I was detained for a month until the head doctor let me go, thats how it works here for threatening suicide or harm others. The good part is it sure changed my attitude about life, freedom is the most precious thing when its taken away yet most of us don't think about it until it's gone. Anyways I don't drink anymore and that cured me, I'm ok now.
Once the patient has admitted that he is a threat to himself or others he can be held until cleared by the psychiatrist. It is not illegal to hold him until this happens.
NO! this video is so wrong! the nurse in the video could be sued for illegal detention if she forces the patient to stay against his will! though this patient is at suicidal risk directed to others, the nurse must ask her immediate supervisor with regards to her action if the patient refuses to be admitted or confined.
@nurseXYZ101 yes it is legal in Ohio a doctor can put a 24-72 medcial hold on the patient. This is do to several lawsuits form families of psych patients that have killed themnselves after they left AMA, now if there is even a hint of SI, HI, or the pt is Altered mental status, they are under the hospitals esp the doctors care no if and 's or bits.
I met people with similar complaints... in the psych ward of course. What's odd tho is that when we feel genuinely that we need to be locked up, they lock us up, but when we feel genuinely that we are ready to go, they don't let us go!
