Everyone loves BoA, but let's face it, she's not known for her vocal prowess. She fell off the block because vocal ability became important in the industry, and she chose to focus her activities in a country where vocal ability isn't so important. MayDoni can sing R&B like nobody's business, and BoA is a pop princess.

People with actually amazing voices aren't at the top of the music industry making the good money; people like Beni, Crystal Kay, etc. They are amazing, but even being at the top of the Oricon on occasion doesn't bring them the same level of success as the less talented women mentioned above. In Japan, you don't get past the idols.
