  • rest in pease and god bless you in heaven Hironori Ohtsuka Sensei

  • I trained in Wado Ryu for many years (my sensei was trained by Suzuki Sensei).before moving to Shotokan when I moved location (no Wado there). Shotokan has many wonderful elements but it focuses on technique and 'technical' tournament fighting criteria and has become soft. Wado is superior in its focus on the real art of fighting without a preoccupation on winning superfluous 'tournament points. Please know that I have full respect for Shotokan (the head of Shotokan stayed in my home).

  • @uagqp Funakoshi?

  • Legendary.....

  • not good enough in my standards

  • @jobowtackmasterx Then you have no idea who you are looking at, he is legendary and very old here.

  • Shindo-yoshin ryu.. he was a grandmaster before funakoshi taught him karate. it wasnt Shodakan till later, and they had a falling out over sparring's importance. He also founded wado with the understanding of jujutsu. wado is a rapid striking style that is torquish. the "blending of the styles". I hail from the Suzuki line of Wado. Ohtsuka felt you needed sparring to learn impact, timing.. distance.. Funakoshi said if your doing your kata right, you are sparring every time you do a form.

  • A true master!

    R.I.P Sensei Ohtsuka.

  • please correct me if im wrong but didnt the founder of Wado-ryu originally study a koryu kejutsu ryu? I am told that is why his karate system is all about tai-sabaki, not confronting force head on or using any kind of static blocking movements. i am a jujutsu practitioner and these techniques are fascinating. :-)

  • @EishinRyu Yes,Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu

  • He was a master of yoshin ryu jujutsu before tyraining karate.

  • @EishinRyu IN YOSHIN RYU ,IT FOUNDER WAS A STUDENT OF SEVERAL KENJUTSU STYLES...AND JUJUTSU SKOOLS....

TAISABAKI IS THE FOUNDATION WHICH TO BUILD UMARMED AND ARMED COMBAT....

BASICALLY ALL JUJUTSUAND SWORD SKOOL HAVE COMMON ANCESTOR SKOOL AND COMMON MAIN TEACHINGS....

  • @EishinRyu in Wado we have many of the jujitsu defense techniques, like knife-defense :) I love Wado Ryu :D

  • Hironori Ohtsuka was a genuis!!

    he far surpassed his teachers.

    way ahead of his time..

  • God Bless him.A real master and not commercial one

  • I have been in a Wado Ryu dojo for a couple weeks now. And I show a lot of respect for this style of karate, and Master Otsuka. His views on life and karate is truly inspiring.

WADO RYU - WAY OF PEACE

  • he was the greatest master to ever live, I am trying to farther the consept that he started, by assimilating other techniecs from other styles.

  • have u ever seen a katana that strikies at full speed???

  • Katanas don't strike, men do.

  • Excellent upload. Such a great Yakusoku Kumite video. All I´ve ever had from this showdown was some pictures in my sensei´s house. Very nice.. thanks a lot.

  • what would happen if the sword striked faster than the Sensei moved?

  • With the perfect Maai and Hyoshi of Sensei?Nothing... :-)

  • That was great. Anyone know the year-he looks a bit fitter than in some of the other postings.

  • An excellent post. His moves are so smooth they appear to be almost effortless. The gentleman appearing with him, holding the sword, is his son, Mr. Jiro, who is now called "Master Ohtsuka", and is the current Master of Wado Karate. The quote at the end of the clip typify the original Master Ohtsuka's attitude about karate and life. This attitude goes beyond the combat aspect of the art, and why I hold Master Ohtsuka and Wado in such high regard.
