NOT a scam!!!! I've met this woman, since she was my aunt's neighbor for quite a few years. Very upbeat and nice person, who doesn't deserve to lose her house. She DOES say that she had to refinance her home when she first lost her husband... I'm guessing for funeral and other death related bills. Who can blame her for THAT? Come on people, have a heart! I'm shocked at people like @puctbridge! You've left a ton of comments on this video. Really, go pick on someone else.
Something just seems very fishy about this whole thing... I mean 19 years of equity should not have resulted in a refinanced home with a monthly note that's still $730 dollars a month
@puctbridge I really don't think YOU get it. Utah is not a cheap place to live. Moving out of state is also not cheap.
You can't buy a mobile home in Utah for that money. Her house currently would probably appraise at least 100-120 k. Sorry if that seems unreasonable to you, but it is our reality.
With regard to you 19 year analogy. How do you know the mortgage was almost paid after 19 years. The house could have been refinanced multiple times in that 19 years for whatever reason. Have a HEART
At that monthly payment rate on a refinanced 30 year contract your paying 262 thousand and that's not including finance fees associated with a loan... Even if it's a 15 year contract your paying 131 thousand before fees... I live in TX so maybe I'm jaded but in Houston that home would be worth roughly 40K cash (tops)... And if you didn't mind moving towards the out skirts of the city you could have a brand new2 story home built for 131k
People are looking at the same home I'm looking at current? The thing can't be worth more then 25-30 grand so how have you lived there 19 years and not paid it off? also from what she claims his woman should also be getting widows benefits and social security disability which combined should reach around $1000 dollars and that should be enough for house payment and electric & water assuming that they moderate their use of their utilities... The daughter works so that should cover living expens
It's tragic but unless we take money from the %1 what can be done but be grateful for the charity of generous members of her community and others who hear her story?
Why is the mortgage payment so high? Would it be possible to refinance and bring the payment down by quite a lot? After 19 years a huge chunk of it should be paid down.
@TOMATUMADRE Her daughter had two jobs, lost one and now is trying to find another. I'm suggesting that a local business owner offer her a well paying job that would replace two lower paying minimum wage jobs. That way she could have one job to support the family and have enough time at night or in the morning to attend those College Courses she mentioned.
Any CEO's/Small Business Owners want to step up and offer the daughter a decent paying job? Seems like she's not asking for a handout.. more a Hand Up!
I don't watch KSL, but did they do a better Plea for Help video that you could use instead of this one?
Not to knock the good intentioned first video.. but a professional reporter/videographer I'm sure would bring in more donations.. and that's the goal.
Its tough all over, seriously is, Im living pay check to paycheck as it is..BEST of luck to you tho. I know how it feels, Ive had to live in my car, if you never have, stfu b/c you dont know what its feels like and how worthless you feel. Like I said, hope she figures things out.
Check out Vocational Rehabilitation. I don't know if you have heard about it. It helps out with paying for school and assistive technology (paid for my glasses, meds, counseling and doctor visits) for people with disabilities. Send me a message if you need more information on the program. It's state run, so there's no gimmicks.
Man, I'm barely making it as it is, but I wish I was able to toss you a few bucks. Heart wrenching to be sure. Been homeless before, for about two years, off and on, so I can tell you, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
Come payday I too plan to help Mandi - I sincerely hope 2012 is a better year for Her and Her Daughter than the years prior - very touching story Bless You Mandi
My in-Laws sent me a check for xmas. You need it more than me, I'll be depositing it tomorrow. Merry Christmas. :)
Your daughter will easily be able to qualify for a Full Pell grant at S.L.C.C. That is what I'm using to get back on my feet. Though I don't believe it covers the Nursing Assistant course.
