Very nice comments. We did aim to try and provide info and a relaxed atmosphere. Certainly doing the podcasts has helped that. And no, Logan won't feel threatened by us. :D
Bey Logan didn't do one for HKL...you guys probably won't match up to Bey Logan, but he is the gold standard for this format.
Haven't listened beyond this part yet, but you already are miles better than the "Will Johnson + A. N. Other" doing the 'remastered' Big Boss commentary.
Oh, Melvin Wong wasn't formally trained (i.e. Chinese Opera school), but he do did a hatful of differing martial arts.
Actually, these guys measure up to Bey Logan reasonably well. Neither Bey nor these fellows were there when the film was made, so they can only corral available production info, personal observations, bits of trivia, and assorted name drops. Just like Bey! Only we don't have to pay to listen.
Seriously, though, failing scholarly authors providing commentary tracks (which is unlikely thanks to Bey's easy-to-achieve lock on the practice), I have no problem with fans doing this kind of thing AS LONG AS they're sincere, as well-researched as they possibly can be, and well spoken (accents notwithstanding ;) ). As a Hong Kong film freak, I didn't learn much from this, but I still enjoyed listening and would recommend it to newbies. Nice work.
Once you've done enough of these, you should consider making them available as podcasts (not unlike RiffTrax). I listen to DVD commentaries at work, and since I've seen the movies already, I only need the audio, so the viewer stays hidden from prying bosses. Having something like this as one big track for my iPod would be rather handy, especially for movies I'm less familiar with just yet.
In fact Bey as bin on the set's of films the first on being Prodigal Son also he's bin in some films & done a commentary on it. also he done commentaries with people Purple Storm he did with Purple Storm, Iron Monkey with Donnie Yen ect
but i must say Bey know more than some people who are in the film.
yehhh tis movie rocks

Wise observations, coolestmovies. We're at that very level you describe and shouldn't logically be anywhere else based on the persons we are.
