Well if you understood the history of the black church, you would know that black churches were created because of segregation. The black church is a carry over from those times. The problem with most white people is they don't think about the black church as being valid by definition as all other ethnic churches. The issue is that whites tend to believe that black churches are supposed to be extention the white church with no validity of its own.

Holding on to organizations which continue to promote those seperatist concepts doesn't promote progress. Well if you understood the history of the black church, you would know that black churches were created because of segregation. The black church is a carry over from those times. The problem with most white people is they don't think about the black church as being valid by definition as all other ethnic churches. The issue is that whites tend to believe that black churches are supposed to be extention the white church with no validity of its own.

What was racist about this speach? He made some cultural observations and gave a message about cultural relativism. This was no more offensive than a lecture about cultural norms. These weren't stereotypes. I'm not offended by his emulation of my clapping. Some people speak with accents, some wear different clothes or eat different foods. To deny the differnce is only to secure ignorance of how complex the world and people are. Different does not equal Deficient or Superior.

Wright's message is really one of openness: He excludes no one. People who find his comments about the whites on the deck of the slave ship and the blacks in its belly praying to a different God do not understand the perspective of racial minorities--particularly those who have been oppressed. Some things he says are whacked-out conspiracy theories and these are the things Obama finds appalling, as do I. Hopefully enough Americans are thoughtful enough to look at ALL sides of every issue.

This ranks as one of the BEST speeches I have ever listened to. Wright is a most intelligent and perceptive man-----one who has lived the talk, and knows it intimately.
For Obama to turn his back on Wright seems to me disengenuous, and politically damaging to those who actually know what Wright stands for.
Obama is pandering to the white vote: it might backfire. Better to continue to respect Wright and simply disagree with some of his views.
