The best live band I ever got a chance to see at CBGBs. I went there religiously for 2.5 years and this show was certainly a highlight. My friend and I were next to the stage and it was like a private show within a crowded club, great memories!
This concert was my first real date . . . . it was at the Royal Oak Music Theater in Royal Oak, Mich., in 1990. I went with a guy named Tony; I was about 19 years old. I thought he was , the bees knees, but it ended before it ever took off. I learned that he died in 2009, at 40 years old, and every time I hear this song, I get a little misty. RIP Tony.
Again, and I say this only to get a laugh and not to be unkind, I would LOVE to get my hands on whatever drug propelled Richard Butler to dance in this fashion, and also dressed in a clown's blouse. I love the Psychedelic Furs and would never disrespect a formative band from my youth; I do however feel the need to say that the last time I saw them that Richard was dressed like a soccer dad and I was most disappointed :-(
Remembering the first time I heard this song must of been 82 I ran to the RECORD store and bought the ALBUM, Where is a time machine when you need one, Thank God for You Tube LOL
@demon3070 Calm down, you inbred fuck. I'm getting annoyed with the threats and the insults. What are you, twelve? Messaging me, threatening to kill me, over one sentence. You're pathetic. Insulting my family won't get you anywhere either, because unlike you, words on the internet can't hurt me.
Its a shame that music today doesn't sound as incredible as this. Pretty sad when a 15 year old (myself) has to go this far back in time to find amazing music to listen to...
@johnmendezdesign Yeah, I'm glad that my parents introduced me to them, along with some other great bands from that era. I've seen them twice so far :) They're pretty amazing live.
@15LeanaK It's up to the radio stations to bring it back which I've noticed lately they have been but only on the oldies channels. I think it's pretty amazing how my 17 yrs. old daughter loves 80's music too. I know the 80's music it's on it's way back. Something always good comes back.
PLEASE will everyone stop talking about how music sucks now and how (place band name here) was the last great group with talent. it doesn't matter what song i look up... it could be ICE ICE BABY and some toolbag says how that was the end of real talent..... oh, and while i am ranting.... STOP COMMENTING ON THE PEOPLE DISLIKING THE VIDEO. we've heard it a billion times before: OOPS. 300 PEOPLE SLIPPED AND HIT DISLIKE BY MISTAKE. LOLOLOL. it's awful. (this song is great though, btw)
Let me in on this because In addition to that, I wish people would stop comparing (insert video they're watching) with Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber EVERY time. If people really don't like those other groups, stop bringing them up. I don't rant about them because I haven't heard them. You don't have to listen to modern pop music or Top 40 music or the radio at all if you don't like it.
Don't feel bad if you think you're old cause i'm so jealous you got to live in the 80's and I absolutely feel bad for all the kids that listen to todays pathetic excuse for music
Amen! I missed much of the 80s by letting turmoil rule my life. It took me almost to the mew millennium to rediscover the music that I have come to describe as that which I can't live very long without hearing. This song is as good a representative of those 10 years of elevation in the spirit of music as I can come up with. Whatever mood I find myself in, I usually fall back to an 80s song to describe it or represent it. If only that could be what music isn't now...

soooo many commments. wow. this band brings back some very strong memories for me as well. 16 years old, and in love with bands, bands, bands. and these guys were my girlfriend and myselfs favorite to listen to together.
I caught them when they played here in my hometown of Austin in April at the legendary Antone's Night Club. What a show! Richard still has all of his same moves - like when he crosses his legs and slowly goes down and slowly comes back up. He can still shake those hips too! I was VERY lucky to be the 1st one in line and I got a primo spot right in the front like I did the year before. He was INCHES away from me & I was lucky enough to score the setlist with Pretty In Pink on it. :-)
It took me more than four weeks after hearing this on Being Human to figure out who did this song and what the title is. It haunted me til I heard it on the radio and I called the station for the info.
I'm so bummed I missed them here in Seattle. I keep missing all the 80s groups when they come to town. It's funny, I'm rediscovering so many of these great songs from when I was in high school. Even though this song come out when I graduated, it just seems like yesterday...
nothing will ever compare 2 da music of da 80's & 90's, nothing! its sad how music has just lost its quality & there's no more lyrics that mean something or melodic, beautiful sounds & talented groups or bands singing them! what would i give to return to da best decade in music! i miss it so much it hurts...!!
Glad to have lived in these times. The music then had such an impact. Proof? Look, now will people be saying "Wow, what a decade the 2000's were for music!" in another 20 years? I think not.
@Radioheader I am not sure, but they have the play list on syfy.com you can purchase the music directly there on an itunes download. I cant remember what episode the song was on, but they list the artist and song titles right there under Being Humans music.
This song reminds me of love lost, forever and ever and ever, my true love died in 94 but we were madly in love back in '84 and this song and the Furs take me back to another day, another person, another life time...............
This song reminds me of love lost, forever and ever and ever, my true love died in 94 but we were madly in love back in '84 and this song and the Furs take me back to another day, another person, another life. time...............
@mtnyc89 The chords are very easy. A, D and E. I play it on my Martin that I had since '84 when I was 15. Haha. It's just one of those simple but genius songs.
you all are missing the point of this song, its about losing the one person you truly loved and never being able to get them back! basically true heartbreak, not about growing up...
The anthem of an era were innocense and love still prevailed in music and in our lives. A decade were we still dared to dream, and hoped for better and brighter things to come. How I wish I could go back, and relive does times, and days.
HHMMM I think I was about 9 years old when this was out...I liked it then and it still sounds good to me..Call me old, strange whatever..I love the eighties!!! They don't make music or videos worth a damned anymore... So whoever doesn't like it can jump in the river! ;)
I'm gonna let all of you in on a little secret, '84 was the best year ever. I was 18 and a senior in high school and all was good with the world. I'm 45 now and I hurt myself yawning the other day...
@bigdsears --- LMAO!!! I'm 44 and I feel your pain. Yawning can be dangerous. And yes, 1984 was fantastic! I would trade an entire year of my life if I could go back and relive just a week in the 80's again. Good times.
@thedudeobbides Ah yeah, the good old days. John Hughes movies and classic cheeze rock. Now I gotta choose between rap and kiddie pop or shemale stuff
We were all young once and this song really captures that. Although , every time I hear this song I think of huge hair on chicks. I mean you could have held up a bridge with the volume of hairspray used in the 80's
Awesome! Richard Butler has one of the most distinct voices in music. I was shopping in IKEA in Atlanta, GA a few weeks ago and this song and "Love My Way" was playing in IKEA's music mix and I thought, "IKEA is so cooooool" to play the Psychedelic Furs!! You will never hear this song while shopping in Target.
most of you haven't got a clue what this is about. it's not about vans, or schnapps, or the mindless drivel you like to engage in.
it's about who we are, at our core, and about the damage some of us sustain and it is about how we are still here, though we feel like we were destroyed, twisted into something ugly, we were only buried. now that may not have been exactly what mr. butler meant, but it is how i've always taken it, and probably not far off.
@0softmonkey0 I dont think YOU understand. There isn't any one meaning to any song. Music evokes different emotions and memories in everyone. I understand what you are saying about what the song means, but to spankula123, this song reminds him of a certain point when he was really enjoying life in a much simpler time and that's ok. Growing up in the 80's, a lot of the music reminds me of different memories in my life good and bad. That's what great music does.
@lustar3232 that may well be true, that i don't understand what the artist truly meant, but it in no way contradicts my position that the song was not about vans and girls and getting high and any number of superfluous things; that is NOT who they were. those of you who insist it is are just wrong, though you will raise your flag defending your erroneous position, feeling strength in numbers, the shallow masses, who it is so much easier to be. it offends those few of us who see ...
This reminds me of being 16 and skipping class to go to the beach, pegged Benetton pants, Vans, walking around town after everything closed, surf wax, all the chicks I was too shy to ask out but they probably would have gone out with me, spending 20 minutes doing hair, smoking cigs, drinking Schnapps and beer, bonfires and babes.
@spankula123 esprit, and those crazy hair cuts, we used to hide under this train tracks and the train would roar by and make loads of noise. we drank peppermint schnapps, and sing valley girl and go to adam ant concerts
@spankula123 i get u...i was a furs fan. i had a waiste length rat tail on the right behind my left ear. omg the hair..... short and spiky and the new wave clothes. my jean jacket (the puffy 80s kind) was covered with those band buttons. 200 of which were adam ant. ran out of room and had 10 ony rat tail. at work i had to completely cover my with my cap. at night i dressed up like adam ant to watch tv with my sis. it is funny older people really loved the way i look. miss it
@mylesford --- every time I smell someone smoking cloves it always reminds me of the 80's. My ex and her girlfriends would smoke them and drink those very same California Coolers. Still don't understood why they came in a 4-pk though... lol
incredible i just upload this video amazing just went back 25 five years in a flash bringing back memories driving my MG true the french coast no worries no problems only happynes 80,s fan
I agree, this song is so good it's almost unbearable.
Don't dis too hard on today's artists though, until you know just how hard it is to create music this good. Artists put heart and soul into the music quality, because they could count on selling a buttload of RECORDS. What can today's artists count on? That you will pirate their work faster than they can even get it out. The vintage artists, when interviewed now, say exactly this. "We could never do what we did in today's world"
@befuturenow You know why today's artists suck because the are lazy. Back then artists like this had to bust their asses to get a hit song. Now with all this computer and autotune bullshit any idiot can have a hit song.
this was the best decade for music! the bands were superbly talented (they made magic with those synthesizers!), the videos were cheesy but not vulgar showing butts, paper $ & bling, (which im sick & tired of watching that in mostly every video now)! the sounds where melodic, magical, had meaning & talk about creativity! the 80's is & will ALWAYS b the best musical decade: I MISS IT EVERY DAY! there was nothing else like them n never will b... :(
@Mexigonzo The go to 50 cent. How dare you diss at The Psychedelic Furs? You must listening to today's lame songs right? What a joke you turned out to be. Listening to today's music which is nothing but the same. Music is something that you love. It comes from the heart. Rap is not music, it is an expression, as what African-Americans would tell us. So don't be telling us Hail Mary to rap.
@Mexigonzo wtf?? the psychedelic furs ARE NOT rappers! dude u are WAY off... seriously, listen to 50 cent and the psychedelic furs and compare & contrast them... THEY SOUND NOTHING AND I MEAN NOTHING ALIKE. and there's nothing wrong with this band.
Excellent CD, excellent band~! Blows away the crap today!

About a quarter in, it's started to grow on me.
Near the end, I got ready to press "Replay"

I'm gonna let all of you in on a little secret, '84 was the best year ever. I was 18 and a senior in high school and all was good with the world. I'm 45 now and I hurt myself yawning the other day...

@bigdsears --- LMAO!!! I'm 44 and I feel your pain. Yawning can be dangerous. And yes, 1984 was fantastic! I would trade an entire year of my life if I could go back and relive just a week in the 80's again. Good times.

I just can't get enough of this song. It's so beautiful, full of love and emotion. Thats what todays music is missing.

most of you haven't got a clue what this is about. it's not about vans, or schnapps, or the mindless drivel you like to engage in.
it's about who we are, at our core, and about the damage some of us sustain and it is about how we are still here, though we feel like we were destroyed, twisted into something ugly, we were only buried. now that may not have been exactly what mr. butler meant, but it is how i've always taken it, and probably not far off.
0softmonkey0 1 year ago
@0softmonkey0 I dont think YOU understand. There isn't any one meaning to any song. Music evokes different emotions and memories in everyone. I understand what you are saying about what the song means, but to spankula123, this song reminds him of a certain point when he was really enjoying life in a much simpler time and that's ok. Growing up in the 80's, a lot of the music reminds me of different memories in my life good and bad. That's what great music does.
lustar3232 1 year ago 3
@lustar3232 that may well be true, that i don't understand what the artist truly meant, but it in no way contradicts my position that the song was not about vans and girls and getting high and any number of superfluous things; that is NOT who they were. those of you who insist it is are just wrong, though you will raise your flag defending your erroneous position, feeling strength in numbers, the shallow masses, who it is so much easier to be. it offends those few of us who see ...

This reminds me of being 16 and skipping class to go to the beach, pegged Benetton pants, Vans, walking around town after everything closed, surf wax, all the chicks I was too shy to ask out but they probably would have gone out with me, spending 20 minutes doing hair, smoking cigs, drinking Schnapps and beer, bonfires and babes.
spankula123 1 year ago 74
@spankula123 esprit, and those crazy hair cuts, we used to hide under this train tracks and the train would roar by and make loads of noise. we drank peppermint schnapps, and sing valley girl and go to adam ant concerts

@mylesford --- every time I smell someone smoking cloves it always reminds me of the 80's. My ex and her girlfriends would smoke them and drink those very same California Coolers. Still don't understood why they came in a 4-pk though... lol

This was my favorite song off my favorite album when I was a high school senior. It's still near to my heart.
genetrujillo 1 year ago
I agree, this song is so good it's almost unbearable.
Don't dis too hard on today's artists though, until you know just how hard it is to create music this good. Artists put heart and soul into the music quality, because they could count on selling a buttload of RECORDS. What can today's artists count on? That you will pirate their work faster than they can even get it out. The vintage artists, when interviewed now, say exactly this. "We could never do what we did in today's world"
befuturenow 1 year ago

Mexigonzo 1 year ago
@Mexigonzo The go to 50 cent. How dare you diss at The Psychedelic Furs? You must listening to today's lame songs right? What a joke you turned out to be. Listening to today's music which is nothing but the same. Music is something that you love. It comes from the heart. Rap is not music, it is an expression, as what African-Americans would tell us. So don't be telling us Hail Mary to rap.
Supersweetguy 1 year ago
@Mexigonzo the furs arent rappers, 50 cent is a one hit wonder. and no one wonders what happened to him.
