I don't know your culture but in the united states (at least before the recession) people would spend a great deal of money on useless pursuits. Wehther it was mudding, buying jewelry or hot rods (or lowriders sound systems etc. ) what have you. America is a very material culture. People fill their lives (their empty space) with stuff to give it meaning. It can be a bad thing but its all they know...

@throbule, I was just curious. I meant no offense. I'm familiar with conflict diamonds (and precious metals). I agree totally with your position on ranting on subjects I find distasteful. Many a drunken night I have spent on here only to wonder the next day why someone was sending me argumentative messages. Bling, could be considered a fad (fashion) and yes bad taste in it is spreading through out the world. I don't wear jewelry. (Except a watch and its stainless). The best of life is free :)
