wow...her hand moves so fast 0_o! and why do people have to critique so much? every one thinks they're such an expert, sometimes it's just nice to sit back and appreciate the hard work someone did to play a really hard piece. you don't always need to find something you think it lacks so you can sound like some musical asshole who thinks they're really clever. because that's what you end up looking like.
In my opinion, this performance misses the right emotional "charge". It begins quite sparse, the pianist plays it too subtle. The first chord and the accompanying tones in the left hand of this Chopin's Etude should surprise and overwhelm. Similar for the rest. It lacks strength. The only reason, why the pianist is able to hide the lack of feeling, is the usage of almost whole keyboard, ie. how Chopin wrote it. For me, it sounds like a piece of a love romance, not a piece called "Revolutionary".

@TPQ1980 Professional means by definition ''your job/your profession'', the odds that he/she doesn't go to school and already has a job is already slim. And the ''fact'' that he/she is a professional, yet still doesn't know how to write it after 1000s of times (because its his job you know) doesn't look very plausible to me.
@bertrandui I did not confess myself to be a great pianist like her, I stopped taking regular lessons since four years ago. However, lately I have been practicing the old songs a few hours everyday due to summer vacation and having nothing to do. If I get a camera, I'd record it and upload it on youtube too!
@FroggerbobT but my comment was replied to the person who seemed to already have some piano backgrounds? I've heard of this saying that it takes 10000 hours to master any discipline, 8000 hours to be pretty good, 6000 hours to be merely good and 4000 hours to be a instrument teacher. If one practices in the right way whole-heartedly and single mindedly, one may improve quite quickly in a few years (12 hours*365 days *2 years = 8760 hours!). just something interesting I want to share.
@FroggerbobT but then one may ask what's the point of mastering a discipline in such a way if it is not one's profession? and there are so many people who can play piano well all in the world. It'd take dedication, a high certainty of direction and love of the discipline for one to do so.

Having said that, the only thing I would say would be that the dotted rhythms in the right hand of the opening were a little less dotted than they should have been, but I stand by what I said earlier.
What are people TALKING about? 'Too soft', 'too polite'. I think she plays with a lot more raw passion than many pianists I hear play this. It may be her age, but I think her immaturity lends this piece great fire, and I just loved it. I don't go for chicks but her music makes her incredibly sexy.
Aya was 19 years old at this video recording and shows a astonishing good technique and musical talent. She plays some how a bit immature, but will grow with her age. Good luck Aya. You're doing good. Can I follow your future career some how? I would like to.
Lo siento he escuchado muchas interpretaciones de Chopin de esta misma canción y la tocas demasiado suave, le falta sentimiento y sobretodo fuerza. No esta mal como tocas pero no pones todo el corazón en ello.
Too soft?!? HA! She can't weigh 50 kgs! I don't think the vid does her justice! THAT, my friends, is one KILLER piece of music on every joint, bone, and finger nail from the back to the tip of the fingers! I don't believe Chopin himself played it very much passionately either noting his lack of power. Aya, you have done marvelously on one of the THE toughest pieces in piano literature! I loved the rolled first inversion "G" chord in measure 55! PERFECTLY DONE! :)
Quite a decent performance. But I wouldn't say it's very remarkable to play this at the age of 19. I know many pianists who could do the same and some who could do it younger, but that's not the point. Age doesn't matter as long as the performance is good. Far from all gifted children become great pianists. But I enjoyed this performance. Thank you.
@boneaoctavian You're a fool. Look harder. Some of the best interpretations of his work are done by asians, such as Valentina Igoshina, Bunin, and Yundi Li. Please read a book or two, because a 19 year old stoner knows more about classical piano than you do, you racist.

@97edlin can u not hear it to do with the recording?! and how is that anger but too soft ?! they dont appears in the same time, but anyway either way will make people like your comment :) but do make up your mind which side r u going for
@weix0206 well, ive listen this song so many times and i know this song have been played in a different way.. so it depends on the pianist.. i have to admit that i cant play this song cause im only a 15 year old kid and only in grade5 but, thats just my opinion.. as long as theres feeling to it, then its fine..
@nathanlolo99 oh ive heard that kind of story bout chopin before.. but im not sure..haha, it seems that i forgot the whole story why he wrote this song..
@lauraCJthistle3 That brings up a good point. The emotion behind the piece is definitely vital to ANY piece. With this one, the emotion is hardly audible, while the piece itself will be interpreted differently to each person's opinion. Chopin, having written this piece, is the ony one who knew what the piece really should sound like. But that doesn't mean that we can't try to understand the mindset of the great musician.
@WalrusFever Yeah you're definitely right. Everyone interprets music differently. When I'm learning a piece I tend to find myself trying to mimic what emotion the composer was going for when he/she composed it, but that's definitely up to the performer to do or not do.
She's a very good technical player, but she didn't capture the emotion behind this piece. Chopin composed this étude in reaction to the revolt in Warsaw; it should be played with enough passion to match the emotions behind such a dramatic event. When I play this étude, I don't really play it in a "pretty" way, because that wasn't Chopin's focus when he was composing it.

@mangerlentement I am an Asian kid about 11 yrs old, but if you have patience in your child, he or she might do wonderfully. I'm on Sonatas right now, and I went through books fast since my mom had patience in me.
@ImmortalSpecies : Yes, also, (and this isn't a diss or a sexist remark) it's hard for girls to play pieces like these and have the same power as men do. It's just because their arms are anatomically smaller. I think she did a great job.
@eellloashlayy Yes, she did a great job! It is amazing that a mortal human being can play such a piece at all and then there are those comments who's writers are absolutely incapable of such a performance but they have to brable something. Disgusting!!! This girl is so precious one can hardly put it into words.
@tasteism See, thats the thing. There are literally thousands of pianists out there of this caliber and higher thus making these stunning performances to the untrained ear a regular occurrence especially in countries such as China, Russia and America.
@Beanioski I know, and it's true but even then, to me it is still a miracle. You know, it's like with roses, there are millions of them but each single one of them is adorable. The multitude does not diminish the value of the single item. I'm a lousy hobby pianist and I know how hard it is to play the piano. :(
@hou32hou Of course not! Revolutionary Etude technically requires accurate left hand scales. But Flight of the Bumblebee requires hands play like playing a drum......moving really fast = = I can play the Revolutionary Etude but not Flight of the Bumblebee LOL!!!
me encantas! tienes una grandisima habilidad , te felicito, yo estoy en 5º de grado medio o profesional , tengo 16 años y me lo han puesto, y " tengo miedo " XD
Best verison so far.. bout to look for more, this girl has a great interpretation, her playing is beautiful, so is the piano, the piece, and her as well =)

@ImmortalSpecies It's original and with feeling.

Ach, I wish it sounded like this when I played it. My hands are too small though, I always end up muddling the left hand :/ Well played!

やっぱり何度聴いてもあやさんのこの演奏が一番好き。
失恋して絶望感に浸ってる時に出会ったこの演奏がどれだけ助けてくれたことか。
いつか機会があれば生演奏で聴いてみたい。

the funny part is that she made an incredible performance and at the end like 1 person was applauding... and that's it .. :/

this is harder than flight of the bumble bee man
hou32hou 1 year ago
@hou32hou Of course not! Revolutionary Etude technically requires accurate left hand scales. But Flight of the Bumblebee requires hands play like playing a drum......moving really fast = = I can play the Revolutionary Etude but not Flight of the Bumblebee LOL!!!
