The EU has all the institutions of a real state in place eg.currency (Euro),Central Bank,Justice Ministry (Eurojust),Police (Europol),their own Court,EU Parliament and un-elected Commission.
The only thing missing are ... THE CITIZENS of this "state" !
The EU is the world's first "democratic" institution where the ONLY directly-elected body ( the EU Parliament ) has NO POWER TO LEGISLATE !
VOTE in the European elections 2009 and save freedom & democracy in Europe !

Not sure about there being a party. Odds are that the other 26 will go ahead without us in some post-Lisbon arrangement not unlike the Lisbon Treaty. And Ireland, deprived of much of its influence, will have to travel in the slower EU lane. So much for Gerry Adams and his talk of Ireland "re-negotiating" the Lisbon Treaty.
Some of the "No" voters may then realise their vote was not such a good idea after all. By then, Ireland will have lost its Commissioner under the terms of the Nice Treaty

There'll be no repeat of the Lisbon vote if it was rejected. The government only got away with it after the first Nice treaty referendum because of massive apathy on the Yes side. There'll be no such apathy this time so they won't try it again. So keep yer knickers on...

Ultra vires treaties
Consent will also be invalidated if it was induced by the fraudulent conduct of another party, or by the direct or indirect "corruption" of its representative by another party to the treaty. Coercion of either a representative, or the state itself through the threat or use of force, if used to obtain the consent of that state to a treaty, will invalidate that consent.
No government representative can sign authority over to a foreign power!
