  • buenisimoo !

  • this video was ahead of its time in the way it was editted

  • Quiero ser franco: esta versión y la de Nina Hagen soy muy especiales, muy bellas y bien elaboradas... es mi forma de apreciarlas.

  • yea, iv heard the bowie origional and i hate it, bauhaus did way better. sorry,

  • I am a hardcore Bowie fan, but Bauhaus made this track their own.Once you hear this, there's no going back to the original. Interestingly, Bowie-file Scott Weiland nicked Murphy's look and the idea for the video for Velvet Revolver's Slither vid.

  • This is not Bauhaus!!!

  • @brankometalac In what way are you saying this? Because it certainly is Bauhaus performing. Murphy is a huge Bowie fan and clearly modelled himself to some degree on Bowie (not taking anything away from him; Peter Murphy is a phenomenon). If they think enough of the song to cover it, who are we to argue with them? Anyway, covers often make me cringe, but I've always loved this (and I'm an hugely insane Bowie fanatic).

  • I am a very very big bowie fan and I can honestly say this is just as good as the original.

  • a lot of power in this!

  • good cover bowie version is better

  • GREAT version, have to say though that I prefer Bowie's vocals for this song, this guy sounds like one of the smurfs !

  • i am a bowie freak but like this version better. jmo

  • I remember when this came out and telling a friend how good it was. I got a nose in the air reply that I should listen to the original (as if I hadn't) as it was the real thing and therefore better. How wrong.

  • Like a leper messiah Love this version! Bauhaus 4-ever!

  • To be perfectly honest, this is crap.

It lacks originality as it's too close to the original.

The singers voice sucks and he tries to phrase like the original.

All in all unoriginal and an utter failure.

    Viva Bowie!

  • @LittleGodOfThunder The cover is amazing.

    Your Trolling Lacks Originality

  • @HspRiders Sorry for being negative. Just think the original is vastly better.

  • @LittleGodOfThunder That is a fact. There's no point in saying a cover is better than the original, since there'd be no such thing as the cover is the original wasn't composed!

    You're opinion is respected:)

  • @LittleGodOfThunder Seriously??????1!!! I am 47 ///// Yeah it is a cover BUT I BELEVE IT ONE OF THE BEST COVERS OF ANY BAND EVER....HUGE FAN OF BOTH BANDS

  • @LittleGodOfThunder hahahahaha! 'The singer's voice sucks'. Err... no. That's Pete Murphy by the way but you've probably never heard of him.

  • @warlock242 For all I know he may call himself Rapunzel. It sucks no matter what.

  • @LittleGodOfThunder little mind too..WTF...Murphys voice is unique

  • David Bowie is Great! but also this cover from Bauhaus... Ohhh their music is simply great <3... why theres no good music anymore!!!!??!!!??... Long live to old times! were the best even if i didnt had the luck to live them xDD....

  • creepy

  • Possibly the Best Cover Ever?

  • Amazing song, amazing cover, nuff said.

  • I say it's got nothing on Bowie's original, but Bauhaus did it amazingly because Bauhaus did everything amazingly.

  • what the fuck.....let that guy out of the cage.

  • David once told me that this was a better version than the original, i listened then agreed and i think Bowie said the same.

  • @whitenoiseization yeah i'm sure he told you himself. lol.

  • For me ,bauhaus version is way better.

  • I'm a huge Bowie (glam period) fan but this is amazing

  • this is supposed to be as good or better than Bowie's version? HAHAHA, what?! Maybe I'm not versed in the pop culture inclinations of these eras, but this feels like the retarded version of Ziggy Stardust.

  • I am a hardcore david bowie fan and I love this cover. Cant say i like it more than the original you see it belongs to an album that is well godlike for me but hell its equally good one of the best covers out there i can see the respect the band had for bowie. Really really great cover i am thrilled.

  • @Afereth I can COMPLETELY agree with this... 100%

  • I had the wonderful privilege to see mr Murphy play this live last night.

    He is a wonderful performer.

  • SO wish I was a goth in the crowd

  • what chord is being played at :29?

it sounds different than bowie's version.

  • Bauhaus is David Bowie's love child :)

  • Peter, to see you with your head thrown back and your BREATHTAKING pale blue eyes half-closed while your SUCCULENT/RIPE RED LIPS are parted in COMPLETE ECSTASY and MOANING NON-STOP while my WORSHIPPING MOUTH is MAKING LOVE to every INCH of your GOD-LIKE self and taking you to a PLEASURE LAND you didn't even know "existed"!!!...

  • I'm honestly shocked anyone would like this version better than Bowie's. It's lacking in almost every aspect to Bowie's. Ronson's guitar playing alone trashes this slap dashed version. Nevermind how (unusually) weak Peter Murphy's vocals are by comparison.

  • @JLWing77

The great Bowie actually admits to liking this version more than his. Sorry to burst your bubble of wanting a little rant :)

  • @LANBritain1 I don't want a rant. I'm not a troll. I don't love Bauhaus, but I always liked Peter Murphy's voice. I really want an explanation of why someone would like this version better.

Can you reference me where Bowie said he liked this version better? Just curious.

  • @JLWing77

^o^ I personally like this version better because it's a lot catchier , has more rhythm to it , Peter's voice has more feeling in it , the whole band puts more feeling to it , and it just sounds....more alive. ^^

  • What a fantastic cover!!!

  • They did a great cover, thats for sure.

  • Comment removed

  • great

  • i love it....

  • Bowie's original was always a bit limp, especially the studio version, Mick Ronson should've played his guitar more like this, while Dave was checking his eye-liner or being a serious artist or whatever the fuck!

  • @1964chrissie dave will cry if he sees this comment

  • @1964chrissie Seriously, dude? Ronson's guitar is way more interesting than this copy. And you're putting down eyeliner? Did you look at the singer? This band wouldn't be in existence if Bowie hadn't put his eyeliner on...not to mention that fishnet shirt!

  • @sarahnaomiwagner Mick should've played louder.......seriously, dudette!

  • @1964chrissie Yeah, alright, I'll give you that!

  • @1964chrissie yeah Bowie's studio version is a bit bland. Live is much better. Real men wear Eye Liner by the way :)

  • @gav240z I agree......! ;-)

  • Peter Murphy was and will always be a genius. One of the most gifted vocalists ever. Incredible, just incredible......

  • Wow......he did a pretty good damn job!

  • This video & tune are like a blunt force head trauma inflicted by Bauhaus and you know you're lurching away with a slight amount of dain bramage, if you're one of the lucky ones?!! Light years better than Bowie's original, can listen to it over and over again 'til my ears bleed and then some!!

  • Daniel Ash playing much heavier guitar than the original makes this FTW.

  • Genius

  • Sounds more like Bowie, than he does....................Fantastic, well done Pete, great cover!!

  • i'd like to be in that cage with peter

  • The voice much like the bowie!

    Great version!

  • No props for Daniel Ash?

  • @virgilmiller1 why?? bauhaus are one entity. who the fuck are you ???

  • GREAT and scuzzy snarling hot vibes

  • first saw this on beavis and butthead

  • I'd rather this version than bowie's version. Although bowie is one of my heroes

  • I love this,

  • love the music.

  • Truly brilliant cover!

  • anyone know what pedals their guitarist is using?

i can never get his tone.

  • Peter Murphy is just.. sex..:P

  • I love it. :)

  • 精彩.....—流.....勁^^

  • I love both Bowie and Bauhaus and this is incredible!! And I want my head pushed down by Peter Murphy.

  • this could actualy be better than the original

  • Good cover because simply amazing original song......easy.....

  • You cant forget this masterpiece.

  • It's interesting how a lot of Bowie fans -- and allegedly even the Man himself -- prefer the Bauhaus version to the original. When I took some time to think about it, I realized that (for me at least) it's all about the swagger that Bauhaus bring to the song via the heavy rhythm and guitar.

The lyrics are about a band peaking as it falls apart: so it's close to what was happening at the time in Bauhaus -- so they were _living_ the song, not just covering it...

    That's the key ingredient.

  • @bleuroo A nice one from u! I'd like just 2 add just this: the secret is "Bauhaus" made it more both punky and intense, from any point of view - whether it's' bout rhythm, vocal or music itself.

  • Bowie is gold

  • My dad just introduced me to this band form his youth, i was skeptical at first, but now Bauhaus is one of my fave bands..

  • Bowie is my god, but dang, this is a fantastic cover.

  • Great cover! check out rawcuss TV fantasies on youtube

  • As a person who acknowledges and has great respect for Bowie's achievements but is only a fan of select latter-day songs who also happens to go nuts over anything Peter Murphy, I can pretty much assure you all my opinion would be rather biased. I'm still peeved that I missed Murphy's performance last June at this small venue here in New York (the Delancey) that normally houses indie punk showcases and local fetish goth parties. All good stuff but we're talkin' Peter Murphy.

  • Great cover! AFI's cover of this however...ehhh....just watch it and see what I mean.

  • was he handsome!!

  • I love so much David Bowie, but really is better than original! ♥

  • I love thisone more than David Bowie!!

  • there was a time when people listened to Bauhaus, Killing Joke, Siouxsie & the Banshees and "Goth" as a genre didnt exist.

  • I love David Bowie but these guys actually outdo him! Well done, Bauhaus!

  • How dare they cover bowie!!!!! Blasphemy!!!!!!!

  • Not a fan, at alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.

  • I LOVE Bowie but this is fantastic.

  • it is merely a terrific cover version. wouldnta happened if not for dave.

  • Our heroes of the 80's. God I miss those days!

  • ALM0ST AS G00D AS THE 0RIGINAL // CL0SE !!

    = THERE A LIFE VERSI0N ??

  • I don't know if this is the only cover of Bowie better than the original, but I have a feeling you're right...

I know a lot of music, and the energy behind this is an earthquake, and I can't feel it anywhere else.

  • I love this song!

  • i'm confused, well i know generally, but just a lil in my earlier comment, so i'll xplain myself before asked or reprimanded by killin joke fans, the two vids i have just double checked, to prove to myself that i'm not inventing stuff for the singer desperate to be david bowie are as follows-- darryl hall in armchair in look and appearance for the vid -Hall and Oates "she's gone2 and not killing joke but i mean pychodelic furs with "pretty in pink" my apologies, check the hall &oates one ,funny

  • does anyone know what bowie thoyught of this band, they were pioneers in their own right i know, is there a interview anywhere. ohh ohh, oh yeah whats that band that has the lead singer who really wants to be a bowie clone, killing joke pops into my head, but dont think its them, oh oh and i saw a very early hall and oates promo t'other day before they looked all hillbilly quiffs and mullets and in it sitting on the sofa darryl hall so wants to be bowie in his mannerisms

  • Oh, yeah!

  • Amazing song, the images remember the shows of the powerful The Misfits band.

  • If there's any man more beautiful than a young Peter Murphy, I don't know of him. And that voice...............oh that beautiful voice.

  • @Andygirl1974 Agreed. At his peak he was one of the most mesmerizing frontmen in all of rock.

  • @Andygirl1974 Other than Ziggy himself, I agree.

  • crei k esta cancion se desmadraria pero no esta bien vergas y afi les copio el video en the days of phoenix jaja

  • not as good as the real suck

  • @minecraft98000 this sucks

    with it sucks

  • Im crazy in Bauhaus))

  • love this song

  • Bowie'sve

  • great! better than the original !

  • Comment removed

  • NOT better than the original. Sorry, just my opinion. But this version is damn good! I liked it when I first heard it, and I still like it a lot.

  • Probably the ONLY Bowie cover better styled than the original.

  • @SeanRaleighSalesRep I disagree, I think Nirvanas version of The Man Who Sold The World was better tbh!

  • @the77punks An excellent cover of an excellent song, but I prefer this cover I suppose because I prefer the original song. More guitar crunching, I suppose! But as stated, two great covers, two great songs!

  • @SeanRaleighSalesRep

I disagree actually. I've heard lots of covers that are equal or even better than Bowie's originals.

  • @Assimandelini such as...?

  • @Lokjutus

Rozz Williams have done Time and Do Do much better than bowie and I also liked that Langley School thingie, when they made Space Oddity. Nirvana's "man who sold the world" cover is overrated though.

  • @SeanRaleighSalesRep The version of The man who sold the world of nirvana is better than the original too u.u

  • @Poletina2010 not really nirvana is amazing though but no

  • @Poletina2010 omg are we all wired to the same music?

  • This is..just..wow! Best cover ever!!!!

  • wow. I was not expecting this because Bowie is a god, and although I fucking love these guys, I did not think this would be better than the original.

  • yeah,it weird, back then we had these dark bands, some were very theatrical, and they were just sorta scary, and, well, out on the west coast we had the Misfits, and then you had this shock-a-billy thing, then came the term "deathrock"...im lucky to have seen alot of them, and we just went to shows...sometimes it was all fast punk bands, another would have slower, english -type bands, and then a scary show...it got REAL clickish...

  • Better then the original, just sayin'.

  • this is ok, i guess :))

  • There was a reason all this music was called "underground" rock... because most of the pubs they originally performed in were dank cellars and basement pubs where the misfits and punks hung out.... it was thick in drug culture and breaking away from the more "pop" versions or concepts of what music was....

  • Huge Bowie Fan- before clicking on this video i assumed i'd totally prefer Bowies version! I do, although this isn't half bad! fair do's to it!

  • A conversation with some old friends this week lead me to come & have a look at this again - can't believe it's had 1.5M+ hits! I'm in this video-about 1min 11 on someone's shoulders wearing a Johnson shirt with a big Japanese sun on the back, dancing badly (nothing's changed in the last 29 years then). Was recorded in the basement of the Roundhouse in London on a hot afternoon in August 82. They did 2 live songs (covers) before recording it - Third Uncle & Rose Garden Funeral of Sores. Fun day,

  • Big bowie fan. Big Murphy fan - this is a killer track!

  • Before I saw them I thought that it was David Bowie's voice. Peter Murphy does this song well. Love it.

  • I gotta say this a week ago I was originally looking youtube for a Live Bowie original performance of this song but couldn't find it so I stumbled upon Bauhaus never heard of before. To make a long story short I got hooked on the style of music and lyrics, went out and bought a Peter Murphy CD - Ninth (last time I bought a CD in over 10 years) and ordered Go Away White album online should be here next week! I wish I would of knew of their appearances in Pittsburgh this past decade... *sigh*:/

  • Grande som, e belas memorias de um grande concerto.

A graet sound, nice concert, memories of a time.

  • watch?v=eB08Fhtdhu0

  • @0rujos you SON OF A BITCH !!!

  • I wish I had been around back in the days of Bauhaus. I love their music, and you just don't find the same these days. I did get to see them live in 2006, though, and that was freakin amazing.

  • the sad part is that there will never, EVER, be another major band like this in the world, EVER

  • peter murphy is god

  • GReat sound quality - thanks for that man ;)

I must admit that Murphy's voice brings something really special and different to the song

  • nothing like a Bauhaus Cover!

  • I remmber bumping into Pete once around this kinda time on Albany Street (near Gt Portland St) & it was a jaw dropping moment for my friend & I. It was when I worked @The Batcave (so very pre/early goth movement). My friend & I (who found fame with another band) were jumping up & down hitting 1 another tp make sure we'd just walked past Mister Murphy/Maxell ad (LOL-you have to be a certain age to get the reference) we couldn't believe it. Oh those were the glory days/daze. Thanks for sharing x

  • is the singing still Bowie, coz it sounds exactly the same

  • @RetroFarmer69 No, that's Peter Murphy singing.

  • @carrinallen My brother using my Youtube account, he needs to get his own.

  • mine ears feel like theyre known this song forever :)

  • masterpiece

  • 142 dislikes? Really? This shit is awesome. Ok, ok. Normally I do not like covers either but this one is damn good. *shrug*

  • Fantastic cover! i wouldn't say it is better then the original, but brilliant none the less!

  • the best cover ever!

  • Peter Murphy looks like the sex in this, and so does the guitarist in the net shirt.

When the heck will the androgynous/dandy/ambiguous musician/artist thing come back into style dude? Am I gonna have to wait until my whole head is gray and then find some guy in his 20s or 30s, -fifty years from now when this all comes back into style again-, who I'll let use me for my money??!!

  • @jrmetmoi We are all going to pretend your comment was never made.

  • @Thecuregalore94 I don't give a damn. As long as somebody else wakes me when the androgynous/dandy/ambiguous musician/artist thing comes back in style so that I can grab one of those hot beauties! You do what YOU wanna do.....

  • @jrmetmoi Will do. Just try and keep publicising your insanity to a minimum.

  • @Thecuregalore94 Uhhhh....no?? Not unless I'm trying to reply and talk on YOUR personal page! LOL Because then yes, I will more than try my hardest to never say anything to you on there. But I'll say whatever I want to here, thank you very much.

  • @jrmetmoi HERP DE DERP ok. Perhaps MY comment will have MORE effect is I use unnecessary CAPITAL lettering to try and be SMUG?

  • @Thecuregalore94 Herp de derp?? What the fff....??? Why are you using a French person's last name? Look I was never talking to you in the first instance, so why bother trying to shut me up in the last instance? Uhh buh-bye, buh-bye!

  • @jrmetmoi Now then DERP are you seriously so out of touch you don't recognise the herp/derp meme? And i bothered to shut up you because someone needs to tell you that the 80's androgynous gay scene is long dead and gone. Now's the era of dubstep, get used to it love.

  • Comment removed

  • @Thecuregalore94 I believe you are horribly misinformed. Dubstep is nothing but a bunch of 3 year olds who got into daddy's sample collection and now think they can make beats. Fucking pathetic and everybody that likes it is a tasteless asshole. Drum and Bass has been her for years (since before either of us were born) and is still ripping it up on a nightly basis. When you've had enough of being a retard, google concord dawn and .

listen to some real artists at work.

  • Comment removed

  • @Thecuregalore94 how aut youbo go somewhere else trollfag, maybe go out from under your bridge and stop hiding behind your computer to make yourself seem all big. Yes dubstep sometimes good, but when it gets publicised by someone like you, it takes a big fall. Maybe you should take break and listen to something that's not made on a synthesizer =P

  • @TranquilisedMorgan HERP DE DERP. Allow me to tell you my favourite bands: The Cure, Joy Division, The Smiths, The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel. Now then DERP, let's check if there's a synthesiser in any music by The Smiths, The Black Dahlia Murder or Whitechapel...Oh I see, NONE. Because the fact of it is...Synth was fun in 1983...For me it's either dubstep or death metal.

  • @Thecuregalore94 In other words, for you it's either crap or shite.

  • @ladycplum Wrong. In actual words, dubstep is the soothing beat of computer-enhanced wobbles, sometimes infused with a sample from a film/television show, along with perhaps the back track of a trance mix or even a grime/rap piece. As for the death metal, a series of challenging arpeggios, raw, visceral vocals, drumming of intense rhythmic demand, a throbbing bass alternately plucked at high speed and the possible use of a breakdown, although these are more commonplace within deathcore pieces.

  • It is a fantastic cover!

  • 142 people obviously have a handicap and need to be treated gingerly.

  • @SIRA4LIFE oh, sorry :)

  • @SIRA4LIFE thanks bro
