@rjoannon de hecho el nombre antiguo (en inglés) de ese lugar es Sandy Point (así aparecía en los mapas y fue puesto por exploradores ingleses), el término geográfico "punta" en inglés sí es "point". En español es "punta arenosa" que luego se deformó en "Punta Arenas".
