anybody else thinking of the jaws theme while watching snakes feed? i know i am: dun uh.... dun uh.... dun uh.. dun uh.. dun uh, dun uh dun uh dun uh DUN UH DUN UH ~DUN-A-DA~
@bigdylan200 I used to play a video game called World of Warcraft a lot. The name Leeroy Jenkins was popularized by that game. You could easily youtube it.
@rsnukexiii1 Newborns grow at a faster rate and need the nutrition more than an adult would. When Leeroy was a baby, I would feed him 2 pinkies each feeding. Each feeding was about 10-14days apart. Switching to fuzzies is all about how big your snake gets. When you notice they are easily swallowing pinkies you can move up to fuzzies. Snakes can generally swallow prey that is 1.5x their thickness.
@GShockKiiD You shouldnt handle them for the rest of the day (after you have fed him/her) as i encourages them to regurgetate and they just generally dont like it.
@Acekillercard I laughed when I saw this. Orange corns are practically the only kinds I can find in Memphis. I was lucky to find a Candy Cane and a black anerythristic corn on Craigslist. They're beautiful.
I have a cornsnake maybe a little bit smaller where can I find live pinky mice in Illinois??? I feed it frozen but it never takes it I always have to feed it by grabbing her and putting the pinky face to face with her and poke her in the face with her pinky and then she takes it but she doesn't do it on her own
@Acekillercard If you go to a reptile pet shop, they will usually carry different morphs of snakes. The big chain pet stores do not have as much variety (not to mention, they are usually more expensive).
Awesome snake feeding video! :) You have a gorgious snake! I have 2 corn snakes myself, but they were both raised on frozen thaw, which is nice since feeding them live ones ain't cheap! I am assuming that you breed mice?
@winterbeauty1991 I buy the feeder mice at a local pet store. I don't breed them because I only have two snakes and do not think they'd be able to consume the mice fast enough.
@remas14 Thanks. With every feed, I'm always checking to make sure. Not as worried with little fuzzies and hoppers, but definitely will be more aware with full grown mice.
@Mople77 They have more of an appetite when they are growing. I used to feed him 2 pinkies every feed, but have slowed down. I don't really want to power feed him as I prefer him to be smaller.
@Mople77 Forgot to add, if your snake can easily take one down and is still pretty active afterwards, you can try feeding him another. But dont overfeed because they can get obese too.
@skittleserros It's the circle of life, and you know it really isn't any different feeding pre-killed mice, both live and pre-killed died or will die.
@evozakira Mice size is all about how big your snake is. Snakes can swallow 1.5x the thickness of their body. Also, if you notice that your snake is easily swallowing pinkies.. then it may be time to move up to fuzzies.
@JoeldeBunchastu It's actually pretty interesting. I've always thought that being bred in pet stores as feeder mice... 99% of these mice have never seen a snake before. So naturally they are inquisitive and get closer to the snake... but of course, the snake goes pow!
But then, even watching snake footage in the wild on discovery channel, wild mice still stare a snake in the face. I guess if a mice would ever survive a first encounter with a snake, they'd be able to let the other mice know. ;p
u stupid mother fuker y a lil baby mouse it hasent even opened it eyes yet its berly discoviring the world but no u have to give it to a snake y not put a dead one at least!
you guys are dicks.. what did that mouse do to you... at least let it live longer.. you could of got its mother and killed that instead the mother causes more problems to you than that mouse.. i wish i was their to kick your ass. you sick bitch
@yang4evr thank you and one more thing i have a corn thats about 2 months old and everytime i reach into the enclosure to grab him he slithers away very scared...not to say i dont grab his ass but im doing it the right way but he still freaks out like crazy every time
@jarheadjourneys Not sure how they are at 2 months, I got mine when he was 5 months. But the more you handle them, the less threatened they feel. But make sure to use slow hand movements.. dont jerk your hand too fast to try to grab him, he'll freak out. You can put your hand out slowly open palm to let him know you're not a predator. Good luck ;)
small live baby mice cant do much harm to a snake but watch out for adult mice there not always that nice and i have seen lots of hurt snakes owner 13 years
@VividiMagiczz some snakes wont eat dead mice but if they do its much better and safer the dead not only wont hurt your snake but you wont have to worry about mice with mites worms parasites and other things that can harm your snake and i would start fuzzies healthier
hey my corn snake is always burrowing under the aspen bedding did/ does youre corn snake do that and if u know how do i stop it? also when did ur corn snake start constricting mine is a baby and doesnt know how to.
Corn snakes love to burrow, mine does as well. They will hide (either by burrowing or under an actual hide) then come out to play in the late afternoon.
Re: constricting, it takes time for them to build up their grappling skill it seems. I also feed my snakes live pinkies to help trigger their constricting instincts. It took about 4-5 feedings (feeding once a week) before Leeroy started. Also, if the food is too small, they will simply swallow it instead of constricting.
that was cool bro, I have a baby corn snake too and I have a question. I just got my corn and its feeding on pinkies twice a week. When can I start feeding it live fuzzies? I think my snake's length is the same as yours. Check my corn snake video to see if he's the same size if any doubt thanks
why does everyone pick up the mice by the tail? it seems to be what your supposed to do, but i dont see the point, i just pick them up and let them sit in my hand
@perpexel If you pick up a mouse by grabbing at it, you might injure it. Their organs are not as protected as ours. Less chance of hurting them if you use the tail or let them crawl onto your hand.
It just depends. They can usually take in about 1.5x their stomach size (at it's largest part). You can also see how easily he is taking in the pinkies. If it looks like pinkies are going down easily at the mouth, try a small fuzzy.
Start with a corn snake. They are much more reserved, less flighty and fussy. I have a Black Mexican Kingsnake as well as my corn... the kingsnake musks a lot and is always fussy. The corn is awesome, he's always chill:)
They may not have them.. they cater more towards dogs, cats and fish, but you never know.. you can ask. Try looking for a small petshop... call them, if they have snakes... they most likely will sell pinkies, fuzzies, hoppers, and mice.
