Aha....here's where some of the talent, that was so prevalent in the 70's, went. Thanks Small Potatoes. Looking forward to seeing you at the Yardarm!!!
They played a few years back at the 2nd annual Fortune Lake Festival in Crystal Falls, MI. As an event organizer, I had the pleasure of meeting them and listening to them play, and my friend, Jeff, used to play and sing 1000 Candles 1000 Cranes often.
Ahh, thank you for uploading this! I was at a folk festival in New Jersey last weekend when I heard two people over on one side of the room playing and singing this song. When they finished, I asked them what it was called, and when I got home on Sunday night, I immediately looked it up on iTunes. I spent two hours on Monday determining the lyrics and writing them down - in order. Tuesday, I found the chords and strumming patterns. I've listened to the song at least fifty times in three days. :P
All RIGHT! I've been waiting to find more Small Potatoes on YouTube. I try to catch them live whenever I can, and am never disappointed. Thank you so much for posting these wonderful songs.
Oh hey. I saw them last Saturday night (April 12) but I just realized I saw them the night before this was filmed... in El Dorado, KS. If you ever get the chance, that place has awesome atmosphere! It's like a cave... the Iron Horse. It was a great show... it always is! They'll be at Winfield this year, too.
IMHO, this is one of the best written songs in the last 40 years... Saw them in a house concert in Tampa on Super Bowl Sunday, and they were incredible. Buy their CDs! They are super-nice people too...
Masterful songwriting and performing. I have visited Hiroshima, and 1000 Cranes 1000 candles reflects the very eerie and spirtual feeling that hangs over the place. It cannot be described except by going there, but this song immediately brought the feeling back to me.
