I got a monte too. Same color actually lol look exactly the same. I got a little Tick when I start mine up but it goes away once it's warm. I believe that's normal for this motor, correct?
@aliaslash33 yea you are correct sir lol, yea most of the 3.4, and 3.1L have a slight tick noise when cold, nothing serious, how many miles are on yours?
@aliaslash33 hmm if youve already had the lower intake gaskets done, or if you dont know, then i wouldnt worry about it at all then you should be fine
Interesting... Never heard of your thread issue, but I suppose it's possible. Typically, the problem with these 3.4L's and the 3.1L's is that the intake gaskets go bad and the coolant leaks into the engine oil, which leads to the hydraulic lifters not "pumping up" correctly, and you get some to a LOT of "ticking" noises coming from the engine. Can sound like minor ticking, all the way to sounding like there are gremlins throwing a fuckin' rock throwing party inside your engine when it's running.
@SuperTurboDiesel2 so thats why i hear so many of these engines lightly or mildly ticking, yea the first time it happened, the back middle intake rocker poped out, sounded like shit the exhaust was shooting back into the intake, and i didnt know wth was wrong lol, so i did some research and found someone had this problem so i brought it to my dads buddies shop and when he popped the valve cover off thats when he found out the rocker bolt ripped out
@SuperTurboDiesel2 so after about 2 yrs later 2 more popped in the front so did a lil more research and found out if the rockers arent tightened down to the exact spec later on in time theyll eventually rip out, cuz of the aluminum threads not being strong enough
@camposwilliam62 well when it first did it, i think it had like around 74 or 76kish but if its running real rough, ticking kinda loud, and u got an engine light for a misfire code, most likely this is it, cuz wat happens is when whoever changed the lower intake gaskets must have overtightened the rocker arm bolts, since ive had mine, ive done 1 in the back and 2 in the front, if u can get a vid up id be able to tell a lil bit more, but if it sounds like mine did, then its prolly the same
@Mikeyssss Yup...as I suspected. I did the same search you did and sure enough I have the same problem. Thanks for the tip dude, I'll surely do the same repair. Did your engine come through afterwards? Bet it sounds and hums like normal again.
@camposwilliam62 aww man she runs like new again lol yea i think the kit was like $20, but im not that good at doing the precise type stuff, so i brought it to my dads friend who i bought my bike from, it only took him like less than an hour to do the front ones, but the back took like almost 2 or 2 1/2 cuz of being in a tight spot, but yea the heli coils are like 3 times stronger than the original threads, but ive beat on it for almost 2 yrs, and the back one is still mint
@bladerunner555 yea they are, the most exspensive part i bought was a computer from the dealer, $200, but in the part store i think the most was like $30 lol
@bladerunner555 yea the water pumps are whicked easy to change, i flushed my coolant a couple summers ago, and the pump started leaking, i paid 20 something for it, only took about 25min to change

hey how many miles do you have in it? I have the same problem with my Impala and I have only 67k. So it could be rocker arm bolts, huh?
