I don't understand all these statements about James being an asshole. All of the best directors have to be just like that, if you aren't the film will not come out the way you envisioned it and the movie execs walk all over you and screw up your movie just like with Alien 3.

@CamiloSanchez1979 The reason his movies work so well is because he makes them his way, with everyone else either obeying, delivering what suits his vision, or getting kicked out. What might appear to you as 'being an asshole' when you look at it, while you're merely an observer and not taking part in the creative process, is what actually makes his stuff soooo good. It's that little something that other directors who can never get close to him can't quite put their finger at.

I don't now what's more dooshy that people who work very hard to get something which is stupid just right so that it's successful, and then point to the success of it as evidence that they're brilliant and have "vision". And that's where you find that personality type that says, "being a hard-a** makes me neat". They genuinely think the reason their populist movies are successful is b/c they have an insight that artsy fartsy types, in their pretentiousness, only believe they have.

@ion010101 While the real reason their populist movies are successful is because they are just that, populist; their stories don't go deeper beyond what meets the eye or at most trot out tired platitudes e.g. corporate (interplanetary) imperialism bad, me the director, for pointing it out with a sledge-hammer, good. Only, in real life, to turn around and sign up with coca-cola - the posterchild of cultural and every other imperialism if there ever was one- to promote his next movie world wide.

Poor James Horner. I SO understand what he's talking about. WOW. He gets a gold medal for putting up with all of that. I LOVE this film and ultimately, it all came together incredibly.

@lcowles I'm totally with Horner here. I have the special edition soundtrack and what he accomplished was incredible. It's sad that so much of his score was chopped up throughout the movie. There is a piece of music on the soundtrack written for the sequence where they're fighting/escaping as the aliens are coming through the ceiling, which you can sync with the movie & it's absolutely perfect. But in the movie, it cuts in and out, goes away, & is replaced w/other music. To me, it's tragic.
