spelling is terrible, and Megasquirt is a very very good EMS. They use it on REAL engines, some making 1,000+hp.

  • an EFI motor... Ill stick with mounting the carb on the turbo.

  • How do you oil the turbo with a splash (no oil pressure) engine:?

You need to LOAD the engine to make the turbo work. Find some kind of a water pump and then put a restrictor valve on the outlet to load it.

  • try a bike turbo like a suzuki hyabusa or another sport/cruzer bike

  • just outa curiosity tho how much boost is it makin?

  • the idea is good the tubo is way to big and you need a load on the engine to spool the turbo free reving an engine with a turbo is not going to make any boost

  • ....Hey DJ, Check out the "CAPTIVE PULSE ENGINES", they use a supercharger on a single cylinder.......just search you tube....also Robin/Subaru EX21 is available with a low pressure fuel injection system from the factory.....211CC engines....

  • ever tried to use them in a go kart for example???

  • saying a megasquirt is crappy ... please , stop the bullshit ...

  • poor engine haha, that blower is practley the size if the engine

  • i want one :(

  • My name is adam from asheville nc are you interested in selling this set up and how much let me know.

  • Both Honda and Yamaha made turbocharged motorcycles 20 or so years ago. I don't know if any of them are around anymore or not, or if they are collectible or not. (Probably are!) They hav very tiny turbos.

  • you mean ground up, and vuala!

  • @whatsdare Actually it's "viola"... You almost looked smart, though..

  • @hundizzar haha you got it wrong too!

  • @hundizzar Viola is a musical instrument....the word you two are trying to spell...is VOILA .......

  • how are you pumping oil to it?

  • Dude, you're a genius! =) This is pretty damn cool!!

  • now connect it to a skateboard :D

  • That guy must have a huge lawn!

  • you need a bobcat turbo! with that one it will be like c'mon spool c'mon spool please spool!

  • get a bov lol, (compressor surge)

  • lol that sounds sweet

  • Have you mounted it to something yet? I bet you can push some pretty big tires with it.

  • I have to have this amazing set up on my gokart!

  • @Motorfordtoyota you will not go anywhere faster.the problem with this is a turbo needs at least 2 cylinders!the opposing cylinder while open in the intake is fed through the power of the opened exhaust of the second cylinder.one cylinder will not feed it self.once the exhaust is closed the spool slows so the only time the turbo will work is at 3 to 4k and you'll be lucky to get 3 psi maybe 2 -3 mph difference.

  • @Motorfordtoyota just by a new cam and head and aluminum flywheel from acr racing.you should be able to do a min of 70mph

  • @blackrowstones Yeah, I was joking. I actually want a snowmobile engine on it. But when was the last time you priced a Head, Cam, and Flywheel for a gokart. Cause im 14 and have NO income cept bday and christmas money. ANd Id have to buy an engine. The one it had bit the dust (hard use) and the one I bought for other means (minibike) dont fit.

  • @Motorfordtoyota all 3 for about 400$ depending on the cam they range from about 60 to 150.but if you realy want a badass kart find a honda crf125 or 250 6 speed and learn how to wield and fabricate it onto you cart.you could hit 100mph depending on the gearing and engine.you can find those engines at salvage yard for 500 to 800$

  • that's awsome! I need to do that to my lawnmower lol

  • Nice, i like it. I have always wanted to do this. If your looking for a smaller turbo i would check scrap yards for ford probes. I have noticed some have small turbos on them and im sure u can get them for cheap, and they might work.

  • @Bjorn37 suzuki cappuchino turbo ftw but you can buy smaller kkk and IHI turbos off the shelf

  • @Bjorn37 i was just thinking about that!!! wow thats funny! turbo was super small and the car had all the bottom end in the world!! perfect setup for this!

  • @Bjorn37 - Or buy a KP31 or TD02 off ebay. Those are very small turbos, smaller then probes and would run correctly with a lawnmower type engine. TD02 would be your best bet, more common, and some brand new on eBay. I was thinking of getting one for a 400cc engine I have because that is apparently the perfect size engine for one, but will work between 200cc and 500cc.

  • Free Energy is real and it's here but the coverup is strong, if u r interested in a REAL free energy magnet motor then

just go to LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM and download the blueprints ,it's probably the ONLY working magnet

motor out there. Join the free energy revolution!!

  • turbo lag from hell! is that an garrett air research? i have one on a 79 mercury capri turbo 2.3. seal the wastegate up, or try a smaller charger, bigger motor, always remember, if it can be turboed, it should be!

  • @not2hye

    No.

This is not a best aplication of turbo.

Good work getting this far but nothing is gained by it

  • Very nice but will be some turbo lag.. Clean build put that on a go kart you full throttle and break stand and you will smoke em all

  • that is so bad ass, I cant get over how nice the set up is. Good job!!

  • thats pretty epic.you should be proud.

  • put on kart

  • what kind of fuel injector did you use?

  • Awesome! I must have run into this video several times over the tear and rewach it it is so cool!

  • Look's like the seal's are shot on that snail.

Just a couple of pointer's. With such an oversized turbo it might help if you shorten that exhaust and make it a straight shot into the turbine. If you drop the inner diameter of the compressor side you might get better pressure level's out of it. What size turbo is that? Look's like a T28 or T3.

  • Does it even make boost? Infact, does it even make a difference?

  • you dude put the motor in something

  • RPMS MAKES THE BOOST ..YOU ARE SHOWING ME NONE AT 2 MINUTES ...BYE

  • I Love your idea =D

  • Sweet Idea, would love to have my Bonanza turbo'd

  • Awesome work dude... but i wanna remind you to let the turbo get to really low rps before shutting the engine off

  • ive heard single cylsinders cant keep a turbo spooling :\ cause its an exhaust pulse, not a constand flow, is it holding boost! my friend wants me to turbo his quad and i dont know what to say :(

  • @NASTYTHEBOY An interesting question, I’d imagine that the back and forth pulsation in the exhaust wouldn’t be the best for creating boost, but the exhaust still has to go somewhere, so it still should spool the turbo, just not very efficiently. Personally, if you actually do end up making boost, I’d be more worried about carburetion and lifting the cly head. The carb on these engines just isn’t designed for a turbo. But anything is possible.

  • @Warblade118 well i guess well find out ;)

  • @NASTYTHEBOY Good luck. If you get your turbo quad working post a video!

  • @Warblade118 FA sho, ive learned alot thus far and im not about to quit anytime soon :p check out my channel for my turbo mazda 6 project.... super low budget and pure evil ;D

  • I hope he keeps up the work. You gotta start somewhere.

  • This isn't a motor, there is no power cord. It appears to be a internal combustion ENGINE! HaHa.... motor.......

  • I'd give anything to know how much HP this setup would be capable of once properly tuned!

  • do you have to have efi system to put a turbo on a briggs?

  • Hp + o- ?

  • Needs boost gauge

  • the motor looks like its goin apeshit.. but i really wish i could see the rpms and how they climb and induction and stuff. cool motor

  • how is the turbo getting oil preassure?

  • GARRET~!

  • @sof1map thats my name.....

  • Hey mate, how did you do to make your own EFI computer? What did you use? Don't worry about what idiots on here have to say, most of them are practicing their one handed typing! Just be careful with putting your hand over the front of the Turbo, a friend nearly had his fingers taken off, when we were testing a supercharger doing the same thing! Have a look at my Sigma, I used a modified Bosch/Denso EFI system to run it (Big cam, Supercharged, Alcohol and petrol injected etc), regards, Glen.

  • would make a sexy ass go kart engine

  • yeah I think that turbo is way to big, you should get one off a bobcat or something small of that nature. Them turbos are dinky as shit and would spool quick for your application. good luck I like what I see so far.

  • Whoa!!

  • not a very good way of shutting down

  • really nice build! keep working on cool stuff like that! turbo gocarts next? :D

  • the lawn mower won't need wheels, it will hydroplane across the lawn.

  • @djrevolution

turbo is kind of big nice set up though

try the IHI RHB 31 VZ21 its very small and is made for atv s lawn mower and gokarts

cost about 200 to 300 with 50 harware parts included

  • this is awsum i want 1

  • right on man! good work! how did u supply the oil to turbo?

  • need a lil baby turbo like of a smart car or sumin!

  • i dont know what the point of this is but who cares..keep it up.

  • damm you should have gotten a brigs v twin and di it, then you would have gotten the potential out of that turbo... eh?

  • where in the world do you find a turbo that small

  • douchbag.

  • So I don't get exactly how the turbo works. Does the exhaust from the engine drive the turbo which compresses the air before its mixed with fuel and forced into the piston for greater horsepower or what?

  • This is a neat idea, I love turbo ANYTHING, that's why I'm a big tractor pull fan, but my question is where is the turbo getting pressurized oil for the bearing from ? There's got to be an aux pressure pump somewhere out of camera view because Briggs of this vintage were splash lubricated only I believe.

  • you my friend are my new hero... good work

  • This is almost as crazy as the guys who were tryin to blow a mower engine up by feeding it a 100HP "wet shot" of nitous!

    9 outta 10 for complexity!

  • I like the creativity, but a T-3 turbo is WAY too big for that motor, a T-12 or T-15 might produce usable boost. Props though.

Oh, and Megasquirt is not crap, it rocks!!!

  • Part TWO

Once on boost the whole cycle starts again only with boost forcing more gases to turn the exhaust wheel housing to a healthy cheery red whilst whistling away on a 5 hp 206 cc Briggs and Stratton. Try it I did but sorry no vid :-( ps watch out for the flames out the back of the dump pipe. he he

  • The turbo requires more volume of gas to actually spool it to produce boost. The turbo you have probably needs at leased 600 cc to make it come off vacuum and produce a positive pressure. The only way to get it to spool is to drill and tap two holes into the the area between the exhaust housing inlet & flange, From here one is injected with Nitrous the other methanol. The exhaust gases ignite the methanol with the No2 making it burn faster and push the gases out allot quicker spooling the turbo.

  • cant beat a turbo .. nice project

  • how many horses ?

and can you put that in a kart or something to drive ? :p

  • Haha, that thing is crazy!

Crazy awesome though, I want a turbocharged lawnmower :D

  • Good effort mate :) Try a smaller rear housing on your turbo though, your not getting enough pressure for the turbo to boost. Your on the right track though, look forward to seeing future versions :)

  • That right there, is the best way to learn something... get your hands dirty and do it. Good job!

  • WOW! That right there... is the best way to learn something - get your hands dirty and do it. Good job!

  • You should try to get a hold of a v-twin 16hp Honda and hook that turbo up to it instead... now that would be sweet..

  • nothing wrong with megasquirt - can you run your home made ecu on any engine in existance?and you need a much smaller turbo to make a usable power curve for that engine

  • hmm nice, how much psi is it running :D

  • megasquirt is sweet, dont know what your problem with it is.

  • that's awesome.

  • anyone else thinking mini dragster?

  • why

  • needs smaller turbo
